Chapter 394: 153 Dean Jian, Jian Zhe’s Cheating Friend (Second Update)_1

Bai Lian’s voice was speaking.

Jiang He, who couldn’t understand Go and sat in a chair, half-asleep, was suddenly alert. He jumped up to open the door.

But Director Chen was faster. Holding his chopsticks, he came out, walked to the gate, and opened it, “Miss Bai.”

After he spoke, he saw the silver suitcase in Bai Lian’s hands.

Director Chen reached out to take it.

Bai Lian waved her hand, not giving it to him, and then turned her head, “We’ve arrived.”

It was then that Director Chen noticed the elderly man beside Bai Lian. The Chen family didn’t deal in the arts—the senior Chen had once fought against thieves, Chen Beixuan was trained in sniping, and Director Chen himself had come out of the military…

Jiangjing was so vast; he didn’t recognize Dean Jian, only finding him vaguely familiar.

If it had been the president of Jiangjing University or Jiangjing National Defense, Director Chen would have definitely known him.

Dean Jian hadn’t seen Director Chen either. Bai Lian put the suitcase aside and introduced Dean Jian to the family.

Dean Jian stood beside her and quietly tried to lift the suitcase with one hand.

He couldn’t budge it.

“…”

He stared at the suitcase, puzzled and silent for a long time before he came to his senses and introduced himself to people like Ji Heng, “Bai Lian and I are friends; just here for a visit to Xiangcheng.”

Having struggled with his mother since his childhood, what hardship hadn’t he endured? Here, he had none of the airs of a dean.

Shen Qing’s eyes lit up; she greatly admired teachers who practiced the arts, “Quick, please, have a seat.”

It was Jiang Fulai, though, upon hearing he was a Jian, who gave him a longer look.

That look was chilling.

Jian Zhongyou was quite confused at the dinner table, thinking he hadn’t offended the young man, right? Why did he seem so fierce, to the point that even Jian Zhongyou felt somewhat daunted?

Of course, he wasn’t aware that the screenshot Bai Lian had taken before contained the words “Dean Jian.”

In a few words, Jiang Fulai guessed Dean Jian’s identity.

Everyone at the table was very talkative, except for Bai Lian, Jiang Fulai, and Jiang He, who spoke little and ate politely, obviously having received specialized training in etiquette.

Whenever someone asked her something, Bai Lian would always swallow her food before speaking.

“We’re going fishing tomorrow,” Ji Heng, knowing this was Bai Lian’s friend, was very polite to Dean Jian, “Do you have any plans? You can join us for fishing and also take a look at the Xiangcheng River; it’s quite spectacular.”

He knew Bai Lian was on a tight schedule, with her senior year being very busy, using every bit of time for homework.

Dean Jian thanked him, “Thank you.”

Before coming to Xiangcheng, he had also looked up the history of the place and was quite interested in Xiangcheng. He had come to find Bai Lian and also wanted to get a good look at its history.

In the evening, Dean Jian temporarily stayed over at Ji Heng’s place.

Xiangcheng Train Station.

At seven thirty, the train arrived, but the person Jian Zhonghai was supposed to meet wasn’t there.

“Where is the person the old president was supposed to meet?” Ren Wanxuan had been eager to see who Jian Zhonghai was supposed to pick up.

But she didn’t see anyone.

Ren Qian was also puzzled.

Jian Zhonghai was quite astonished; he took out his phone and made a call.

Two minutes later, he furrowed his brows, saying to his father, “The person has arrived, but they don’t want to see us; they avoided the train and went straight back to the mansion. We’ll discuss this when we get back.”

Jian Zhe seldom left Jiangjing; within the Jian Family of Jiangjing, meeting him was as difficult as reaching the sky.

Now that he was out of Jiangjing, it was the only chance to persuade Jian Zhe.

The group headed back to the mansion, while Jian Rong wanted to return to the Calligraphy Association.

With Ren Qian and Jian Zhonghai both present, hearing his son talk so insignificantly, Jian’s father scolded in a low voice, “Even Jian Rong is obediently following your grandfather; with this opportunity, you should show your best, and you want to go back to the local Calligraphy Association for what?”

Obviously, it was to practice calligraphy; Jiang Fulai made him write one hundred big characters every day which, due to an early departure that day, he had yet to complete.

“Dad, would you and Grandpa like to visit the Xiangcheng Calligraphy Association?” Jian Rong tried to sell the idea to Jian Zhonghai, “It’s really nice, and the kids there are adorable…”

Jian’s father’s forehead throbbed with veins.

He wished he could cover his son’s mouth on the spot.

Jian Zhonghai glanced at Jian Rong, “If I have time, I might take a look.”

Jian Zhonghai was a proper former president with an administrative rank, not just any ordinary deputy position. With his status, if it weren’t for Jian Zhe, Jian Zhonghai wouldn’t have come to this place in his lifetime, let alone visit a local Calligraphy Association…

It was utterly unthinkable.

The next day.

Early in the morning, Ji Heng brought the New Year’s gifts to the Ren Family.

Being no ordinary household, Ji Heng had put thought into it, presenting a painting he had embroidered himself, along with some expensive tobacco and alcohol.

“In-law,” Ren Qian personally came down to greet him, directing someone to bring the gifts into his study, “Have lunch here at noon; I’ll have it prepared.”

Ren Qian looked around; Bai Lian hadn’t come.
