Chapter 52: Chapter 50
Third Person POV
In New York, the Web Warriors were fighting for their lives, and for everyone else's. They were doing their best to save as many people as they could, but it wasn't easy. The monsters weren't just towering behemoths tearing up streets and buildings; there were also smaller, humanoid creatures attacking civilians directly. Despite the combined strength and skill of the Web Warriors, there were simply too many threats and too many people to protect.
"Damn it," Miles muttered, guilt and frustration in his voice after failing to save a man from one of the creatures. But he made sure that monster didn't hurt anyone else.
"There are way too many," Gwen said, holding up a slab of rubble just long enough to get two terrified kids to safety. "We can't save everyone! Where's our backup?"
"I don't know," Peter responded, smashing through a monster's head with a single punch, "but Peggy said help's on the way. Just don't hold back. Hit them with everything you've got!"
And they did. Every Spider went all in, no restraint, no hesitation. Their attacks turned lethal, aimed to kill. But even with that level of intensity, they were still losing. There were too many monsters. Too much chaos. And the colossal one, bigger than the buildings, was tearing through the city unchecked.
Then, out of nowhere, a portal opened above the battlefield.
Out stepped Bang, flanked by Pietro and an army of sleek, fully armed combat robots.
"You kids did good holding the line," Bang said, surveying the battlefield calmly. "Now fall back and focus on rescue efforts. Pietro will help with evac, and the bots will handle the rest of the small fry. As for the big one, leave that to me."
"You sure, Master Bang?" Peter asked as he crushed rubble to free a trapped civilian. "That thing's huge! I hit it with everything I had and barely left a dent."
"Trust me, Spider-Man. I've handled worse." Bang cracked his knuckles. "And while we're doing hero work, call me Silver Fang."
With that, he blitzed forward like a bullet, tearing through rows of monsters like they were nothing.
"Oh, and just call me Quicksilver," Pietro added with a smirk before vanishing in a blur, zipping civilians to safety one after another, some even delivered straight to nearby hospitals.
The Web Warriors redirected their efforts, focusing on saving lives.
Peter spotted a familiar face pinned beneath a collapsed awning. His heart dropped as he recognized Beth. He rushed over, lifted the rubble, and quickly picked her up.
Her leg was injured, but she was alive. As he prepared to swing her to safety, she whispered something that made his whole body freeze.
"Thank you, Peter," she said softly in his ear.
He blinked. "Wait… what?"
"It's a long story," Beth said, wincing from the pain. "And not how I planned to tell you I know your identity. But right now… maybe get us out of here? My leg really hurts."
"Oh, right, yeah. We'll talk later," Peter muttered, getting his focus back as he shot a web and swung them away from the chaos.
Meanwhile, across the city...
A man was sprinting down the streets of New York, wielding a massive battle axe. Every step shook the ground. He swung the weapon like it weighed nothing, cleaving through monsters with each powerful strike.
Escanor was on a mission.
"Please be okay… I'm almost there. Just hang on."
His bar in Hell's Kitchen had been attacked earlier, and he took care of the invaders quickly. But when he realized the whole city was under siege, his thoughts immediately went to The Runaways. With his super soldier serum-enhanced body and adamantium battle axe, he cut through the streets like a one-man army, sprinting straight toward their base.
It took him only two minutes to reach the abandoned warehouse. He could see it glowing, light and explosions leaking from inside. Monsters were pouring in... and getting blasted right back out.
Escanor stormed through the horde, slicing his way in until he found the Runaways surrounded, backs against the wall.
Alex was firing a pistol, but it barely scratched the beasts.
Nico was firing off spell after spell, fireballs, ice shards, chunks of earth, but her staff only let her use each spell once.
Karolina glowed with every color of the rainbow, energy blasting from her hands, but her stamina was clearly running low.
Gert stood in the center with her eyes closed, mentally commanding Old Lace, who fought tooth and claw to protect her.
Chase blasted monsters with his high-tech gauntlets, but they barely slowed them down.
And Molly... Molly was a mess. Blood on her forehead, bruised knuckles, breathing hard, she'd been fighting them hand-to-hand with her super strength, but even that wasn't enough.
Escanor's rage boiled over.
"STAY AWAY FROM MY KIDS!" he roared, his voice echoing across the warehouse as he launched himself into the fray.
And now, the tide was about to turn.
Escanor stood tall, blood on his axe, monsters at his feet.
He'd slaughtered every creature that had surrounded the Runaways, and now he was posted in front of them like an immovable wall. More monsters were coming, dozens, maybe hundreds, but Escanor didn't flinch.
"I know all of you probably have a million questions right now," he said without turning around, his deep voice calm but firm, "but I'm asking you to trust me. Just stay behind me. I'll protect you."
Molly, bruised and bloody but smiling, spoke first. "We always trust you."
"And we do have questions," Alex added, "but… let's survive this first."
"You will. All of you will," Escanor promised, tightening his grip on his axe. "Even if it costs me my life. Stay behind me, and let me handle the rest."
Meanwhile, in the heart of Omnitech Nexus…
The entire building was shaking from the impacts outside. But the Nexus was one of the most advanced facilities on Earth; it had shields, countermeasures, and more than enough protection for those inside… for now.
At the top of the tower in the command suite, Ashley, Yuriko, and Stratos stood watching the chaos on the monitors.
"Mom, please," Stratos begged, his fists clenched. "Let me go out there. I can help them. I have powers."
"Absolutely not!" Ashley snapped. "We wait for your father to show up and deal with this. You're not going anywhere."
"But what if he's busy?! He's not here yet, and every minute we wait, people are dying!"
Ashley walked over and knelt to meet him at eye level.
"Stratos…" she said softly. "I know you want to be like your father. And we both agreed you could do that, after you're old enough and have proper training. You're neither right now. The only thing you'd accomplish out there… is getting yourself killed. And I won't let that happen."
Her voice cracked. "You are the best thing that's ever happened to me. I can't lose you. Do you understand?"
Stratos looked down. "I… I understand."
He looked back up at her. "And I'm sorry."
Before Ashley could respond, he darted back, turned, and blasted a hole through the window, flying out with a scarf wrapped around his head to hide his identity.
"STRATOS!!" Ashley screamed, rushing to grab her phone.
She hit a contact.
Back in Sanctuary…
Several screens flickered in a lab as chaos played out across the world. May, Bruce, Marlize, Mary, and Richard all watched silently, each processing the horror in their own way.
"I hope Peter's okay," May whispered, eyes locked on the devastation in New York.
Bruce clenched his fists and turned away. "I can't just sit here. I have to help. I have the power to stop this, I have to go."
He was halfway to the exit when Marlize caught his arm. "Bruce, no. It's too dangerous."
"Not for me," Bruce said grimly. "You and I both know, the Hulk is hard to kill and he loves a fight."
She stared at him for a moment, knowing he was right, and terrified anyway.
"Then promise me something," she said quietly. "Come back to me. Come back to me."
"You have my word," Bruce said, pulling her into a kiss. When it ended, he looked her in the eye one more time—then turned and headed straight for the teleport room.
"I can't stay here either," Mary said suddenly.
Richard looked shocked. "What? You're pregnant! You can't go into battle!"
"I know that," Mary replied. "But we can still send someone."
She pointed to a screen displaying sea monsters approaching Los Angeles.
"They're in the water. And we do happen to have our very own sea monster. Still on the island. In his nest."
Richard's eyes widened. "…Goliath."
They both rushed out of the lab toward the ice nest, hoping they could convince the creature to fight for them.
Marlize, phone ring.
Marlize picked up, confused. "Ashley?"
"I need you to transform. Give me powers. Any powers, just strong enough to protect my son."
"What?!"
"Stratos ran off. He blasted through the window and flew out there. I need powers, Marlize. Please."
There was no hesitation.
"Nooroo, Light Wings, Rise!"
Marlize transformed instantly into her Miraculous form and sent a glowing butterfly out the window, fast, bright, and aimed directly toward Ashley.
"Hold on, Stratos," Ashley whispered. "I'm coming."
Over in Freeland…
A-Train was having a rough time.
He was moving as fast as he could, trying to save everyone, but there were just too many monsters and not enough time. He'd already lost count of how many people he couldn't save, and each one stung more than the last. He couldn't stop to grieve. All he could do was focus on saving the next life.
He was trying to fight the monsters, but his speed alone wasn't enough. Not against these things. And that massive beast destroying half the buildings? He was completely outmatched.
Lucky for him, backup arrived.
"I just finished checking this entire area," A-Train said, panting slightly, wiping blood off his mask. "No civilians left, it's just us and these monsters. We need to hold them here, keep them from spreading to the rest of the city."
"That's fine and all," Black Lightning said, blasting a monster off a rooftop. "But we still need more help. Where the hell are your super-friends? Anyone coming?"
Before A-Train could answer, a portal opened right behind them—and out stepped Siegfried, shining armor and all, flanked by an entire army of robots.
"Siegfried! Man, you have no idea how happy I am to see you right now," A-Train said, relief flooding his voice.
"One guy?" Black Lightning asked, raising an eyebrow. "Your boss sent one guy?"
"Trust me," A-Train replied, stepping aside, "Siegfried is enough."
"You are correct," Siegfried said confidently. "Do not worry. That beast, and its minions, are as good as dead."
He didn't waste another word. He rushed toward the giant monster like a silver bullet, cleaving through every lesser creature in his path. When he reached the main beast, it only took three strikes, clean, fast, surgical, and the entire creature was obliterated.
Black Lightning blinked. "…Damn."
"Told you," A-Train said with a smug nod.
Once Siegfried finished the job, his robots immediately spread out, targeting the smaller monsters and executing them one by one with ruthless efficiency.
Siegfried calmly walked back toward A-Train and Black Lightning, sword now resting on his shoulder.
"A-Train," he began, "Arsenal is currently unavailable, but Captain Carter is running Overwatch. This isn't just happening in Freeland—it's happening everywhere. She's been sending us to different hot zones to eliminate these creatures. The robots will remain here, assist the citizens, and clean up the rest of these things."
He looked between them, serious.
"But we need to move. Fast. There's a city with no heroes that's being overrun. Anissa already cleared Japan, China, and Korea. Battle Beast took care of all of Africa. Our next target needs us now."
"Then let's go," Black Lightning said, charging his electricity.
"Just point me where to run," A-Train added, stretching.
With no hesitation, another portal, and they all stepped through, ready for the next battlefield.
In Star City…
Kimiko was struggling.
Even with her enhanced strength, these monsters weren't going down easy. Some of them barely flinched when she punched them, and a few hits left her fists aching. She dodged a swipe, kicked another beast off a civilian, but it was clear, she needed backup.
Boom!
A portal opened behind her, and help arrived just in time.
Wanda stepped out first, eyes glowing red, chaos magic already swirling in her hands. Steve followed right behind her, shield at the ready, and behind them was an entire army of robots.
"Wanda, take the big one," Steve ordered.
Wanda didn't respond, she just floated into the air, her magic glowing brighter as she launched a massive red blast into the monster's chest, knocking it into a building.
Steve and Kimiko rushed back-to-back, clearing out small monsters with the help of the robots. But even with backup, it wasn't easy. These things were fast, and their skin was tough, tougher than anything Kimiko had ever fought before.
"When this is over," Steve grunted as he slammed a monster with his shield, "we're getting upgrades."
Kimiko nodded, slamming a creature into the ground hard enough to crack the pavement.
"I'm serious," Steve continued. "Ed said he can give us bionics, or even powers. I don't know about you, but I'm gonna take him up on that."
Kimiko gave him a thumbs-up while ducking under a claw swipe.
They both knew the truth: this world wasn't getting safer—it was getting wilder, meaner, and deadlier. And the weaker they were, the fewer people they could save.
BOOM.
They turned at the sound of a massive explosion. Wanda had just vaporized the big monster.
Now she was helping with the rest, fireballs launching from her hands, miniature tornadoes of chaos magic ripping through waves of smaller creatures like they were made of paper.
"Man… Sabrina really taught her well," Steve muttered, eyes wide. "I wonder if she can teach me a thing or two."
In Palmera City…
Blue Beetle was in the fight of his life.
Using everything the Scarab could give him—drones, laser cannons, grappling blades, and armor upgrades—he was holding the line. But barely. He'd already shredded through dozens of small monsters, and the big one? It was limping, missing limbs, and still trying to flatten the city.
"This is insane," Jaime muttered. "What the hell is going on?"
He didn't get an answer, but he got something better. A portal opened, and stepping through it came Plo Koon, Lorna, and a squad of Vanguard robots.
Plo Koon's lightsaber ignited with a snap-hiss, Lorna's hands glowing green, and the robots immediately spread out to assist with rescue efforts and monster extermination.
"Yo! Who are you guys?!" Blue Beetle shouted as he blasted a monster through a wall.
"Don't worry, young one," Plo Koon said calmly, deflecting an incoming projectile with his saber. "We're here to help."
"We're part of the Vanguard Initiative," Lorna added, her voice confident as she hurled a wave of magnetic force into the giant monster's side. "You've been holding your own. Now let's bring this thing down."
"Oh okay, but, uh, what do I call you guys?"
"My name is Plo Koon," the Jedi said with a slight bow.
"You can call me Polaris," Lorna said, eyes crackling with green energy.
Jaime cracked a grin. "Alright. Let's wreck this thing."
They all charged together, three warriors, one goal: save the city.
