Chapter 257: Arin vs Vake (1/2)
"Hey, I have a question for you!"
Vake furrowed his brows.
Arin continued,
"You mentioned all the things you'll tell the King once you bring me to him. But let me ask you..."
"Can a dead man speak...?"
Vake furrowed his brows. "What do you mean?!"
Arin gripped his sword. He didn't say anything else.
Vake was already agitated, but Arin's silence made him even more agitated.
"AGHHHH!"
He instantly let out a battle cry.
Gripping his rapier, he blasted off the ground, heading straight for Arin.
Arin also began dashing towards him, his sword ready.
But before he could get to Vake...
WHOOSH!
"Huh?"
Instinctively, Arin moved his head backwards with speed.
WHIZZ!
A long Earth Spike instantly whizzed past his face, missing him by a few inches.
The Spike retreated, fixing itself back into the wall.
Arin glanced at the wall at his right. 'That Spike... It's actually a part of the wall. It just elongated.'
Since Vake was the one who created these walls, he could control them.
"Hahaha!" Vake laughed. "Surprised? That same thing can happen as many times as I want."
"Ugh, this guy's laughter irritates me," Seraphine said.
Arin remained focused, his eyes now glued to Vake.
'The fact that he can control his domain will be pretty tiring,' Arin thought. 'So, I have to kill him quickly.'
WHOOSH!
Arin quickly dashed towards Vake again, his speed increasing as he added Blood Energy to his feet.
He didn't want to use the Overheat Skill and the Aura Skill.
'I'll depend on my physical capabilities, Water Element and Chaos Element in this fight,' Arin thought.
Instantly, Water Spikes and Water Balls formed behind him.
WHOOSH!
With a whooshing sound, they raced towards Vake, splitting the air as they moved.
Vake, seeing the incoming Spikes, grinned.
Without wasting time, he slammed his right foot on the ground, and boulders were instantly formed in the air.
The boulders rushed towards the incoming Spikes.
BOOM!
Both attacks clashed in the air, cancelling each other.
Though, Arin was already in front of Vake.
SHING!
His sword moved towards Vake's head, but then...
RUMBLE! RUMBLE!
The ground beneath Arin's feet suddenly began shaking.
Arin's eyes widened slightly.
He was already losing balance, so he quickly leaped back, slightly avoiding Vake's rapier that was already outstretched for a thrust.
"Okay, Arin. Don't drag this fight for too long. Just end his life already," Seraphine said.
Arin and Vake stared at each other, none of them moving.
Arin was alert, in case any part of the wall would suddenly elongate into a long spike and head towards him.
"I know, Seraphine. I already have two plans," Arin said.
"Two? Not one? I like the sound of that," Seraphine said. "Though, I believe you don't even need half a plan to kill this guy."
"Don't talk like that, Seraphine. Underrating your enemy is the worst mistake you can ever make," Arin said.
This was part of the reason why he was even able to kill Seraphine. She underrated him.
"Moreover, it's always good to have a backup plan," Arin added.
"Yeah. I agree," Seraphine said.
Vake smirked as he gripped his rapier. "Why aren't you moving, boy? Just a moment ago, you were showcasing how fast you are. Or..."
His eyes widened with amusement. "Are you suddenly scared of me, boy?"
Arin stared at Vake weirdly. "The way you're talking... You sound like a pedo... How did you even become the Commander of the Sixth team?"
Vake furrowed his brows, his confusion evident. "P-pedo...? What's that?"
"Find out yourself."
Suddenly, Arin began dashing towards Vake again.
WHOOSH!
Arin's senses alerted him. An elongated Spike was heading for him from the right.
But he didn't even decrease his speed in the slightest.
As the Spike was about to hit his right rib, he suddenly jumped up and spun his body forward, doing a front flip.
TAP!
He landed on the ground in a crouched position, and then...
BOOM!
He shot off the ground, zooming towards Vake whose smirk was yet to disappear.
"AGHH! I WON'T LET YOU GET CLOSE TO ME!"
Vake roared as he clapped his hands.
Ten elongated Spikes instantly formed from the wall, five each at the left and right wall.
WHOOSH!
The Spikes moved speedily towards Arin from the left and right as they continued elongating, coming towards him from the front.
Now, it looked like he was the one dashing towards the Spikes.
Arin's eyes locked on the incoming Spikes as they got closer to him, and just before they could hit him...
BOOM! BOOM!
Two Water Pillars suddenly shot up in front of Arin where the Spikes just reached.
BAM!
The Water Pillars instantly shattered the Spikes.
Arin didn't stop.
He passed in between the two Water Pillars, continuing his dash towards Vake.
This was his Plan 1.
"Shit, he's fast," Vake muttered to himself as his expression turned sour.
Even though the distance between him and Arin was quite big, Arin was already closing that distance, and not at a small pace.
"Why do I feel like he's even faster than that?" Vake murmured.
Meanwhile, Arin continued initiating his first plan.
BOOM! BOOM!
Two Water Pillars formed again, but this time, they formed at the left and right side of Vake.
His eyes widened, startled a bit, and that was the exact reaction Arin wanted.
'Good. This proves that the Water Pillars will be an appropriate distraction,' Arin thought.
His plan was to distract Vake with Water Pillars, then attack while he was distracted.
Seraphine was about to ask Arin why he didn't just make the Water Pillars appear below Vake and hit him. But then, she knew that there must be a concrete reason why he was yet to do that.
BOOM!
Another Water Pillar shot out of the ground just beside Vake, startling him again.
He was already distracted by the Water Pillars and that made him take his eyes off Arin.
And well, that wasn't a smart thing to do...
Just as Vake averted his gaze from the Water Pillar to look at Arin again, his eyes widened.
"... Huh? Where did he go...?"
Suddenly, his instincts screamed at him as he heard a whooshing sound from his left side.
He could feel it... Something was heading towards his neck.
His instincts screamed at him to move.
But he couldn't.
'No... No... I won't die here... I WON'T DIE HERE!' Vake screamed in his mind.
In that same moment...
BOOM!
A pillar of earth shot out from the ground from Vake's left side.
BAM!
The pillar connected with Arin's outstretched hand that held his sword.
Arin furrowed his brows as he staggered backwards due to the force of the Earth Pillar.
But before he could even do anything else, Vake turned towards him, his expression fierce.
BOOM!
Without saying anything, he slammed his right foot on the ground, and then...
RUMBLE! CRACK!
Arin couldn't help but look at the ground, and that was when he saw it.
The ground was shaking, making him begin to lose balance.
But that was not all.
Cracks were forming on the ground and spreading out like cobwebs.
'Oh shit.'
Arin didn't waste even a single second. He instantly leaped back, avoiding the cracks that were forming on the ground.
Vake's eyes were sharp as he stared at Arin who was now standing quite a distance away from him.
"You think that's all...?" He muttered.
Arin furrowed his brows, but he wasn't confused for long as something began happening.
From the cracks that formed around Vake, humanoid figures began emerging.
Arin squinted his eyes. "Golems..."
"... But not ordinary ones," he added.
From the cracks, Golems began emerging.
They had black rocky skin, and their rock eyes were glowing a deep brown.
Ten of them emerged from the cracks, standing in front of Vake as if they were defending him.
"HAHAHAHA! YES! WITNESS THIS! MY ARMY OF GOLEMS!"
"He calls this an army?" Seraphine asked. "This guy is weak. How is he even a commander?"
Arin shook his head. "He's not weak, Seraphine. I'm just stronger than him. That's all."
Like Seraphine said, he didn't want to drag this fight any longer, so he decided to initiate his second and final plan.
He ignored all of Vake's rambling and inhaled deeply.
He raised his right hand in the air. "Let's try another one..."
Vake's expression changed. "Huh?"
Suddenly, he heard something zooming towards him from the left, and as soon as he turned to look at it...
BOOM!
The purple fireball collided with his chest, blasting him backwards and to the ground.
The fire began burning the remaining bits of shirt he had left, but he quickly activated a Spell, making rock form on his chest, and extinguishing the purple fire.
"What the hell?"
When cracks were forming on the ground, Arin had leaped back to avoid the cracks, but he had also activated the Chaotic Ember Spell and left a fireball there.
He was able to control the fireball to move a good distance away from Vake, and now, it has served its purpose.
It was Arin's turn to smirk.
With a cold voice, he whispered:
"Alright..."
And then.
SNAP!
He snapped his fingers.
"... Corruption..."
