Chapter 284 Sir, This is the way! (4.1k)
Meanwhile, Olympus.
The once majestic Great Temple had fallen into shattered ruins, and rays of divine light intensely collided in the center of the broken walls, continuously forming dazzling auroras, attempting to disperse the surrounding clouds and thunder.
Yet upon the Golden Throne, Zeus, the Divine King, with most of his torso and one arm bound by chains, still grasped the Aegis Shield with his free hand, gathered the storm clouds from the sky, and forcibly blocked the combined assault from the pantheon of gods.
Even more, he still had the strength to manipulate the thunder, striking back.
"Boom!"
Bolts of thunder as thick as water buckets fell from the clouds above, forcing the gods exerting their power to temporarily retreat from the brunt.
"Why? Why would you betray your king!"
In front of the Divine Throne, Zeus, seizing a moment to catch his breath, furiously questioned the many rebels before him, his heart a mix of shock and anger.
Hera, Athena, Poseidon, Apollo, Artemis, Hephaestus, Aphrodite... out of the Twelve Olympians, seven had turned against him; how did it come to this?
"You should ask yourself that!"
Poseidon, who harbored the deepest grudges against his brother Zeus, sneered loudly and slammed his trident to the ground without hesitation.
Suddenly, deep blue divine power surged from the cracked ground, gathering the aether from the air and forming dazzling tidal waves that roared forward.
His Kingdom of Atlantis was gone, his son and many lesser deities had died, and even the last vestiges of his dignity were repeatedly ground into the dirt; how could he possibly forget these deeply engraved hatreds?
As memories of those humiliating times flashed through his mind, Poseidon intensified the divine power in his hands, and sea dragons, formed from the divine essence of the ocean, lunged towards Zeus in front of the Divine Throne.
Zeus quickly raised the Aegis Shield in his hand, gathered thunderclouds, and blocked this ferocious strike.
Seeing his desperately gathered assault dissolved again, Poseidon, frustrated and resentful, glared towards Hera.
According to the original plan, it was supposed to be Hera, wearing Aphrodite's golden girdle, using the God of Love's power to lure Zeus into her chambers, to make merry as he disarmed and let down his guard, with the other gods hiding outside the chamber ready to pounce and subdue the Divine King.
This strategy borrowed from the successful experience of the Craftsman God Hephaestus catching an adulterous pair; after all, organisms are oftentimes most vulnerable during coitus.
Years ago, Ares and Aphrodite were caught in the act by the lame Hephaestus because of this very tactic.
However, Hera flatly refused to perform the seductive part with her own husband, even intimate contact was something she greatly disliked.
So, the gods had no choice but to fall back to Plan B and act within the Great Temple itself.
Hera was only responsible for wearing Aphrodite's golden belt to lower Zeus's guard and lead him to the Golden Throne, which Hephaestus had tampered with in advance.
This plan, too, was rooted in past success.
Once, to avenge the mother who had abandoned him, Hephaestus, using his forging skills, crafted an exceptionally beautiful chair called 'Hephaestus's Throne'. Then, he placed this chair where he knew Hera would pass. Instinctively drawn by the chair's artistry, Hera sat without a second thought. Instantly, the chair's mechanisms locked her joints and sealed her divine power, rendering her immobile, and the gods, helpless, had to implore Hephaestus to return to Mount Olympus to release Hera, promising him a divine seat and many other benefits, and only then was the matter resolved.
The Golden Throne that now restrained much of Zeus's body was an improved creation by the Craftsman God Hephaestus.
However, the original aim of the gods was to wait until Zeus was fully settled in the throne, his body and limbs completely bound, before they would officially rise in rebellion.
Yet somehow, this king, who was already bewitched, suddenly snapped to alertness just as he was about fully seated, abruptly shrugging off Hera's assisting hand and freeing one hand and part of his torso.
Even more troubling, they had preemptively killed three Cyclops and sealed Zeus's [Thunderbolt], but didn't expect that he had brought the Aegis Shield with him and had, using this defensive artifact, blocked numerous attacks from the gods, thus managing to catch a breath.
This resulted in a stalemate.
Sensing the resentful look from Poseidon, Hera's face could not hide her displeasure; she immediately took up the [Heart-Seeking Bow] Corona Heart, transforming her divinity into a shower of arrows, shredding the thunderclouds gathering above Zeus. For a moment, Zeus's hand holding the Aegis Shield trembled slightly, and he let out a muffled groan.
Before ascending to his divine seat, he had sought to win the favor of his sister Hera by vowing to share in glory and dominion with her.
As a result, beyond her own divine authority, Hera was also endowed with a portion of the power to manipulate thunder and storms.
But the prerequisite was that they were to be a united husband and wife...
With everyone rebelling in life and death situations, why could Hera still share his authority, manipulating the thunder that belonged to him?
The injured Zeus was baffled and outraged, his words half threatening, half pleading.
"Hera, are you mad? I am still your husband! If you rebel with them, even you cannot remain the Queen of Heaven! Come back to my side, stop all this madness; I will not pursue your fault."
