The Multiverse Hunter

Chapter 318: Chapter 318

'The history of this continent is very interesting. I'll have to ask Seraphina about all of this. She's a prehistoric dinosaur after all…', Ali thought, looking down at the scared priest.

"So why is a priest gambling in the poorest territories of the kingdom? Shouldn't you be preaching in big cities?", Ali asked.

The priest winced as Ali hit the nail on the head. "Well, I was on the losing side of the politics in the capital, and my punishment was getting sent here with no coin. But as long as the true flame is with me, I am grateful for it all…", he smiled at the end, his spirit and faith still strong.

"Well, priest, follow me. I'm going down into the kobold caves. When we're finished, I'll decide what happens to you", Ali said, turning around and walking to the hole.

The priest opened his eyes wide and reluctantly followed, but then Ali stopped suddenly.

"You wait for me at the edge of the hole, and don't look back…", Ali's words were cold as he walked past the priest. The priest followed Ali's words with fear in his heart and walked straight to the hole, his heart beating fast.

Meanwhile, behind, Ali crouched next to the two corpses and an empty barrel appeared next to him. He picked up the bald man's corpse and held his neck at the opening of the plastic barrel meant to contain water.

Ali's right hand flashed past the corpse's neck, which slit clean open, and his blood, which was still warm, gushed out into the barrel. He waited until the corpse was dry of blood before doing the same thing to the archer.

He then sent the barrel full of four litres of blood to his inventory. 'A couple of litres lost from the headshots. Look at me, milking corpses of blood for a vampire. Paradise has really turned my life upside down. It's what I signed up for after all.' Ali looked back at his conversation with Veska, where he had been promised fun, and so far, Veska had delivered on his words.

He looked down and picked up the armour from both men and their weapons. The sword and bow with a quiver of arrows weren't anything special, but he might as well pick up free loot.

Ali walked beside the priest and dropped the loot on the edge of the hole, scaring the priest who still didn't dare turn around. Ali looked up and signalled with his finger at his dragons, who continued to circle the area high up in the air.

Ali grabbed the priest's robe from the back and jumped down, the priest screaming his lungs out while hugging his staff tightly.

BANG

Ali landed on his two feet, holding the priest off the ground with one arm. "Damn, getting physically stronger is such a good feeling," he thought, dropping the priest on the ground.

AAAAAAAAAH

The priest screamed as he found himself sitting on top of a dead kobold and surrounded by dozens of corpses all around him. It was like a nightmare come to life.

"OH HOLY FLAME, P-P-Protect ME, OH Holy Flame," he frantically started praying before Ali slapped the back of his head, taking him out of his frantic state.

"You're okay, you idiot. They're all dead. Stop crying or you'll join them," Ali warned. The priest slowly looked around him before jumping up to his feet and standing on ground that didn't have a dead kobold on it.

"How? What happened here?" the priest wondered aloud as he smelt the smoke escape the cave and fly out through the hole.

"I smoked them out. They suffocated. Now, you're going to grab anything of value and group it up in the centre while answering my questions. Understood?" Ali asked.

"I—Of course, of course," the priest ripped off a piece of his sleeve and wrapped it around his face, covering his mouth and nose from the smell and any diseases.

The two of them started walking around the large area underground, which was the centre at which the three cave entrances joined before going further down. They picked up any swords and armour that was worth anything along with anything on the kobolds that could be sold for profit.

"These swords could be sold for five bronze each in IronPeak", the priest commented, looking at the large pile of low-quality blades.

'IronPeak? That should be the viscount's city, if I remember, the one who oversees my lands and all the territory around it. He's at war right now away from his city.', Ali thought as he continued looting the dead kobolds.

"But how are there so many? Monsters shouldn't be allowed to breed this much before getting hunted down and their colonies destroyed. Has the adventurer's guild not sent anyone to these lands?", the priest said aloud.

"You said IronPeak, were you there?", Ali asked.

CLANG

A large metal sword hit the pile of metal from being thrown by Ali. "Yes, I lived there three months before moving down here. It's a large city built around the famous IronPeak fortress, the ancient fortress was the first fortress to be built in the south against the enemies south of the kingdom. The Viscount's family is a family of knights who trace all the way back to the time it was built. The city lives on trade, especially mined ores from the mountains in surrounding lands. It's a lively city, sir. You should visit sometime.", the priest replied.

"I will… So, priest, how do you heal people exactly? Is it similar to the magic of mages?", Ali asked, and the priest was surprised. 'This man, just who is he? He knows very little…', the priest thought.

"Well, the true flame answers my prayers, and its holy blessing travels through my body before it is released in incantations of healing. We do not use mana like the mages for their spells. The true flame will bestow its blessings differently on every person. I can heal flesh wounds and keep a man alive longer from a fatal blow. Many priests can regenerate a lost limb and bestow blessings on fighters, granting them greater speed or strength. Our holy knights of the church use such blessings to attain great power to defend the church and fight for the true flame.", the priest explained.

"I see, let's go down, there's nothing left here", Ali commanded, and the two passed over dozens of copses walking down the rough cave path littered with more corpses.

"Priest, do lords pay your people for special services?", Ali asked, and the priest stopped walking.

"What do you mean, sir?", the priest asked.

"You know what I mean, priest, bribes. Do they pay bribes for special services? Now, don't make me ask again…", Ali said with his cold eyes staring down the priest.

"Yes, yes, they do…In the big cities, if the priest has influence, then the lords will pay them to preach certain things to their people in the city, or they pay the high priest for certain blessings that only holy knights should be bestowed with, but coin is the devil in these lands…", the priest answered truthfully.

"Are you able to do such things?", Ali asked.

"I—I'm a discarded priest, sir. I have nowhere to preach and no place to live, let alone a temple or church…", the priest answered.

"Doesn't Obidos have a church?", Ali asked.

"Yes, but word from the capital to make sure I suffer has reached even Obidos, and the priests there make sure I don't take a step in there…", the priest answered.

Ali didn't say anything afterwards, and the two of them explored the deep caves. Half an hour later, of walking past kobolds, they reached a large underground room filled with kobolds ripped to pieces and a large makeshift bed surrounded by the bones of beasts.

'This is where the big one lived…', Ali walked around the room and found nothing until he looked behind the massive bed, where he found a pouch nearly half his size.

Ali pulled the large open and looked inside. He instantly pulled his head back from the rotten smell that hit his nose. It was truly disgusting…

The priest saw that and carefully approached, looking inside the pouch. "OH my god!! IS THAT?", the priest couldn't believe his eyes.

"What is that?", Ali asked, looking at the rotten wood in the shape of a human female with a glowing green crustal at the centre of the corpse. Its body smelled worse than any human corpse.

"It's a tree spirit. These things only live in the eleven kingdom's forests. They are sacred to those heathens and help the elves move through the forest better than anyone else on the continent. These things can control the trees and trap adventurers or have them walk into a beast's den unknowingly by manipulating the trees. That core is worth at least a gold coin", the priest said, excited as a gold coin was a fortune for most.

But Ali looked at it disappointed. 'I should have known from my wrist not sensing any Origin that there was nothing special here', Ali thought as he turned his nose away and took out the crystal from the rotten wood.

After that, the two returned to the large area under the hole, and Ali used the Force to lift all the metal out of the hole and throw them on the ground outside the hole. He then grabbed the priest and flew up out of the hole with him.

The priest was shocked seeing Ali's powers. "Who are you? Telekinesis is the power of vampires, but…" the priest looked up at the sun, which did nothing to Ali.

"You sure know a lot for a priest…Who were you in the capital?", Ali said as he looked up at the sky.

"I—I was a student of the archbishop, a priest who had his connection to the true flame and the ability to cast powerful incantations taken away from him all due to disagreeing with a high priest of the capital who had deep connections. I was only an orphan when the church took me in and named me Ignus, child blessed by the flames", the priest's aura changed, making him look like a confident hero rather than a frightened priest, as he raised his hand.

Ali watched the priest lift his hair off his forehead, and on his forehead was a burn scar glowing a soft white. Ali's eyes sharpened when his wrist started burning all of a sudden. A character with great Origin was found.
