The Dreamer's POV

Chapter 286: A Clash Of Hammers

"Huu..."

I gripped my scaly blades tightly as I looked up ahead, awaiting.

'I have you where I want you.' It was my turn. I jumped, aura flowing from within me and encompassing my skin. It was like time stopped in that moment, and this was the final phase in this battle.

A thought lingered in my mind, I felt that if I died once more, I wouldn't be able to awaken in another dream sequence, which I thought was strange, but the thought did make me tense, and much more eager to end this as quickly as I could.

I had to do it now... and fast.

[Time remaining to defeat The Gluttonized Sentry: 4 minutes]

The large ugly man didn't anticipate my jump, but he had an answer to it. Seeing my ascension, he turned the hammer from being upright and overhead to the side to strike at my head.

This move complicated things a little, as my plan relied on him throwing down the hammer, but before that, driving my blades through his guts.

Instead, I had to block the heavy blow with my blades, which sent me hurling to the side, almost flinging across the air. I found my balance quickly and landed evenly on the hard purple ground.

There was a small vibration on where I landed, and that little tinging was my cue to look up.

The armoured sentry stormed at me with aura flaring over his armour. He zoomed quickly and closed on me. He was right in front of me when he turned the hammer back, building momentum, and some of the aura around his body streamed to the massive hammer.

The hammer grew larger, but not in the material portion of it, no, the aura morphed into an extended portion of the massive thing, appearing about thrice its original size.

It was massive, and brimming with so much aura. I was certain that this was one of his special moves. He twisted and then swung, as if letting the hammer go.

There was no way I could dodge this, it was too massive, and the swing came by much too fast. Had grand teleportation been active, I could have teleported away.

Before I could react, I saw the broad heinous smile on his face. He knew certainly that he had won.

However, I proved him wrong. A loud clang rang out, and most of all, I was alive, and more than that, I believed that I had turned the tide of the battle.

In my hands, impending the arrival of the hammer was a hammer of equal proportion.

Yes, in my hands were the grey and antique hammer of the forger.

[The Forger's Hammer: Equipped]

The sentry was startled by this, his eyes were opened wide, and he instinctively backstepped.

This was my chance, and I took it firmly. I stepped the ground hard as I swung the mighty forger's hammer.

The sentry clumsily held up his hammer in response. His blocked mine, but not without inflicting some harm. Though the force was reduced, my hammer struck his shoulder, shattering the armour on that area.

He either must not have felt the pain, that or he was good at hiding his pain as he didn't react. He jumped back, creating a distance between us.

The two of us stood for a few seconds maintaining a staring contest. It would have gone longer had there not been a limit for my time in this space. I needed to make the final blow fast and soon.

My energy was mostly recovered, and as I stood, so much of it overflowed from me and began streaming towards the hammer and over my skin.

My brows were furrowed, my face unforgiving and I made the steps to my opponent's doom. I was faster now since I had recovered most of my energy, and the sentry didn't anticipate that.

I thrust forward my hammer as one would do with a sword. The sentry held his standing, and the thick body of his hammer stopped mine, a loud clang rung afterwards sending a vibration through the glassy purple surface below.

I pulled my hammer, turning, and taking my hammer with an arc, and then again I struck strongly. The sentry held out the body of his hammer and yet again, the thickness of it stopped mine. However, he was pushed back, and the parts of the armour that covered his forearms cracked and broke away.

He grimaced at this and retreated. I followed, there was no way I was going to miss this opportunity. I made a long jump, and I was suddenly closer to him than I ever was then, our feet off the floor.

I was so close to him that I felt the heat that radiated from his body, and the stench that oozed.

His brows were up, his eyes open wide, and I saw fear in them. I felt delighted at this and I smiled as my hammer came descending on his large and bulbous head.

PLUSSHH!

The hammer burst through his skull, crushing it with a red splat. His body fell lifeless on the ground, and my feet landed rather gracefully.

I looked at the body in front of me. The sentry's head looked more like a paste now, a cream with delicious chewy bits buried inside it.

I smiled at the sight, and I was sure the smile I wore there was the most uncanny smile I had ever made.
