Chapter 10
Mana Design, as its name suggests, is a subject that teaches how to 'design' magic circles with mana as the 'material'.
Originally, it's a subject for new students who are not yet proficient in magic circles.
However, the students sitting in Primus's vast auditorium are elites who have already walked the path of magic studies for several years.
They learned about the components and formation processes of magic circles long ago.
Therefore, teaching the content from textbooks is meaningless.
Explaining again the concepts firmly rooted in the students' minds would yield nothing new.
Thus, Leta chose.
Instead of repeating the basics, reestablishing the basics.
"Wind magic and earth magic are completely different in their attributes. But that doesn't necessarily mean they can't complement each other."
She reestablishes the foundation of all the students' thoughts and reasoning, and shows the ultimate level they should reach.
It was a choice to simultaneously show the advanced class students Leta's teaching method and class objectives.
"For example, vibration, which can be considered the medium of each magic. The atmospheric vibration to create a storm and the earth vibration to create an earthquake─"
-Swish.
Only the central diagram was extracted and enlarged from the two magic circles floating in the air.
Then, a small index finger slowly cutting through the air.
"Like this, they have in common that they start from one point and spread to the surroundings. On the other hand, the differences can be found in their intensity and range."
Two types of magic, originally thought to have their origins and principles at opposite extremes, are contrasted.
Then came the calm voice.
"Earth magic increased its intensity to penetrate the solid ground, while wind magic widened its range to spread in the vast atmosphere."
But, do we really have to give up either intensity or range?
The girl, who was shaking the concept that could be called the starting point of magic studies, said this and neatly combined the core of the two types of magic.
What appeared was a magic circle similar to the high-level magic called 'Meteor'.
However, its destructive power seemed different from the start.
Even without activating the magic circle, one could gauge its destructive power.
Magic that reached the level of not just dropping a huge rock, but also spreading the explosive pressure of the atmosphere and the frictional heat of the meteor.
"Huh..."
Someone among the students drew in a sharp breath at the sight that shook common sense.
The basics of magic studies, which had somehow become a fixed idea for the students, were freely transformed to pursue supreme power and efficiency.
What they couldn't see because they had been trapped in the conceptual framework they had created for themselves until now.
What they couldn't reach because they didn't try to surpass the framework of magic studies they had established themselves.
"This is the 'Mana Design' I will teach from now on."
Among the things the girl was showing, there wasn't a single element that the students didn't know.
They were all diagrams they knew and principles they understood.
Only because they hadn't thought to use them in the same way as the girl.
"How on earth..."
Without realizing it, they sighed as the concepts they had been certain were absolute and unchanging crumbled away.
At the same time, a new horizon opened.
The possibility that the girl had just shown spread to all the magic that the students had learned so far.
Imaginations of deconstructing and combining magic circles to turn fantasy into reality continued endlessly.
Of course, it's not yet known whether these combinations are actually possible, but they were worth trying.
After all, the person who had tried and succeeded in doing what no one had ever attempted before was standing right there with the title of professor.
Mana Design.
This subject, which was originally the foundation of magic studies, now overturned what was taken for granted and neatly erased the limits of possibility.
The flow of time, which had lost its role at some point, in a class that simply denied common sense.
All the students in the auditorium, as if enchanted by something, looked only at the girl and engraved her elegant voice in their minds.
And so, how much time had passed?
"Hmm, we have some time left."
Leta, realizing that all the content she had prepared was finished, slowly raised her head.
What she faced were eyes full of clear enthusiasm, without exception.
It seemed unreasonable to end the class like this.
She felt she should show at least one more thing to satisfy the students' expectant gazes.
Therefore, Leta once again moved mana and began to draw a magic circle in the air.
Although it wasn't part of the regular curriculum, she wanted to show that this was also possible.
"If we define magic simply, it's the manifestation of will. Magic is turning unrealistic things into realistic ones using mana as a medium."
The grand magic circle began with an array of geometric shapes.
A hexagon connecting circles and pentagrams arranged uniformly without a single error followed.
"Then, is it impossible for magic to be not the will to cause a certain phenomenon, but just the will to use more powerful magic?"
Next came the turn of the diagrams firmly placed at the edges of the magic circle, making the flow of mana smooth.
Lines stretching from the center towards the periphery at regular intervals had somehow formed a huge star.
In other words, this meant that the caster's mana was being drawn relentlessly towards the center of the magic circle.
The absorbed mana would then flow out to the periphery through four-branched circles, accelerating the flow of mana.
"The answer is 'No'. Even a personal will to simply enhance the power and effect of magic can become magic."
The key was another small magic circle drawn at the center of the magic circle.
Since the efficiency of mana was drastically increased by the numerous diagrams and formulas surrounding it.
Whatever magic circle was drawn in, it would emit power beyond imagination.
A simple wind magic at the level of a breeze would become a storm that could swallow a village.
A basic flame magic at the level of a candle flame would transform into a massive conflagration that could burn an entire forest and more.
"I call this enhancement magic. Of course, it requires preparation, and the amount of mana consumed is enormous, but..."
I believe it will certainly play its role at crucial moments.
The girl, who presented another new concept unknown to the students - magic for magic - left the auditorium with those words.
And, less than 10 seconds later, she came back.
Then, with a look as if she was checking the students' reactions, she carefully opened her mouth and.
"I'm currently recruiting an assistant... If anyone's interested, please come to the faculty office. I'll make sure to reward you properly."
She said she was looking for someone to help with her classes.
Only after adding that she would also teach many interesting things did the sound of small footsteps completely leave the auditorium.
Only then realizing that Leta's lecture had ended, the students buzzed as they recollected everything they had seen and heard.
Although it was a lecture that lasted about an hour, not a short time, they never felt bored as it passed in the blink of an eye.
The conclusion reached by the students, who were still noisy until just before the next class began, was all the same.
Everyone who attended the class acknowledged that signing up for the new professor's class was absolutely not in vain.
Above all, it was Leta who first showed them that there were various possibilities even on the path the students had already traveled.
"That magic the professor showed at the end. Does anyone remember it?"
"I should apply to be an assistant."
The students who felt joy in learning magic couldn't forget the memory of the first class for quite a long time.
This was the reason another paper bomb occurred in Leta Yurt's faculty office.
"Are all these... students who want to become assistants..."
Faced with the enormous amount of application documents that seemed impossible to read through, the possibility of a hidden camera show floated into Leta's mind.
This was followed by the delusion that all of this might actually be the ancient dragon's Truman Show.
While Leta currently had several problems like this, the biggest problem was that Princess Irina was also on the list of assistant applicants.
One way or another, Leta had committed an unspeakable rudeness to Princess Irina.
Ignoring the hand extended first by Princess Irina was not an option from the start.
'There's magic, there are dragons. Why isn't there a concept of extenuating circumstances...'
In the end, one of the two assistants was decided to be Princess Irina.
If it became known that the reason for choosing the princess as an assistant was simply personal circumstances, it would cause a stir, but there was no other way.
'Still, she's a kind child. If I explain carefully, she'll understand.'
For now, after becoming closer to Princess Irina.
She planned to reveal the secrets about the attack on the train to Primus and ask for forgiveness.
But why.
"Um, Professor. I'm sorry about last time."
-Bow.
"...?"
Why on earth is Princess Irina apologizing first?
Why is someone who is a princess looking out for someone who is merely a count's daughter?
"I will make sure not to waste the opportunity you've given me, Professor. Definitely."
"Ah, yes..."
Seeing Princess Irina clench her fist in determination, Leta finally fell into a state of confusion.
Almost simultaneously, Isabel, who walked into Leta's faculty office, fell into a state of fear upon unexpectedly reuniting with the princess.
"I-I'll come back later..."
