The Hidden Immortal Leisurely Life

Chapter 3: Settling In

Shen Xu sat outside the teahouse, gazing at the quiet village below. The night air was cool, carrying the faint scent of damp earth and blooming flowers. Inside, the girl his new, unwanted guest had made herself comfortable far too quickly.

He could hear the soft rustling of fabric as she settled into the spare room. No hesitation, no uncertainty. It was as if she had lived here for years.

Stray cat indeed.

The door slid open, and she stepped onto the wooden porch, stretching her arms lazily before taking a seat opposite him. Her long black hair spilled over her shoulders, illuminated by the soft glow of a nearby lantern.

"You're still awake?" she asked, tilting her head.

Xu poured himself another cup of tea. "I don't sleep much."

She hummed thoughtfully, watching him. Then, without asking, she reached for his teapot and poured herself a cup. He raised an eyebrow but said nothing.

"How long have you lived here?" she asked, blowing gently on her tea.

"Long enough," he answered.

She smirked. "That's not an answer."

"And yet, you understood it."

She chuckled, sipping her tea. "You don't like talking, do you?"

"I prefer silence."

She sighed dramatically, setting down her cup. "Then I must be unbearable to you."

Xu didn't respond. He wasn't sure yet if she was unbearable or just amusing enough to tolerate.

The night stretched on, and for a moment, they sat in silence. The girl Yue, as she had chosen to call herself seemed content, staring out at the darkened village. Her playful demeanor faded just slightly, replaced by something quieter, something more distant.

Xu observed her for a moment before speaking. "Whatever you're running from… it won't find you here."

She turned to him, surprise flickering in her eyes before she quickly masked it with a smile. "Who says I'm running from anything?"

Xu didn't bother answering. Instead, he leaned back against the wooden pillar, closing his eyes. "Go to sleep."

She pouted but stood, stretching once more before heading inside.

"Goodnight, Shen Xu," she said, her voice light and teasing.

He didn't respond, and soon, only the sound of the wind remained.

Xu exhaled slowly, sipping the last of his tea. He had lived quietly for years, never drawing attention to himself. And yet, in a single day, his peace had been shattered.

That girl was trouble. He knew it the moment she walked through his door.
