Chapter 1143: The Spirit Queens
The twenty abominations shuddered, facing the four great spirits of the world. Earth itself was vast, far larger than any other, and her power resembled just that. A tall figure for a fairy, wingless but magically floating in the air thanks to Zephyr's grace.
The earth spirit queen looked nothing like her peers, muscular, her skin mud-brown in color, and her hair long and as black as the lightless night, but her eyes burned with a red, menacing heat. She flew through the air, pulled her arm back, the lean muscles beneath her skin contorted like steel, and her fist was drilled into the stomach of one of the abominations.
Her fist, albeit small, pushed the monster's organs back, cracked its spine, which that thing had three of, and then sent it flying with a powerful shock wave. The stone fairy was called The Mother Earth, Gaia, and she carries the weight of the whole world in her small body.
She then lifted her hand, conjuring a long stone spear and a large round shield. With a single swing, she shattered another abomination in two and growled, a large, mischievous smile on her face. "I chose who gets to step on me and who gets to be inside me. Your bugs aren't allowed either." Her eyes shifted to Zephyr, "You, on the other hand, with pleasure…no, everyone else in the world is welcome."
The whole world's population lived on Mother Earth, walked on her, built their houses on her, and dug their way into her depths, building ancient cities in the underdarks of her bowels.
"Shut your mouth and swing your weapon!" A long, slender woman of orange skin, burning fire for hair, and eyes so bright they were almost blinding, the fire spirit flew past Gaia and swung her hand, sending a wave of hellish flames that scorched two of the abominations.
This fairy also looked strange, besides her orange skin and burning hair, she didn't have wings either. Instead, she flew with jets of fire coming out of her feet like a rocket. Her speed alone was terrifying, but when she ordered her flames to come out, the whole sky got painted red.
While fire looked to be rare in nature, the bowels of the earth were a raging inferno with heat and fire enough to sunder the whole surface. And strangely enough… the fire spirit was Gaia's daughter. It just happened so long ago that the two forgot their mother-daughter relationship.
The fire spirit was temperamental, quickly agitated, and often hasty, but all of her actions ended with one sure thing: ask and death. One of the abominations tried to attack her, and he succeeded, slashing her across the chest. But the fairy's flames slowly started consuming him from his claws.
"I am fire… I am avarice… I am Death." She turned into a corporeal storm of fire, mixed with the infernal tornado that Zephyr made, and attacked every ugly abomination in her path. She was called Nar, the spirit queen of fire, and she could never be satiated.
Out of all the spirits, Nar was the strangest in a sense, she was obsessed, obsessed with Zephyr. And calling her an obsessed person was an understatement; she was an addict, an addict to Zephyr's winds.
While almost nothing could satiate Nar's hunger, Zephyr's winds made her feel better, much better. Her flames burned hotter, turning almost blue, and her whole being was elevated much, much higher, sometimes reaching realms far beyond what a spirit queen should dream of.
Zephyr didn't find her hungry stares amusing, and neither her burning eyes to be comforting and so she avoided her as much as she could.
And as Nar was burning the abominations left and right, a deep sigh rang from the depths of the sea and a massive wave that's almost a hundred meters tall emerged. The two spirits tried to avoid it but ended up washed ashore.
"Oi! Rilyeh, put your damnable waves away!" Nar roared at her, and the mother earth took the chance to wash the blood from her long, beautiful, black hair.
"You're burning the shore…" Rilyeh pointed behind them at the massive chunks of charred land left when Nar dragged Zephyr's fire tornado. And as she emerged from the water, she looked the strangest of them all.
She looked human and was the size of one with pale skin, long blue hair, and a blue bikini that covered her modest chest. Her lower half was that of a great fish; she looked almost identical to the mermaids, but she lacked their gills, for she didn't need them to breathe. And like the other queens, she didn't have wings.
And unlike the others, she wasn't that energetic at all and looked at them with a sad, tired, and uninterested gaze. She and Nar never talked much or seen each other, in fact, they didn't meet once in the past century. But Gaia… She and the water spirit queen were close; in fact, Rilyeh only slept by Gaia's side and only with her patting her back.
To Rilyeh, Gaia was like a mother who didn't give birth to her, and so filled the gap in Gaia's heart that Nar left. Which made Nar and Rilyeh's relationship worse.
As if frustrated by her emotionless and calm face, an abomination rushed at her with burning eyes. Only for Rilyeh to open her mouth wide, inhumanely wide, and swallow him whole like a snake. The other abominations could hear him drown, they could listen to his muffled screams as they grew distant and faded away in her bowels.
Rilyeh even challenged Nar with her boundless hunger.
So…why are all of those mighty spirits with enough power to easily kill rank 11 abominations following the wind spirit, who was supposed to be the weakest of them all? The reason was simple: she wasn't the weakest. In fact, she was now facing the six rank 12 abominations on her own in the sky.
The abominations themselves couldn't understand where her power was coming from? The more they attacked, the more their actions seemed futile. All until they combined their attack and blasted with enough force to rip the skin out of her flesh.
The abominations leader laughed, sending one last attack at her, "Protectors of this world! Fall to the will of our father!"
But his attack suddenly faded, absorbed by Zephyr's lungs. He looked stunned and petrified, that was enough eldritch magic to kill ten gods, and she still stood there.
Zephyr giggled, "Sadly for you… Eldritch magic already runs in my blood."
As she lifted her hands, her body burned with cursed winds, divine winds, and… a strange eldritch storm. "Father already courted one of your kind."
Zephyrus Anemoi Enlil of Mei, her grandmother, was the great mother of all spirit Mei. Her father was Focalor, the evil Djinn of destructive wind, who found himself a wife in a stray abomination that he captured at the edge of the elemental plane of wind.
The abomination stared at her with a horrified face, "You're….you're half-abominable!!"
Zephyr joined her fists together and lifted them up, her half side black with curses and right side blindingly bright with holy magic, and her wings burned with a horrifying black radiance.
"You shouldn't have dared taint my domain." She dropped her hands down and erased the six abominations in a single explosion of wind. Soon, the abominations' souls were trying to fly out of the world and return to their father Nyra like the souls of Mortals do when they die. But Zephyr caught her with her wings and crushed them.
"Your kind aren't allowed in my world, and those who dare come shall be sent to my father's embrace." She looked at the parted sea with an indifferent face. "He knows how to make your kind suffer."
