The Female Lead Found My Suicide Note

Chapter 13 - Jealousy (1)

Jealousy (1)

We walked through the park in silence.

As I watched the back of the student council president deep in thought in front of me, I was trying to guess the relationship between Deren and her.

The student council president slowly came to a stop and began to speak.

“… I’ve never seen someone so beautiful before.”

It was a somewhat abrupt statement, but her expression was so serious that it was difficult to even question it.

As I looked at her, wondering what I should say.

The student council president continued speaking while pushing down the sword at her waist as if trying to hide it.

“Unlike someone rough and crude like me, she was delicate and beautiful.”

Then, as if not wanting to show her scarred hands, she hid them behind her back while looking at me.

Soon after, she turned her gaze away with an expressionless face and walked forward.

“… That’s why I became jealous. To the point where I wondered if I had become a fool.”

Judging by her expression and actions, it seems like she has no interest in me at all, but her words are the complete opposite, so it feels strange.

Therefore, thinking that I couldn’t make heads or tails of it, I nodded glumly.

She once again put on a serious expression and offered an apology.

“I apologize. Having lived as a knight for a long time, I’m not used to expressing emotions… If I made you uncomfortable, I apologize.”

Recalling Deren’s manner of speaking, I briefly replied.

“It’s fine.”

I answered in a tone as dry as possible, as if I didn’t care about others at all.

However, there must have been something different from how Deren actually spoke.

She looked at me with somewhat surprised eyes.

“… Pardon?”

Something seems to have gone wrong.

Realizing that my tone might have been too kind compared to Deren’s usual way of speaking,

I continued with the rudest tone possible.

“What are you staring at? Get your face out of my sight.”

Even as I said it, I realized it was too much.

As I was wondering how to salvage the situation,

“You seem to be in a very good mood today. I’m glad.”

The response was completely different from what I expected.

Wondering what on earth he usually did and said to elicit such a response, I nodded.

“By the way, Sir Deren. Have you seen the article that came out this morning?”

“Article?”

“Yes. It says a huge ruin has appeared near the Academy.”

At those words, I looked at her with full of bewilderment.

Considering it’s a massive ruin site, according to the original novel, it’s an element that only appears a month after Rumi sustains a severe injury.

I couldn’t understand why it had already appeared.

‘I’m not sure if it appeared earlier than expected or if there’s a difference in the time between when it appeared in the novel and when I heard about it due to Rumi receiving the information late.’

The important thing would be the fact that ‘ancient magic’ is sleeping inside that ruin site.

In the original work, it only described the Heaven God Cult taking it away, so I don’t know exactly what happens inside that ruin site.

However, knowing that the cult later gained immense power from the ancient magic they acquired there, I wanted to snatch it away by any means necessary.

‘So for now, it would be best to prioritize exploring the ruin site.’

While I was thinking about this,

Suddenly, a good idea crossed my mind.

‘Wait a minute, instead of going through all this trouble, can’t I just ask the head of the family to give me this place?’

Since they said they’d give a reward. It seems best to ask for the ownership rights to the ruin site.

I decided to at least ask, whether it works or not.

If it fails or they refuse, I steeled my resolve to sneak in and steal it if necessary.

Rumi blinked as she looked at the grade reports installed in each section of the hallway.

She already knew she would lose the first place to Deren, but seeing it in person gave her a strange feeling.

‘I don’t dislike it.’

Rather, seeing Deren’s name written as first place made her feel a bit better.

Because of this, she almost let her somewhat excited emotions show on her face, but while trying to hold it back and act as if nothing was wrong.

Suddenly, the woman she saw earlier came to mind.

‘By the way… who was that person from before?’

She was incomparably more elegant and beautiful than herself.

While absentmindedly pondering that if she were to bring her usual dreams to reality, wouldn’t it feel something like that.

The words she heard earlier brushed past her ears.

[If you dislike my fiancé so much, may I take him away for a moment?]

… Fiancé.

She had heard that engagements between nobles were a kind of contract tied to political matters.

She knew that engagement was just a contractual relationship far from rational affection.

Strangely enough, the woman’s behavior and voice made her think it wasn’t just a simple contractual relationship.

‘… Could she perhaps like Deren?’

Having spent a long time observing others’ reactions.

She was able to roughly grasp emotions even if they weren’t strongly expressed.

Thinking that without liking him, there’s no way such emotions would be shown, she wore a blank expression.

‘Certainly… they suit each other very well. No wonder she likes him.’

Just by existing, I’m a nuisance, and that lady is more useful than someone like me who’s good for nothing… Ah.

While thinking that the obvious is obvious.

Suddenly, a strange pain struck me as if someone was poking needles into my heart.

Unable to say anything due to the pain, I was pressing my chest when I heard voices from beside me.

“By the way, that Deren guy not only has an amazing family background, but he’s also a genius… Plus, he’s rich and handsome… Ah, life.”

“Honestly, the difference is so big that you don’t even feel jealous, right? It’s like looking at a different species from us.”

“Ah, I know what you mean.”

Words mixed with envy and praise for Deren.

While agreeing with those words and feeling the distance between Deren and myself growing even further.

I hear a conversation about myself from the side.

“Moreover… he even takes care of that commoner girl.”

“Oh, you mean Rumi? Isn’t he just keeping her around because she’s pretty and pitiful?”

“Well, I guess so?”

The reality of being insignificant and merely a commoner, unable to be placed on the same level.

Usually, I didn’t pay much attention to such things and ignored them.

Strangely, now these thoughts kept catching in my mind, over and over.

“……”

I know it’s a thought that doesn’t suit my station.

I also know that even having these thoughts is a nuisance to Deren.

Nevertheless, as these thoughts kept coming to mind, I buried my face in my hands.

‘I really am… trash.’

Maybe it’s right that I shouldn’t be happy, as my foster parents said.

As I was internally spewing self-hatred, disliking myself for being so selfish and willful.

I heard a commotion around me, much louder than before.

Curious, I glanced over to see the woman who had taken Deren away earlier bringing him back.

“The student council president and Deren? Weren’t they engaged?”

“I think so? But wow, they really do look good together.”

“I’m so envious, so envious.”

The whispers gradually grew louder, overwhelming my ears.

Normally, I would have covered my ears and fled to the classroom.

But strangely, instead of running away, a small irritation began to rise within me.

‘Ah.’

Why?

Why am I getting so annoyed over something so trivial?

Unable to understand my own emotions, I just silently glared at Deren and the student council president from the corner.

I sighed as I looked at my fiancé who had insisted on escorting me to the front of the classroom.

Not knowing her name until the very end made our conversation quite risky.

‘Still, I managed to get through it somehow…’

I suppose I should be thankful it ended without any issues.

I decided to find out the student council president’s name as soon as I got home, and turned my gaze away.

‘Looks like the grades are out.’

While I was feeling quite satisfied looking at my name written as 1st place on the grade report.

Someone nearby looks at me with eyes full of suspicion and brings up one question.

“Hey Deren. You… did you really solve the theory problems with your own ability?”

When I checked wondering who it was, I see Herdy Delia who achieved 3rd place in this test.

She raises questions to me as if demanding answers.

“Even being a hundred times generous, let’s say the first four problems were possible, but the last problem isn’t one that can be solved with just a few minutes of thinking. Don’t you think it’s strange that you went out after solving in just a few minutes a problem that takes at minimum several days, long cases several months to years?”

Honestly it wasn’t wrong.

Looking at how I solved and left in just 10 minutes a problem that was made so no one could solve it.

One would have no choice but to suspect I committed cheating to solve it.

Therefore her suspicion itself was rational but.

The problem would be that she shouted such things in the hallway where everyone was gathered.

Seeing attention suddenly gathering, I let out a sigh then spoke briefly to Delia.

“You’re advertising quite spectacularly that your head isn’t good… blockhead girl.”

At those words, Delia seemed to get worked up and rushed at me.
