Chapter 5: Chapter 5
"All right, Ino, let your brother take a shower first. After that, we'll start cooking together."
Their mother put down the ingredients in her hands, walked over to the two siblings with a warm smile, and gently pulled them into a hug.
"Hmph, I'm just looking out for him!" Ino pouted dramatically. "But does he ever appreciate it? Nope. And I was even going to make pan-fried deer steak just for him."
Seeing her sulk like that, both Yoruha and their mother burst out laughing.
"Okay, okay—I'm going to shower now," Yoruha said, waving his hand as he turned away. "Make sure you add extra chili and cumin to the venison. Get it nice and crispy on both sides."
He stepped into the bathroom.
After adjusting the water,Yoruha poured a vial of secret medicinal essence into the tub—a special tonic crafted by the Yamanaka Clan.
Medicinal baths were extremely valuable for shinobi. Not only were they expensive, but their effects were vital for recovery and growth.
Despite Yoruha's weak aptitude, his father, Yamanaka Inoichi, had never restricted his access to high-quality resources. He was, after all, his biological son.
Once the water was just right,Yoruha sank into the bath.Warm water and healing steam wrapped around his body.
The herbal compounds seeped through his pores, soothing his fatigueand replenishing the energy his cells had burned through today.
"Thanks to the Uzumaki bloodline, my body can absorb the medicine so much more efficiently,"Yoruha thought, completely at ease.
Now that the issue of his bloodline had been resolved, the next step was obvious:chakra refinement.
Scooping a ladle of hot water, he poured it slowly over his shoulders."But where do I learn the right technique?" he murmured."Do I ask my father…?
Or maybe… just go to a weapon shop and buy one of the civilian-grade versions?"
But was it even worth it?
In the Naruto world,as long as your body wasn't severely damaged, anyone could learn to refine chakra.
But to do so,you needed the proper chakra refinement technique.
There were countless versions available on the market, but most were basic bronze-level manuals—cheap, watered-down imitations. They had poor efficiency, and the chakra produced was unstable and thin.
On the other hand, clans like the Yamanaka naturally possessed superior refinement techniques—well-guarded secrets passed down for generations.
But when Yoruha was five,Inoichi had once used the Mind Body Switch Technique to briefly take control of his son's body, hoping to help him extract a little chakra.
The good news?
Yoruha did appear to have affinity with all seven chakra types—Yin, Yang, and the Five Elements.
The bad news?
Inoichi only managed to draw out a tiny bit of chakra—and even that nearly killed Yoruha.
He ended up bedridden for three months.
Since then,Inoichi had abandoned the idea of teaching his son chakra refinement altogether.
He decided that if it ever had to happen,it could wait until Yoruha was older and stronger.
So now—even if Yoruha went to his father and insisted that his body had improved,Inoichi still wouldn't take the risk.
Because he simply couldn't bear it.
And who could blame him?
After all, things like bloodline transformation weren't the kind of problems one could just "fix" by saying,"I'm better now."
The chances were too slim.
"Looks like I'll have to go see Uncle Fuma tonight..."Yoruha sighed to himself.
Later that evening, at the dining table—Yoruha was devouring the venison steak Ino had made just for him.
His appetite was ravenous, and he tore through it like a whirlwind.
"This venison's amazing. I'm guessing Uncle Shikaku sent it over?"
"Ha! I knew your tongue was too clever to fool."His mother laughed."Yes, it's from your Uncle Shikaku. The entrance exams are coming up soon,so he thought you and Ino should have a good meal to prepare."
Seeing Yoruha eat with such gusto made her heart feel full.Whether or not he became a ninja didn't really matter to her. What mattered most…was that the family was safe, healthy, and happy.
"Brother…" Ino started, then hesitated."Are you really going to take the entrance exam this time?"
She bit her lip and glanced down.
In Konoha, once a child turned six, they were eligible to take the entrance exam for the Ninja Academy.
But eligibility didn't guarantee success.
To pass, one needed to meet basic physical and chakra criteria. And her brother…
Could he really do it?
Was it truly possible?
