Chapter 15: Hunter Ranks
A month passed since that eventful night, and Vanessa and Allen had to go back to the Academy.
During this time, Kai focused on hunting and moving up to the harder areas, eventually tackling the Red Hunting Areas.
These areas were no joke and were definitely worthy of being the hardest area to hunt in. During one of his hunts in the red hunting grounds, Kai ran into a flea-eating horse. He didn't know what it was at first, but when it opened its mouth and revealed its bloody, jagged teeth, it started chasing him.
But that wasn't the worst part. What pissed him off was the sound the horse made. He hoped it would be the normal, typical 'neigh' but nope, that stupid fucking horse 'Mooed' instead. So he slaughtered every single one there.
Every day, he gained no less than 100 points, and the harder animals he hunted, the more points he got.
Then, the day he was mentally preparing for came.
"I'm pregnant," Martha revealed to him while she was eating breakfast with Kai and her father.
Carl dropped his fork and stared at her for a solid five minutes. He knew she and Kai were having sex and already knew there was a possibility that she would get pregnant, but the fact that it was actually happening wasn't something he was prepared for.
"I-It's you're Kai. You were my first, and I haven't looked at any other man. I went to the doctor, and she confirmed my symptoms. I-I hope you aren't mad." Her head was down, and she was visibly shaken. Not because she was pregnant, but because she didn't know what Kai would say or do.
"That's amazing!" He said, swallowing his food. "I'm gonna be a dad! Don't worry, Martha, I'll support you and our child. I was actually working toward getting a large house so you could have the space you need to raise our kid in cause you did get pregnant. I got a good bit saved up for now. By the time our baby is born, we should have a new home."
The relief that washed over her was like she had ascended and gone to heaven. She broke down and cried happy tears. "T-Thank you. I don't even care for the house. A-As long as you're here."
"I do have to tell you something in advance, though." He said in a serious tone.
"Y-Yes? What is it?"
"First, I wanted to tell you that I plan on becoming an adventurer and traveling the world, so I won't be around all the time. I'll still visit every month, so you don't need to worry about me being gone for months or years on end. Second, while I do plan on marrying you, you won't be the only woman in my life, nor will you be the only woman to bear my children. So the house I'm getting will also be a home to my future baby's mothers. I'll still send money and be around, though."
"T-That's fine. That's great, even. As long as you're around and can take care of me, then that's all that matters."
Kai smiled, holding her hand on the table. 'Of course its okay, I fucking hypnotised you to accept it after all.'
"So what now?" Carl asked, still in shock.
"Back to hunting to earn some money." Kai shrugged. He didn't need to worry about baby stuff right now. Besides, if they need anything, he'll get it for them.
"Oh, that reminds me. The Hunter's Association, the main people in charge of all Hunter Guilds in the kingdom, implemented a new system. All hunter IDs need to now have a rank on them. Since we've been using colors to classify the danger of hunting grounds, the ranks are simply green, yellow, orange, and red. You'll be red rank since you've been hunting in red grounds for a bit now. Go to the guild to get this done."
"Cool, thanks for letting me know. Here's some money to get some baby items in advance. Just tell me if you need more money and I'll get it for you." With that, Kai left for the guild.
"Sweetheart."
"Yes, Dad?"
"That boy, Kai. He's going to become a great man one day, I can feel it. Make sure you're a good wife to him and a good co-wife to his other women. One day, you all will be at the top of society thanks to him."
---
"Hello, I'm here to get my rank added to my Hunters License." Kai was speaking to one of the receptionists who worked in the guild. She, alongside everyone who was a regular, knew Kai and Martha were in a relationship. Kai also made sure to hypnotize them all as well to make things easier for himself.
"Great! I just need your license and I'll get it changed for you."
"Cool." He handed her the license.
"Please! We've already asked others, but they declined. We'll pay you well." A voice cried out from the distance.
"Nah, kid. The pay isn't the problem. It's the danger. No hunter would go on an adventure quest, especially one that involves trolls."
"Haha! You guys must be new to this adventuring gig. Go get someone else to die for you."
"You won't die, I promise. We'll protect you. All we need is someone to carry our luggage since this quest might take a while. We just need a porter. You'll be out of danger, and don't have to engage in any battle." The man was begging for anyone to accept the role, but everyone turned him down or ignored him.
"Here's your license, Kai. Have a safe hunt." The woman smiled.
"Thanks." His license still looked the same, but now, it had four orbs embedded in it, similar to the metal orb Paul had in his, but these four were wooden and a different color: green, yellow, orange, and red. Since he had all four colors on his, he could hunt in any hunting ground he wanted.
'Now, let's see what's going on over there.'
Kai approached the man. "Excuse me, sir? May I ask what's going on here?"
"Nice to meet you. I'm Josh." He wore metallic armor and had black hair.
"Kai." They shook hands.
"Well, Kai, my party and I are going on a quest, and we need a porter. The thing is, we're going to an area with a ton of goblins, hobgoblins, and trolls. It's dangerous, but the pay is good, I promise. Also, you don't have to worry about fighting. You just need to carry our stuff and collect monster drops. That's it. We'll protect you."
Josh made the offer sound enticing even as he mentioned how dangerous it was. It was evident that he needed a porter desperately, judging by how he was asking hunters instead of Adventurers. After all, in order to even become an adventurer, you need to have mana, meaning the weakest adventurer is stronger than the strongest hunters, give or take experience, and other factors such as a hunter hunting all primal beasts.
"May I ask what rank the quest is?"
"D."
"Kai, don't even bother."
"Yeah, man. Like, come on, a D rank quest? You're asking him to die."
"That's right. A hunter who has hunted all ten primal beasts would be equal to a D-rank adventurer at best. While Kai is a hunter prodigy and can hunt in red grounds, he hasn't hunted a primal beast."
It was nice that his fellow hunters were looking out for him, but Kai planned on accepting the quest.
"What's the pay?"
"For you as a porter, 1 gold. 2 gold if you know how to cook. 3 gold if you know how to fight." Josh was practically begging for Kai to accept, judging by how he was staring at him.
"Alright, I accept."
"I knew you would say...Wait! You accept? Really! Oh god, thank you! Thank you so much! Get your things ready, I'll meet you with my party at the main gate in 15 minutes!" He ran off.
"Come on, Kai, you didn't need to accept the request. It's dangerous."
"Haha, thanks for looking out for me. I really appreciate it, but I plan on hunting the primal beasts soon, and this could be a good experience." Now that he could hunt on red grounds and had killed the strongest animal there, the Alpha Komodo Dragon, he felt like he could take on a primal beast after a bit of preparation.
'Well, guess it's time to spend some points.' He looked at his SP.
[ SP - 3780]
'I was saving you for later, but it's okay if I spend some right now.'
