Chapter 15 - Riel, Outdoor Class, and Summons
Magic class time came again after the summon contract. Today is an outdoor class where students summon their summons, form parties of two students and two summons, and experience practical training.
Since they will be fighting real magical beasts, it could be quite dangerous.
However, the academy provides magical tools containing alarm magic and protect magic in case of danger, so when used in dangerous situations, a barrier that blocks the surroundings for 30 minutes is activated, and a professor on standby is contacted.
I put the magical tool I received in my pocket and summoned my summon.
“Let’s go, Baduk!”
“Whine…”
This guy is doing it again.
Come to think of it, the spotted dog I raised before being incarnated also showed subtle dissatisfaction when I called its name.
…Could it be that my naming sense isn’t good?
While waiting under a tree where I was supposed to meet Riel, I saw Riel summoning her summon, Freya, from afar.
When Riel with a bright face was walking towards me, there was a figure blocking her way.
That guy is definitely Johan Igraphil.
As the only son of Baron Igraphil, a minor noble, he is a character who appears as Allen’s close friend in the original story.
Well, even as a close friend, he couldn’t escape the fate of a male character in a harem story and became as significant as air in the latter half.
“Lady Ignis, do you have a moment?”
“……”
Riel’s bright expression instantly faded.
When Riel glanced at Johan, Johan said with a bright smile.
“I have something I want to ask of the interim class representative…”
That is a scene that also appeared in the original story.
Allen who was going to ask Riel to form a party.
But being surrounded by other female members, Allen couldn’t approach Riel easily, so Johan called Riel out using the pretext of class representative business to help Allen and Riel meet face to face.
In the original story, Riel, while being wary of Johan, obediently followed him, met Allen, and formed a party with him.
Oh no, I should stop this even now!
Just as I was thinking that and about to step forward.
“…Huh? Wait, Lady Ignis??”
“……”
Riel ignored Johan and passed by him, coming this way.
When our eyes met as I was about to go to Riel but stopped, Riel smiled broadly again.
“Sorry, someone I don’t know well just tried to talk to me.”
“Y-yeah.”
…Well, that’s understandable.
Riel doesn’t know Johan and has never had a conversation with him, so it’s a bit awkward when he suddenly approaches her.
I deliberately ignored Johan who was staring at us with a blank face from afar and joined Riel.
“Woof!”
“Meow~”
Baduk also barked happily, wagging its tail when it saw Freya.
Freya meowed in response.
Come to think of it, these two had already met yesterday.
As the two summons started playing with each other, my gaze suddenly turned to Riel again.
Then I realized.
Riel was different in some way.
“Riel, did you change your hairstyle?”
“…You noticed?”
Riel’s hair, which was always roughly combed down.
But now, Riel’s hair had light curls at the ends, showing a somewhat stylish appearance.
“Phyllis did it for me!”
“Phyllis did?”
“Yes, Phyllis used to style my hair often when I was young.”
Riel’s personal maid went on a brief errand to another territory and ‘coincidentally’ had her health deteriorate, causing her to quit her maid job.
A new personal maid should have been appointed immediately, but Riel adamantly refused to have a maid dispatched from the duke’s family.
But I was worried because there would be many inconveniences without a personal maid.
“Then I will take care of Lady Riel as well.”
Phyllis said that, so for now, Phyllis temporarily took care of Riel as well.
Since the dormitories are close, and I don’t really have much to ask of Phyllis except for meals and preparing for the academy, I didn’t mind.
Rather, when I realized that it took Phyllis less than a minute to commute between me and Riel, I almost spilled my tea without realizing it.
How on earth did she do that…?
“It was fine before, but I think the current hairstyle also suits you well.”
“Right?”
Riel smiled broadly, looking pleased.
Oh really, it’s hard to calm my heart every time she smiles.
Maybe it’s because she rarely smiled in the original story, and the illustrations the author uploaded all had gloomy expressions.
“Today, we have to use magic in a practical situation, right?”
“That’s right, will you be okay?”
I should be fine since I’ve used it a few times in the duel with Allen, and I’ve used it when hunting magical beasts with the princesses in my northern homeland, but Riel has never used magic in a practical situation.
…Ugh, some bad memories from the magical beast hunting at my homeland…
“…Yes, I’ll be fine.”
Riel moved her magical power to create flames about the size of a finger joint at the tips of her five fingers on her right hand.
Flame bullet, a basic attack magic. It’s a flame magic that can be used without incantation after learning magic to some extent.
Though small in size, its damage, which causes a small explosion upon impact, is not negligible.
“I have you, and we have Freya and our Baduk.”
“Meow~”
“Woof!”
Riel smiled broadly at my words and the two summons responding from below.
From afar, the professor sent a signal to gather, so we went that way.
“Everyone has gathered.”
The surroundings were filled with students paired in twos, and summons gathered following their owners.
Wow, seeing so many summons gathered in reality is quite a spectacle.
In the original story, only the main characters’ summons were mentioned, so I couldn’t imagine such a scene.
“Properly, there are a total of 17 teams. Then I’ll start the explanation.”
There are 35 students per class, and normally when forming teams of 2, one student is left out.
The remaining one is supposed to form a team with the professor and assist other students.
However, in the original story, Kyo Wentos left the academy so that didn’t happen, and here, Liliana is on disciplinary probation, so that won’t happen either.
It’s not really relevant, but since the summoning itself is included in the academy’s curriculum, Liliana would have performed the summoning ceremony separately within the baron’s family despite being on disciplinary probation.
I remember that Liliana’s summon in the original story was a blue hawk.
“Time is until sunset! You’re free to hunt any target within the area! Different scores will be given according to your achievements!”
The magical beasts in the outdoor class area were at a difficulty level that any decent academy student could hunt.
Of course, an emergency situation could occur.
Sometimes, strong magical beasts from outside the area invade this area.
There’s an alarm barrier set up by the academy director for that, but as a precaution, magical tools for emergencies were distributed to students, saying it doesn’t hurt to be careful.
“In 5 minutes, each team will depart! That’s all!”
During the waiting time, I look around.
…I saw Allen in the distance.
Allen, who had formed a party with Riel in the original story, was forming a party with another girl.
She was definitely a girl who appeared as a sub-heroine in the original story.
Emilia Silbright.
She’s a commoner girl with silver hair that’s slightly darker than Allen’s but similar.
Wearing a large hat that completely covers her head, she is actually a wolf demi-human, hiding her identity and attending the academy.
However, after half a year of entering the academy, her identity is discovered by Allen, and she begins to get involved with him as he turns a blind eye and helps keep her secret.
Does that mean it’s still before her identity is discovered at this point in time?
“Um… Allen?, Is it really okay to form a party with someone like me? There are plenty of people who would switch…”
“No… it’s really okay?”
It seems like two people who were already left out from parties elsewhere formed a party together.
Well, it’s natural given that they haven’t become close at this point in time.
By her side, a valiant wolf summon with silver fur was present.
…Without realizing it, I looked at Baduk beside me.
“Whine~?”
…Hmm.
It’s okay, our Baduk is ahead in cuteness.
“Kyo, we should get going soon.”
“Right.”
As it was time to enter the practice area, Riel and I moved with our summons.
Allen, who was bewildered by the silver-haired girl who kept apologizing to him, stared at her.
Allen hadn’t talked much with this girl.
Though they were in the same class, she didn’t try to get along with others well, and often went around alone like a lone wolf.
But after talking with her a few times, she seemed to be a girl with good manners and a kind nature.
As Allen was thinking this, someone approached him.
Allen’s friend, Johan Igraphil.
His expression was filled with apology.
“I’m sorry, Allen. I tried to arrange a situation somehow…”
“No, I’m thankful just for you trying to help as a friend.”
Johan apologized to Allen as if he was ashamed.
He tried to approach Riel to give Allen a chance to form a party with her by arranging a place for them to be alone, but he didn’t expect her to ignore him and just leave.
And sure enough, she went and formed a party with Kyo Wentos, whom Allen cares so much about.
For Johan, it was nothing short of a major failure.
“…Well, there will be another opportunity someday.”
Though he told Johan it was okay, Allen looked at Riel’s departing figure with a voice filled with regret.
Beside her, Kyo Wentos’s black hair was visible.
‘That should have been my place…’
Black emotions began to grow and take root in Allen Ludwig’s heart.
Allen Ludwig’s light fairy summon was staring intently at him.
