The lone Alpha

Chapter 20: Chapter 20: The Offer

Shirley gazed thoughtfully at the Wayne seated before her, wondering if she'd have to drastically tweak her plans for him.

"Well it seems you probably have that aspect covered" She smiled as she relaxed into her seat, leisurely sipping her wine.

"Is that all you brought me here for?" Daniel inquired, wondering why he was initially wary of the woman. Her sexual appeal was high and she was highly seductive but aside that she didn't seem to be of much threat.

"No, that was merely the appetizer." She chuckled. She gazed deeply at him, gauging his reaction to her next words. "Blood core"

Daniel'e eyes widened slightly before narrowing dangerously. "I'm not interested"

"Seems you're aware of it at least" Shirley smiled, a hint of mischief in her eyes. "Then you know why it is so important right?"

"I'm in seclusion and I'm not particularly interested in leaving it" He responded coldly.

"Hmm…you were in seclusion. Your activities of the previous night hardly justify your solitude anymore "She said, giving him a complex gaze. "Shifters are talking, rumours are surfacing but everyone collectively agrees you're back in the picture."

"They can think what they want, it's no business of mine and neither are you" Daniel scoffed in annoyance.

"The decisions of the Circle on the matter would be outside of what you want. You more than anyone should be familiar with the rules." She said slowly, her fingers trailing the rims of her glass. "You should be very clear what statement you made after leaving that cave."

Daniel turned silent in thought. He was well aware of what he should and shouldn't do, after all he was the one that set the conditions.

"It's not necessarily a bad thing you know"

Her words broke through his chain of thoughts and he couldn't help but gaze deeply at her.

"You're well aware we're in a state of war…it's about time you stepped up as the youngest and arguably the potentially most powerful Wayne" She gazed at him with a solemn expression, her eyes expressing more than her words.

Daniel let out a deep sigh after a few moments of contemplation. He would be decieving himself if he said he didn't understand what she was getting at. It was long overdue for him to return to the fold but his status granted him that priviledge…a priviledge many scorned. He couldn't stay in solitude forever given the times…but he would have preferred being away from it for a while longer.

"I'd like to make you an offer Mr. Wayne" She said slowly, her keen eyes noticing the sway in his emotions.

Daniel's eyes sharpened in response to her words. His relaxed posture unconsciously tensed.

"I want you to join my pack. Win me the blood core a few months from now and I guarantee you peace till that time…not even the Circle would have reasons to bother you." She said confidently, her figure exuding boundless charm and confidence.

Daniel gazed solemnly at her. It was indeed quite boastful to phrase matters related to the Circle that way. They represented the height of power on this planet, boasting not just immense strength but also authority. Defying them was equivalent to death or exile…and death was the far better option.

Still…there are always exceptions to everything…to a degree and the Wayne family is one such exception.

Daniel stared silently at her for several moments before a small smile spread on his face. One so abrupt it caught her off guard.

"You really underestimate us don't you?" Daniel shook his head, relaxing back into his seat.

Shirley raised an eyebrow in surprise, clearly taken aback.

"I don't have a problem with matters from the Circle. I'm simply bothered my peace would be disturbed." He said leisurely. "I'm a Wayne and not just any Wayne either. Unless I go rogue, the Circle has no reason to rule against me. They'd simply make my life a little harder is all" He chuckled, gulping the last of his wine.

"You don't seem to understand Mr…"

"No I think you don't understand." Daniel abruptly cut her off. "The Wayne family isn't very active on this planet is why you might not be aware why we possess such prestige. My parents alone are one of the strongest alphas in existence, that alone is sufficient weight"

An invisible aura slowly began to permeate the room, one independent of personal strength or level. It was one inherent in his bones, the pride of a Wayne.

"My siblings are one of the youngest alphas and possess terrifying strength without even mentioning their packs. My family possesses enough wealth to rival several top families combined and I'm not even talking measly Earth currency."

"My family has means beyond what you know Miss Shirley. I have no need to join a rouge pack."Daniel said as a matter of fact, the aura around him spreading an ethereal pressure around the room.

"Rogue pack"A cold voice tore through the pressure like hot knife through butter, descending with its own pressure born of pure strength.

The pressure originated from the seemingly absent yet present man behind Shirley. His eyes glowed a dangerous red from behind a pair of glasses. A feral aura radiated from him, one intent on ripping a prey to pieces.

"Enough" Shirley said softly. The threatening aura abruptly vanished at her words, the man returning to blend with his environment like the earlier feral pressure had nothing to do with him.

Daniel scoffed in amusement and slowly stood amidst their gazes.

"I think it's about time I took my leave, hope we don't meet again miss Shirley" He said in a matter of finality as he strode out of the room.

Shirley merely watched him leave without uttering a single word. It wasn't until the door shut close with a bang that her aura changed.

Her calm eyes burned a fiery red and the glasses in the room abruptly shattered from the raw and powerful pressure, spraying wine all over the table.

"That brat" A smile tugged at her lips but her eyes glowed with malice and murder.

"Should I finish him off mistress" The man behind her uttered coldly, like it was but a mere inconvenience at most to deal with him.

"Oh how I would like that…but no" She sighed to herself, her finger drawing traces in the air. "He's under that man's protection."

"I'm fairly confident in taking that man on." The man muttered with conviction.

Shirley slightly turned to gaze at him, her eyes swirling with emotion. She shook her head in amusement seeing him so serious. "Of course you are but there's more than just him to worry about. Even that boy with all his blusterous mouth is still quite strong, taking down an alpha, regardless of how weak, as a beta says a lot about his strength"

Shirley turned silent in thought, her mind churning with ideas.

"Well we simply can't just let him go right? Not after all you've done to make this

happen"

"Hehe of course not" She let out a low chuckle. "Spread the word to those lot. We'll proceed with that plan. Add a bit of chaos to his otherwise peaceful life."

"Ugh! I thought they were a last resort" The man had an exasperated expression on his face. Those guys were truly crazy and unhinged, if it were up to him he would have killed them off a long time ago.

"It's exactly their crazy that makes them useful. They were worth the investment." She let out a ghost of a smile. "Daniel Wayne…you will be mine eventually. It's only a matter of time but till then…have some fun."
