Chapter 16: The Guardian's Trust
Chapter 16: The Guardian's Trust
Han Feng took a deep breath. The Misty Wolf lay beside the chrysalis of the Mysterious Gu, its bloodied flank betraying the recent struggle.
The enemy cultivator had retreated, but not for long. If he returned with reinforcements, Han Feng would have no way to confront them directly.
His gaze fell upon Gu. The chrysalis pulsed softly, radiating a unique energy, but remained dormant. To refine it, I would need time and an appropriate method.
But first, I had to deal with the wounded wolf.
A Careful Step
He moved slowly, avoiding any gesture that could be interpreted as hostile. The golden gaze of the wolf fixed on him, alert.
Han Feng stopped three meters away and, with a deliberate motion, took a small jade vial from his robes.
Moon Spirit Grass Dust.
A rare medicinal herb that helped heal wounds in spiritual beasts. It wasn't a miraculous elixir, but perhaps it was enough to demonstrate his intentions.
He poured a little of the powder into the palm of his hand and let the aroma spread through the air.
The wolf perked up its ears and inhaled the scent. His tense muscles relaxed a bit, but his eyes were still full of distrust.
Han Feng didn't force anything. He simply placed the powder on the ground and took a step back, showing that he posed no threat.
For a moment, the wolf hesitated. But then, with a careful movement, he licked the powder, absorbing the medicinal essence.
His wounds glowed faintly, initiating a slow process of regeneration.
Han Feng smiled internally. It was a start.
The Connection between Man and Beast
For the next hour, Han Feng remained silent, just watching the wolf and occasionally spreading more medicinal powder.
Gradually, the wolf's hostile gaze became less sharp.
Han Feng knew that trust was not gained in a single day, but at least now he was no longer seen as an immediate enemy.
"Well... that makes things easier."
With the wolf less aggressive, I could focus on the next challenge: refining the Mysterious Gu before the enemy returned.
The Connection with the Dual Chaos Larva
He sat in the lotus position, closed his eyes, and focused his consciousness inward.
The Celestial Diagram pulsed gently, and the Dual Chaos Larva within his dantian awakened in response.
The connection between them was unique. Unlike common Gu masters, Han Feng didn't need a cauldron to refine Gu—he could use his own Qi to feed and evolve them directly.
But the Mysterious Gu was different from any other.
He felt her aura strange, unstable, as if something were incomplete.
Suddenly, a fragment of memory emerged in his mind. The catalyst!
In Chapter 13, we had discovered that the Mysterious Gu was incomplete and needed a catalyst to be refined.
Now, Han Feng finally understood what he needed: the blood of a spiritual beast of sufficient level to stabilize his evolution.
Looking at the Nebulous Wolf, he realized what he had to do.
But... how would I convince the wolf to give me that blood?
