Chapter 34: Chapter 33: Flash of Two Worlds
Chapter 33: Flash of Two Worlds
The multiverse. It wasn't just a theoretical concept anymore; it was a terrifying, exhilarating reality. And its first visitor? Jay Garrick, the Flash of Earth-2. My internal alarm bells were ringing. Not because of Jay himself, but because I knew who he really was. Or rather, who he was pretending to be.
"Jay Garrick. The OG Flash. Or, you know, the guy who's actually Zoom. This is going to be a fun tightrope walk. Gotta play along, gotta act impressed, gotta subtly look for inconsistencies. And definitely don't mention the helmet. Or the fact that he's a murderous speed demon." My internal monologue was a chaotic mix of fanboy excitement and profound wariness.
Jay Garrick, a man who exuded old-school heroism, arrived in a flash of blue lightning, warning us about Zoom, the evil speedster from Earth-2 who was sending metahumans through the breaches.
"The multiverse," Barry whispered, his eyes wide with a mixture of awe and confusion. "Other Earths. Other versions of us."
"It's a lot to take in, Barry," I said, putting a hand on his shoulder. "But it also means there's more out there than we ever imagined. More heroes. More villains. More… possibilities." I subtly observed Jay, looking for any tells, any subtle signs of deception. He seemed genuine, almost too genuine.
Jay explained his powers, his world, his fight against Zoom. He was a natural leader, and Barry immediately gravitated towards him, seeking guidance.
"We need to find a way to close these breaches," Caitlin said, her scientific mind already racing.
"And we need to find a way to track these Earth-2 metahumans," Cisco added. "Like, a multiversal scanner!"
"Cisco," I said, nudging him. "You're already halfway there. Remember those 'vibrations' you felt during the Particle Accelerator explosion? What if you could… focus on them? On the different frequencies? On the different dimensions? Like… a vibe."
Cisco looked at me, his eyes widening. "A vibe! Adam, you're a genius! That's it! I can feel them sometimes! Like a hum in the air!"
Jay Garrick observed our interaction, a slight, almost imperceptible, smile on his face. "Your friend is quite insightful, Mr. Allen."
"Yeah, Adam's got a knack for it," Barry replied, grinning. "He's our resident 'gut feeling' guy."
My internal monologue screamed: He's watching me. He knows I know something. Or he suspects. Play it cool, Adam. Play it cool.
As Cisco began to experiment with his nascent vibe abilities, I provided subtle encouragement, guiding him towards focusing on the emotional resonance of the breaches, knowing that's how his powers truly manifested.
Later that evening, after we'd successfully captured Sand Demon, the first Earth-2 metahuman, Caitlin and I had a quiet moment.
"The multiverse," she mused, leaning her head on my shoulder. "It's… overwhelming. Knowing there are other versions of us out there. Other me's. Other you's."
"Yeah," I said, squeezing her hand. "It's a lot. But it also means that no matter what happens here, there are always other possibilities. Other chances. And other versions of us who are probably just as confused and tired as we are."
She chuckled softly. "I guess so. But I'm glad I'm with this version of you."
"Me too, Doc," I murmured, kissing her hair. Me too. Even if this version of me knows that the Flash of Earth-2 is actually the biggest psycho we've ever faced.
