The Multiversal Travel System

My name is Alfredo, and this is Project X. Well, leaving the jokes aside, my real name is Luciano. I am a normal person with a normal life and a job that I enjoyed, living happily with my family. Today, my siblings and I had gone out to eat at our favorite restaurant to celebrate that my sister had finally found the job she had been searching for so long. It was an achievement worth celebrating.

After eating with my siblings, we were on our way home. After all, we shared an apartment since splitting the rent among three was much cheaper—we weren't the children of Elon Musk, after all.

Now, here we are, waiting for the pedestrian light to turn green so we can cross when my sister suddenly asks:

"Luciano, did you like the food? I thought the meat was a bit bland today."

"Honestly, sis, I felt the same. The meat was also a bit dry. What about you, bro? What did you think?"

"Yeah, it was quite dry, but we don't have enough money to afford something better," he said with a sad expression.

"Don't worry. With our sister's new job and my promotion, we'll be able to afford better food soon. Look, the light is green. Let's cross."

Suddenly, I hear an explosion. Looking up, I see large pieces of a collapsing building falling towards us. Out of pure instinct, I push my siblings away to save them, but I wasn't as lucky.

When the dust settles, I am trapped under several heavy chunks of debris, my body crushed.

"Damn, this hurts like hell," I mutter, but then I hear footsteps. Turning my head, I see my siblings standing there, tears streaming down their faces. My sister, sobbing, tells me, "Don't worry, we called an ambulance. They will help you."

I chuckle weakly. "That's impossible, sis. Look at me. Most of my body is crushed. There's no way I'll survive. Even if I don't want to die, I would do it all over again to save you both." As I speak, a large pool of blood spreads beneath me.

"Don't worry. I know you two will make it through this because I know how strong you are. So, give it your best effort." With those final words, I start feeling colder and sleepier. My eyes begin to close. The last thing I hear is my siblings' cries before everything fades to darkness.

Suddenly, a glowing orb appears before me. I ask, "Who are you?" The orb of light responds, "I am a god, and I have chosen you to reincarnate in another world."

The void disappears, and we are now in a game-like hall. Two machines appear before me, and the god speaks again: "The machine on the right determines the world you will go to, and the one on the left will grant you a power. Now, don't waste my precious time. Pull the levers to continue your pitiful life."

I stand still, thinking, "This being… just because it's a god, it thinks it has the right to belittle others?" It seems like it can't read my mind—good.

"Alright, let's start," I say, approaching the right machine to see which world I will be reincarnated in. I pull the lever, and it spins rapidly, displaying various names: Naruto, DanMachi, Bleach… even Boku no Pico. That last one makes my hair stand on end.

The machine slows down, and finally, the result appears: High School DxD.

"Damn, just my luck. A world where the protagonist is a pervert, and the main heroine is a spoiled girl who doesn't care if someone dies as long as it benefits her," I think, a bit depressed. "Well, at least there are some pleasant characters like Serafall, with her childlike personality that always made me laugh in the anime."

"Alright, let's see what power I get." I pull the lever of the other machine, hoping for something super overpowered, like matter manipulation or space manipulation.

Suddenly, a voice echoes in my head:

The system suddenly stops. Turning around, I see the glowing orb now surrounded by a dark aura. It speaks, "I stopped the system's initialization. I will kill you now. With that power, you could become a problem for me in the future."

Without thinking, I start running.

"Damn, I need to hold on until the system repairs itself!"

[Due to the interference, the system's ultimate protection protocol has been activated. For one minute, all damage will be nullified.]

[The system has detected an imminent threat and will now commence travel to the predetermined world. Time remaining: 0:45 seconds.]

The divine being starts launching energy blasts at me, but they have no effect. "So, the system's defense is in place," it growls. "Then I'll have to use that attack."

It begins gathering a massive amount of energy.

[Time remaining: 0:12 seconds.]

"Come on, just a little more," I say, watching the countdown.

Suddenly, a sharp pain overtakes me, and I cough up blood. The divine being sneers, "That attack used a part of my soul to bypass the system's defense and land a fatal blow. But it doesn't matter—when you arrive in that world, you'll die from your wounds."

A blinding white light surrounds me, and I vanish.
