Chapter 33: 33- Luz and the pack
"He's fine with his own money, I'm sure; just ask me next time."
Aksel licked his ice cream, smirking as he walked away. "Whatever. I'm not trying to get between you two. You look good together. But, you know, if it doesn't work out, I'm still single."
Saoirse shot him an annoyed look. "Get out of here, I'm working."
The shopkeeper watched the exchange and then turned to Saoirse. "Are you sure you can handle such a big responsibility, managing the economy like this?"
Saoirse watched Aksel leave, then smiled at the shopkeeper. "I can handle anything. It's managing that omega wolf over there that's the real challenge."
The woman chuckled. "Don't worry. You're a strong, capable woman. He underestimates you, but he'll come around. Just please, see what you can do about these taxes. It would help us a lot."
Saoirse thanked her. "I appreciate the advice. I'll see what I can do."
Outside, Saoirse noticed Sirius didn't have an ice cream. She took his hand and led him to the next shop. "So, I'm guessing you didn't actually need my card?"
"Why would you think that?" Sirius replied.
She raised an eyebrow. "Well, Aksel said you needed it, then he went and bought himself an ice cream."
"I know." Sirius glanced at Aksel, who had resumed following them. "I'm still not sure what you ever saw in him."
Aksel frowned. "I'm heading back. You two enjoy your little date."
Aksel stomped away angrily, trying to hide his embarrassment.
Sirius folded his arms and watched him go. Shaking his head and disapproving of the omega who was just going to cause trouble for him in the future.
Once he was gone, Saoirse burst out laughing.
"What's so funny?" Sirius asked.
She laughed a while longer and then pretended to wipe away a tear. "You should see your face! You're so serious all of the time! Whoever named you did a good job!"
He scowled and then he saw the humor in the way he had been behaving tonight and did a little chuckle. He tried to chase her and she ran around the wire table that was outside of the ice cream shop, laughing.
"I'll get you for this Saoirse, letting me worry about you because of that other guy!" He joked.
She laughed as he attempted to catch her and she ran into a dress shop and hid amongst a rack of dresses.
She stood there with anticipation as he entered and smelled the air for her scent. He looked in her direction and came closer, yanking apart the dresses to reveal his hiding wife there and she screamed with excitement, laughing.
"I got you!" Sirius said and began tickling her. She fell to the ground laughing.
"Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!" She laughed. "I surrender Alpha! I'm no match for you!" She teased him and then she tried to catch her breath as he stopped messing around to let her.
A few people were looking their way as she turned into a wolf and playfully tackled him before running out of the shop and he turned into a wolf as well, chasing after her.
They chased each other through the streets for a while longer until they reached the end of the shopping strip and then they tumbled through the forest, the wind blowing through their hair.
Saoirse was running away from Sirius now. She kicked off from the dirt and maneuvered over rocks and around corners, leaping over fallen trees and changing direction to make the chase harder for him.
He smiled as he panted hard and persued her. Never before had he spent so much time as an animal, just seeing what he could do with his body. He watched her maneuver around another tree, her tail balancing her momentum to make the sharp turn and he did so as well.
"Get back here!" He growled playfully. "I'm gonna bite you, you little stinker!"
Then she ran up a tree, digging her sharp claws into the bark until she reached the top. He kicked off of the ground and wings sprouted and launched him up into the tree after her, before he extended his claws and gripped fast to the trunk. She let out a shrill scream of excitement as he caught her.
They sat up in the tree for a minute, reverting back to their human forms and caught their breath. She leaned into his embrace and twirled one of his feathers that had fallen off of him in her fingers.
"You don't have to worry about Aksel." She said after a while, "I'm not going to let him trick me anymore. And I don't like him back."
"I trust you, it's just that he's sneaky and I've seen the way he looks at you, I can't help but worry and be protective…. And of our young." He said worriedly.
She gave a nibble to his neck. "You're sweet." She said. "But I can take care of myself I always have."
Then she started to climb back down from the tree and he put his hand to the wet spot on his neck and winced as a bruise began to form. He closed his eyes and didn't see the lavender eyes looking back at him deep in the forest, up another tree.
"Just wait your turn Lucy." The man said to his beast who struggled to escape, wanting to pounce on them both right now. "Just wait your turn."
"Wait up!" Sirius called to her and climbed down as well.
Reaching the bottom, he rushed to hold her hand as they walked back to the town.
A black shadow following them.
Then they did have a date. Sirius took her to the ice cream shop and bought her an ice cream and they went and saw a movie.
The whole war felt so far away and things were peaceful in this pack.
"I want the whole world to be like this." Saoirse said as they headed back to Saoirse's car, which was hidden in some bushes just off of the property line. They had gone and gotten it from the hotel earlier since it had been abandoned there overnight.
She reached out her hand and took the door handle and it unlocked in response with a light beep beep.
Sirius got in the passenger side and they headed back to his house.
When they got home, Saoirse looked around at all of Maeve's plants and sighed. "Oh she's going to be really mad we did this. I'm so sorry."
She began picking up everything that they had broken in the storm earlier and threw it in the trash.
Sirius went outside and grabbed the garbage can from off of the street and they scooped up all of the broken pottery into it, and then swept the floor and ordered the room.
The room looked so empty now. "Tomorrow we should go get Maeve." Sirius said.
"I'll replace her plants for her." Saoirse said, "she can pick out whatever she likes."
Sirius went and got into bed, a little quieter now like something was on his mind.
"What is it?" Saoirse asked.
He rubbed his neck where she had bit him and it had started to form a bruise.
She put her hands to her mouth and covered it confused. "I can't turn you into a werewolf, what's wrong with your neck?"
He sighed. "It's a blight." He said. "Maeve didn't like it that you did that."
