Chapter 13: Silver Eagles v. Golden Lions (End)
{} = Justin Commentary
() = Tonks Commentary
Time Remaining in Match: 49:43 (49 minutes and 43 seconds)
Golden Lions: 120
Silver Eagles 170
{I don't think it was a fake, Tonks, Weasley is still moving with purpose.}
(You're right, Justin, Weasley has faked out everybody by pretending to do a Wronski Feint! He is all alone now! 50 points for the Golden Lions! They are back in the game now.)
{Yes, we have just witnessed some Weasley magic, as he brings the game back to even.}
(Frange and the Silver Eagles are quick to respond with a goal of their own, putting them back in the lead. We should expect to see a slow restart from the Golden Lions, as there is no snitch for 5 minutes. The Silver Eagles just called a timeout, clearly, there is going to be a tactics change. What do you think, Justin?)
{I would expect a high press from the Silver Eagles for the next five minutes. I would also expect a beater swap. The Silver Eagles have the lead, and as long as they can prevent Weasley from catching the snitch again, they will win. The best way to do this is by going power against power. This game is quickly coming to a climax.}
(The timeout is over, and the Silver Eagles initiate a very aggressive high press. The Golden Lions will need to cope for the next 5 minutes. Wood hurriedly passes to Gregory, who initiates his signature sloth grip roll to evade the defense of Frange. An excellent bludger from Harte hits the back of Gregory's broom! Excellent pass! While falling off of his broom, Gregory still manages to pass back to Wood. Who cycles the quaffle back to Lock. Gregory hits the ground hard! Madam Pomfrey rushes onto the field, and the game is halted while they move Gregory out of the field of play.)
{He took a nasty fall there; it is unlikely he will be back in this game.}
(Yup, Madam Pomfrey has already declared him out with a concussion and a broken leg. First year Heather Amin will be taking his place.)
{That is a huge loss for the Golden Lions, the Silver Eagles will look to test out the young girl and potentially take advantage of her inexperience.}
(The game resumes, there is still three minutes until the new snitch gets released. Lock, under pressure from Lux, passes to Quinzel, who is immediately hassled by Manger. Good steal! Quinzel makes another errant pass and Frange snatches it out of the air. He is immediately through on the hoops.
Amin comes out of nowhere and provides Wood aid, but Frange overpowers her and passes to Lux, who is defended by Weasley. She makes an extra pass to Manger, who got away from Quinzel. Manger's shot goes wide, but Lowe is there for the rebound, and he bats the quaffle back to Frange.*)
*Author's Note: Beaters and seekers cannot 'handle the quaffle,' but there is no rule saying they can't hit it with the bat or their broom.
(Frange drops back, and the Silver Eagles take a moment to reset.)
{Amin did a good job forcing Frange to pass.}
(Yes, she is showing good spirit so far. The Silver Eagles resume their attack, one minute until the snitch gets released. Ryan and Weasley have already taken back to the seeker position in anticipation. The Eagles go into the Hawkshead Attacking Formation once more. Harte and Lowe send the bludgers forward to help clear a path. Prewett is able to block one of the bludgers, but Blanc whiffs and the bludger forces Lock out of formation. Frange passes to Lux and then shoulders Amin out of the path. Quinzel comes to mark, but Lux performs fancy broom drift to pass him. Goal!)
{What a lovely bit of skill there, Lux performed a broom drift into a rare Finbourgh Flick leaving Wood absolutely no chance to defend the shot. Lux scores her 7th of the match.}
GL 170 : SE 190
(The snitch is now live, Harte and Prewett have gone to support their seekers. There is now less than 43 minutes left in the match, as play with the quaffle resumes. The Golden Lions have once again decided to slow the game down and rely on their captain.)
...
(Well, we have seen a boring last half hour, as the pace of the game has slowed down quite a bit. With that most recent free shot conversion from the Golden Lions, the score is now Silver Eagles 220, Golden Lions 190.)
{Harte has done an excellent job slowing Weasley down, he has also only fouled twice so far, much better than when Lowe was defending Weasley.}
(The Golden Lions have just called their last time out. What tactical changes do you think will happen?)
{I think the Lions will have to leave Weasley to his own devices, as they need to start hunting goals. The Eagles will probably turtle up and try to slow the game down, time is on their side now.}
(The time out is over, and the Lions the exact opposite of what Justin just said. They have gone all in on Weasley, he now has both beaters helping him in the search for the snitch.)
{It is quite a surprising strategy. They completely abandoned the battle for the quaffle. Weasley now needs to catch the snitch before the Eagles score twice, otherwise the game is over.}
(The Golden Lions chaser have completely turtled up in their own half in an attempt to hold on to the quaffle for as long as possible.
Frange and Lux force Wood to pass to Quinzel, who is forced by Manger to pass to Lock. Lock attempts to advance the quaffle away from the front of their own hoops but is forced to dodge a bludger from Lowe. He is then caught between Frange and Lux.)
{They have set Lock up for a Parkin's Pincer, this could get brutal}
(Manger comes from beneath and spears Lock's broom with his own, completing the Parkin's Pincer maneuver. Lock releases the quaffle, as he grips his broom with only one hand. Amin abandons the defense of the quaffle to save Lock from falling. Manger has the quaffle now, he passes the quaffle to Lux, who advances with Frange on the hoops. Ouch!)
{Quinzel just attempted a Transylvanian Tackle, but miscalculated and punched Lux in the face instead.}
(He can expect a beating from the Ravenclaws after the match. Lux goes to Madam Pomfrey to get her nose fixed. Frange converts the penalty shot. The Silver Eagles decide not to call a timeout.)
{The teams are still even in number; Madam Hooch has taken Quinzel over and is giving him a lengthy talking to.}
(Play resumes, and the Silver Eagles have started to play more aggressively. Oof!)
{A brutal cobbing foul on Wood there. I wouldn't be surprised if Manger gets sent off for that}
(Madam Hooch has called a referee's timeout after that foul. That's crazy! Madam Hooch, in a bid to regain control of the match has decided to send off both Quinzel and Manger. Additionally, Madam Pomfrey has declared both Lux and Wood unable to continue with concussions.
The Silver Eagles substitute Ashe Lux with 3rd year Allison Harris, and the sent off Dervin Manger with 5th year Russell Moody.
Meanwhile, the Golden Lions substitute Oliver Wood with 3rd year Jacob Ward. Additionally, they move beater Prewett to chaser and replace Quinzel with 4th year substitute beater Muriel Fuller.)
{The score is now Silver Eagles 230, Golden Lions 190, but the Lions have a penalty shot. There is currently 10 minutes left in the match.}
(Wow! Lock's shot goes wide.)
{A pity, that, he had Doyle completely fooled there}
(The score remains unchanged as the Silver Eagles begin their attack on the Golden Lions' hoops. Frange decides to go alone he performs a strong brake sending Lock grasping for air. He then passes the quaffle backwards to Doyle, who passes the quaffle to Moody. Moody performs a Wollongong shimmy to bypass Prewett before relinquishing the quaffle to Frange once more. Madam Hooch calls a blagging foul on Lisa Ryan, as she pulled on Weasley's broom.)
{A pity, the Silver Eagles had almost broken through the Golden Lions' defense.}
(Beater Lowe joins the snitch chasing field, as clearly the Silver Eagles were a little spooked by Weasley there. Prewett takes the free shot by sending it backwards to Lock. The Golden Lions slow down the game once more, and the Silver Eagles are not looking to press.)
{It would appear both teams have decided that the last 7 minutes will be all about the snitch}
...
*Beep Beep Beep*
(And with that the game is over. The Silver Eagles triumphed over the Golden Lions 230 to 210.)
{It was an ugly last 5 minutes for the Silver Eagles, as they committed multiple blagging fouls on Weasley to ensure that he could not catch the snitch.}
(The Man of the Match has just been announced, and it goes to Silver Eagles beater Colin Harte.)
{No doubt about it, with 14 bludger hits, more than the rest of the field combined, he deserves to be Man of the Match. He forced the Golden Lions out of their game plan early in the match when his bludger broke the arm of 3rd year debutante Jeffrey Jackson.}
(With the end of the match, Ravenclaw gets 63 house points, and Gryffindor gets 27 house points.*)
*Author's note total points divided by 4 for the winners, and total points divided by 8 for the losers. Plus 5 points for man of the match.
