The Massacre Accross All Cosmos

Chapter 20: Chapter 33 - The Small Town

Chapter 33 – The Small Town

Xiao Bai Tian stood on a narrow, dusty, and silent street in a small town that seemed unchanged by time. His steps were light, making no sound on the hardened, dust-covered ground. He observed the scene unfolding ahead, showing no sign of concern.

At the end of the winding road, shouts began to echo, followed by the appearance of a woman being chased. She seemed cornered, surrounded by several masked individuals. They moved swiftly, blocking her escape, their synchronized footsteps only heightening the tension in the air.

The woman ran with determination, her every movement filled with resolve. Her simple-colored clothing swayed with each step, and her long, silk-like hair fluttered in the wind. Her delicate face showed worry, yet there was an undeniable strength in her posture. Though she appeared trapped, she refused to display fear.

Xiao Bai Tian's gaze remained calm, though his body subtly loosened its tension. The surroundings began to shift—the once-quiet streets now filled with the rhythmic pounding of footsteps from those pursuing the woman. In the distance, an old wooden house stood enclosed by the town's walls, further limiting her escape routes.

The woman halted for a brief moment, panting, realizing that fleeing was no longer an option. In that instant, her eyes met Xiao Bai Tian's, concealed beneath a black cloth. His hidden gaze carried an unfathomable depth, as if seeing beyond the ordinary world. Without understanding why, she felt an unexpected sense of tranquility. There was something about this man—an indescribable force emanating from him.

At that moment, one of her pursuers lunged forward to attack. However, in a flash, Xiao Bai Tian moved, raising his hand with a fluid yet decisive motion. The high-speed assault was stopped effortlessly, and in an instant, the masked attacker was flung aside like a mere pebble struck by a powerful force. The others, witnessing this, immediately halted, their faces reflecting shock and fear at this unexpected display of power.

The woman was stunned, at a loss for words. In her confusion, her body nearly gave way, but before she could fall, the man who had just saved her moved with astonishing speed, closing the distance between them. There was a calmness in every step he took, an air of absolute control, as if nothing could ever hinder him. He now stood before her.

"Who are you?" the woman finally spoke, her voice soft yet carrying deep astonishment. She knew this man was no ordinary person. The strength displayed in that single motion was enough to overwhelm multiple opponents at once.

Xiao Bai Tian remained silent, merely lifting his brow slightly as if suggesting she remain calm. Though he did not utter a word, the woman felt reassured, as if she had connected to an immense energy emanating from him.

"Do not be afraid," Xiao Bai Tian finally spoke, his voice gentle yet firm, ignoring her question. "You will not be harmed."

With his eyes still covered, Xiao Bai Tian began to turn away, his steps slow and unhurried, leaving behind the lingering tension that had filled the air. The woman watched him, her confusion deepening. She did not know why this man had appeared at the right moment, but gratitude and relief welled up in her heart.

Amid the narrow, dusty streets of the small town, simple houses stood close together in tight rows. The not-so-wide roads, lined with small trees, added to the town's tranquil atmosphere. Though it appeared old-fashioned, there was a sense of warmth that flowed through the place.

Xiao Bai Tian and the woman he had just saved walked together toward a quieter, more secluded street, away from the commotion. There was no loud noise—only their footsteps blending into the town's silence. Eventually, they arrived at a modest house, surrounded by an aged wooden fence. Though the gate looked worn, the well-maintained wooden door suggested care and attention. Wild plants grew around the small yard, adding a touch of untamed beauty.

In front of the house, the woman stopped and turned to Xiao Bai Tian. "This is my home," she said with a hint of unease. "I moved here not long ago."

Xiao Bai Tian took a moment to observe his surroundings, carefully examining every corner of the house and the open yard. Though simple, the place exuded a sense of comfort, as if untouched by the chaos of the outside world. His gaze settled on the slightly ajar door, waiting for the woman to step inside first.

"Thank you for saving me," the

Xiao Bai Tian sat calmly on a sturdy wooden chair. This house, though simple, provided the peace he desperately needed after years of being trapped in chaos. Outside, the world continued to turn, filled with battles, pursuits, and unending tension. But here, within these walls, the air felt lighter, as if all the burdens of the outside world could be released, even if only for a moment. This was the tranquility he had long yearned for—something that had become so foreign to him after enduring countless battles and tragedies.

Throughout his long journey, the tension had never subsided. Enemies and dangers lurked at every step. But in this house, there was only peace, far from anything that could disturb his thoughts. Xiao Bai Tian closed his eyes for a moment, letting the calmness flow through him. For once, he felt like he could breathe freely, away from the memories of his late mother.

At that moment, the guilt that had haunted him resurfaced, but he pushed it away. His mother was gone, and even though he had avenged her by destroying the Qing Yun Sect, the sense of loss remained. He could not change the past, but now he knew one thing—he needed this peace. To heal the wounds within him, to give himself space, to restore his weary spirit.

He thought that perhaps this tranquility could help him find a new direction, a path less tainted by violence. But just as he began to embrace this peace, his original purpose resurfaced in his mind. A purpose he might not have realized before, yet now seemed so clear—to buy a house, to find a sliver of peace in a world riddled with chaos. Nothing else mattered. There was no grand ambition beyond the simple desire for a quiet place, far from endless battles.

Without wasting any more time, Xiao Bai Tian looked at Lian Zhi, who sat across from him, his gaze filled with quiet contemplation and a hint of confusion. Even though he had found this house, there was still an emptiness within him that needed to be filled. But for now, this place provided something far more important than any great ambition—

"Do you know anyone looking to sell their house in this town?" Xiao Bai Tian finally asked, his voice low yet firm. He was in no hurry; he merely wished to linger in this atmosphere a little longer.

Lian Zhi, who had been sitting quietly, studied him with an unreadable expression. However, she seemed to understand what he was asking. After a few seconds, she placed her still-warm teacup down and replied, "Hmm, houses in this town are rarely sold, and this one was no exception. I only got it because the owner needed medicinal ingredients."

Those words echoed in Xiao Bai Tian's mind. Medicinal ingredients? Such a simple exchange for something as valuable as peace. Even so, her answer was enough to spark his curiosity.

"Someone needed medicinal ingredients?" he thought, his eyes gleaming with fast-turning thoughts. But he held back from asking further. Now was not the time for such discussions. "I can think about that later," he told himself, nodding slightly.

Without further expression, Xiao Bai Tian gazed outside the house, letting the tranquility seep deeper into him. His arms crossed over his chest, and he felt as though the weight on his shoulders had vanished, lifted by the peace surrounding him. There was nothing to force. Nothing to overthink.

Lian Zhi observed Xiao Bai Tian with the same curiosity. "Of course, if you wish to stay longer, this house is quite comfortable," she said, offering a small gesture of reassurance. "I know it's small, but at the very least, it can offer a moment of peace."

Xiao Bai Tian nodded again, this time more deeply. He realized that this house, though modest, could provide the solace he desperately needed. No more chaos to face, no enemies lurking—only the stillness of this quiet refuge.

"Thank you," he replied softly, his words carrying a depth of meaning. "I will stay here for a while."

Lian Zhi gave a faint smile, as if she understood what he sought. Though she did not fully grasp why this man was searching for peace, she knew that sometimes, peace was the hardest thing to find in a world filled with turmoil and ambition.

With that, Xiao Bai Tian rose from his seat and walked toward the door. Outside, a gentle breeze blew, carrying the scent of damp earth and blooming flowers along the narrow streets. Something so simple, yet so meaningful to him at this moment. He gazed at the small town before him with empty eyes, but he did not feel rushed. For the first time in a long while, he could enjoy the freedom of not being in a hurry.

At that moment, Lian Zhi stepped beside him and spoke softly, "If you ever feel lonely or need anything, I'll always be here. This town may be small, but there are many things to be discovered if you know where to look."

Xiao Bai Tian merely nodded, without many words. He knew that for now, peace was his answer. Nothing else mattered more.

He stepped outside the house and looked up at the vast blue sky above. The silence filled every corner of his mind and heart. There was nothing he needed more at this moment than peace. Without a clear goal, without the desire to chase after something greater—only the deep stillness that allowed his soul to rest.
