Chapter 130 Tribute to the Celtic Legend, King of Green Hats_2
Understanding the Great Commander's intention, Supreme King Conmark made up his mind:
"Very well. Finn, I entrust this matter to you. Assemble your troops immediately and lead the Fiona Knights to Alster to support the Red Branch Knights and help clear the foreign enemies! If you can lead the army to victory, I will personally arrange a marriage for you with my most beloved daughter, Grainne!"
Upon hearing this, Finn, who was usually calm and gentle, showed a rare excitement on his face. He immediately raised his right hand and pounded it heavily on his chest:
"Please await good news, Your Majesty, I will not disappoint your trust!"
After speaking, Finn led a few warriors under his command, turned, and left the Royal Palace to prepare for battle at the military camp.
Watching the Great Commander leave, Supreme King Conmark on the throne seemed to suddenly lose his support. He yawned and waved to the court:
"All withdraw, I'm tired."
Everyone respectfully saluted and then gradually left the Royal Palace.
The grand hall returned to emptiness, and the surroundings became silent once more.
"Grainne, what do you think of this matter?"
"To completely isolate a nation from external connections and even interrupt the resonance of the Temple, this is definitely not ordinary Curses. There is a master on the other side."
In the darkness, a young girl in luxurious clothes silently walked behind the throne, placing her hands on Supreme King Conmark's shoulders, gently massaging them.
Her eyes were deep and bright, gleaming with floating Ogan Tree Runes. Her exquisite face was like a painting, with a high nose and rebelliousness hidden beneath a docile appearance, she sneered:
"If not handled properly, our Great Commander might just stumble this time."
"I think so too."
At this moment, the Supreme King of Ireland on the throne straightened his body, like an old lion awoken from sleep, completely shedding the haze of his public persona, with wisdom accumulated over the years in his eyes.
"Then why didn't you directly seek help from Sky Island?" Grainne was a bit puzzled.
"Would it really be a good thing if those from Sky Island came down to solve the problem?" Conmark asked in return, then snorted coldly, "If what comes from the sea is a ferocious tiger, then those from the sky are a pack of hungry wolves that cannot be satisfied."
As the representative of Mortal World royalty, he had actually lived for a long time.
In several past Great Invasions, he chose to bet on the Danu Divine Race, contributing greatly to their establishment and growth of faith during the Celtic God Era.
After the wars, he gained worldly royal power, and during his reign, his wisdom and national strength were prominent, earning much respect from the Danu Divine Race. They gifted him a magical Golden Apple, granting him a long lifespan, and making him a renowned wise king of Ireland.
But everything comes with a price.
Over time, Conmark gradually found that the Danu Divine Race was slowly infiltrating his royal authority, extending the influence of the Deities to every region of Ireland,
Now, in the four major regions of Ireland.
King Fergus of Ulster married a deity, and his foster son Cu Chulainn was the son of the Sun God Lugh and grandson of Nuada;
Queen Meave of Connacht was rumored to have elf blood and had a friendship with the Shadow Country Queen Skaha;
The warriors of Lunster and Munster made up the main force of the Fiona Battle Group, and Great Commander Finn was the grandson of Military God Nuada, a cousin of Cu Chulainn. Additionally, Finn's nephew Diomued was the foster son of the God of Love, his son Ao Xiang was the son-in-law of the God of the Sea, and his grandson Oscar was the grandson of the God of the Sea…these were important members of the Fiona Battle Group.
In just a few hundred years, shadows of deities and demigods could be found in almost all the four tribes of Ireland; while he, the Supreme King, was alive, he was becoming a puppet.
Even if they wanted to seize power, the Danu Divine Race was being too hasty.
This behavior of rushing to kill the donkey before even removing the millstone naturally drew Conmark's resentment, along with deep vigilance against Finn and his Fiona Battle Group.
Furthermore, the Great Commander Finn was not as dutiful and obedient as his predecessor father; as he continuously established meritorious deeds and increased his prestige, signs of outshining the host began to appear.
The Fiona Battle Group under his command had undergone several reforms and expansions, knowing only the Great Commander and not the Supreme King.
Initially, it was Conmark, the Supreme King, who gathered the warriors from Lunster and Munster to form the massive Fiona Battle Group to maintain Ireland's royal authority, and members were required to pledge allegiance to this king upon joining.
However, over time and with internal reforms of the Fiona Knights, the succeeding Great Commander Finn gradually replaced Supreme King Conmark, becoming a more influential representative.
Facing such a youthful and vigorous subordinate, a group of proud and fierce warriors, and a battle group that was too big to control, along with the continuous infiltration of Divine Authority into royal power, Conmark had to sleep with one eye open every night, physically and mentally exhausted, living in great frustration.
Seeing her father inadvertently showing genuine emotions, Grainne bravely spoke, coquettishly:
"Father, I don't like Finn."
"Neither do I."
Conmark patted the little hand on his shoulder, gently comforting his daughter.
Grainne pouted with some resentment:
"Then why did you promise to marry me to him?"
"Because I need him, Ireland needs him too. If I am no longer here, you all need him even more."
Conmark answered deeply, his face was serene as water.
As a competent ruler, one must separate the gains and losses of interests from personal likes and dislikes, not being casually swayed by emotions.
On a personal level, indeed, he did not like Finn.
But from a national perspective, he couldn't help but rely on this Great Commander and his Fiona Battle Group to maintain Ireland's balance.
Moreover, even if they were to turn against each other, now was not the time.
Conmark patted his daughter's hand again, contemplating,
"Grainne, you are skilled in Curses, and you have a good personal relationship with Queen Meave of Connacht. This time, you should also join the Fiona Battle Group, and head to Alster with Finn and the others. If anything changes, you can seek help from Queen Meave to preserve the strength of the Fiona Battle Group as much as possible."
"Help him? I won't go!"
"It's to help yourself!" Seeing her unwilling, Conmark had to clarify, "Finn has boasted, if he wins, all is well; if he loses, it will be the perfect opportunity to reclaim his military power, with you taking the helm of the Fiona Battle Group."
Hearing this, Grainne's eyes lit up, the gloom on her face dissipating, she said:
"I'll go, but I'm a magician, and being on the battlefield could be risky, so I need to choose a guard to ensure my safety."
"Alright, I'll issue an order, you go to him for a person."
Conmark nodded in agreement, then wrote a letter and handed it to his daughter.
With the letter in hand, Grainne jubilantly ran out of the Royal Palace to the military camp to find someone.
The next morning, Great Commander Finn, dressed in armor, holding a spear, rode on the majestic Horse of the Underworld, and waved his hand to give orders.
The assembled Fiona Battle Group marched martially out of the Royal Capital, heading towards the isolated Alster Kingdom.
At the end of the convoy, Princess Grainne sat in a luxurious carriage, quietly lifting the curtain to peek at a guard riding a war horse and patrolling around the carriage.
His black curly hair had a purple hue, with teardrop moles like blood diamonds embedded at the corners of his eyes. His silver armor was inlaid with gold patterns, carrying two scarlet and gold-patterned spears on his back, with an aura at the spear tips imbued with the hue of dusk. His emerald eyes bore the cold light of a sword edge, his thin lips tightly pressed, carving a jawline that sliced through moonlight, with a frosty promise unfulfilled between his brows. Every time his war boots crushed the gravel, a scent of gold roses lingered, on the verge of wilting, emanated from the crevices of his armor.
Without a doubt, he was a stunningly handsome man.
"Diomued..."
Grainne murmured the man's name, a blush spread across her pretty face, becoming somewhat bewildered in her gaze.
"Ahchoo!"
Meanwhile, leading the group upfront, Great Commander Finn inexplicably felt a chill, causing him to sneeze robustly.
Why did he suddenly feel uneasy?
Finn wondered, then frowned, looking in the direction of the Alster Kingdom.
Could it be that the opponent Cu Chulainn and they are facing this time is formidable?
"Everyone, accelerate the march! We must arrive in Alster within three days!"
Finn waved his hand decisively, issuing the order. The Fiona Battle Group instantly lit up with pieces of Magic Light Patterns. Soldiers endowed with magic protection immediately sped up, advancing mightily towards the front lines.
