The Peerless Ring

Chapter 59: Chapter 59. Little One

Just after midnight, Jaxon used that special ring to transport himself to the game world. At this moment, Jaxon was still in that forest. He had spent the entire day yesterday venturing deeper and deeper. However, since he needed to report to the county office, he didn't have much time to linger in the forest today. The thought of exploring the vastness of this forest would have to wait for another opportunity.

Jaxon began to make his way back. The deeper he went into the forest, the denser it became. The trees grew taller and larger, blocking out the sky and casting deep shadows. The undergrowth was thick and abundant, making it extremely difficult to navigate. Jaxon didn't have a compass, but fortunately, he had been mindful when he entered the forest yesterday. He had left marks on the tree trunks along the way, which helped him avoid getting lost.

Since he was in a hurry today and needed to go logging later, Jaxon avoided engaging with the wild beasts he encountered along the way. He only fought when he had no other choice. However, he noticed something strange. In the forest in front of the village, there were wild beasts infected with miasma, which turned them into more ferocious and bloodthirsty monsters. But in this forest behind the mountain, he only saw wild beasts, not a single monster. Although these wild beasts were dangerous to ordinary people, they were much more docile compared to monsters.

"Could it be that this place is some kind of blessed land?" Jaxon muttered to himself with a smile as he walked. Of course, he was only joking. Jaxon guessed that the forest in front of the village was designed for "players" to level up. That's why it had both wild beasts and monsters. The forest was large enough for players to level up in the early stages. This forest, on the other hand, was supposed to be abandoned and privately owned by the village, so there were no monsters arranged here.

Of course, these were just Jaxon's guesses.

"Smack!"

While Jaxon was hurrying along, something suddenly hit his head. He turned around and saw a snow-white creature standing on a branch, chattering at him and holding an unknown wild fruit. The creature looked like a cat but also resembled a fox. Its fur was whiter than snow, without a single impurity. When Jaxon looked at it, instead of being scared away, it looked back at him with a seemingly cheerful expression and threw the wild fruit at him again.

Clearly, the object that had hit Jaxon earlier was thrown by this little creature.

"Hey there, little one, you better scram," Jaxon said to the creature. "Fortunately, I'm in a hurry today; otherwise, you'd end up like your neighbors, dead by my sword."

As Jaxon spoke, he tried to dodge the wild fruit, but to his surprise, the fruit was much faster than he had anticipated. He failed to avoid it, and the fruit hit his head once again.

Jaxon was slightly taken aback but didn't pay much attention to it. Being hit by a wild fruit was painful, but it didn't cause significant harm.

The little creature, seeing Jaxon hit again, stood on its hind legs on the branch, raised its front legs, and lightly patted its chest. Its face displayed an exaggerated, human-like smile, much more pronounced than before.

Obviously, the creature was mocking Jaxon.

Seeing this, Jaxon bent down, picked up a wild fruit from the ground, and threw it back at the little creature.

However, despite its mocking behavior, the creature was quite agile. It easily jumped to another branch and continued to laugh at Jaxon.

"You little rascal, you're pretty quick," Jaxon said, not really bothered by the miss. He just wanted to warn the creature and drive it away.

Since Jaxon had to go logging today, he really didn't want to kill any wild beasts. Moreover, the creature was on a tree branch, and Jaxon didn't have any ranged attack skills, so he couldn't do anything to it.

After warning the creature, Jaxon turned around and left.

He thought the creature would leave after being warned, but to his surprise, as soon as he took two steps, he was hit again. Naturally, the culprit was still the little creature.

Indeed, when Jaxon turned around, the creature had moved from its previous tree to the nearest one to Jaxon, still looking at him with a cheerful expression. Annoyed, Jaxon picked up another wild fruit and threw it at the creature, but once again, he missed.

Frustrated but out of options, Jaxon could only turn around and continue walking, ignoring the creature.

However, the creature seemed to have taken a liking to Jaxon. It followed him wherever he went, and it wasn't just following; it kept throwing wild fruits at him. The term "attack" might be a bit strong, as the wild fruits didn't have much killing power. "Teasing" would be a more accurate description.

Jaxon had no idea where the creature was finding so many wild fruits or where it was hiding them. How could such a small body store so many fruits?

"What do you want from me?" Jaxon turned around, looking at the creature with a helpless expression.

He was genuinely out of ideas. He couldn't drive the creature away, and he couldn't hit it. His speed wasn't faster than the creature's. Even if he ran with all his might, he couldn't escape its pursuit.

Jaxon felt like a piece of meat on a chopping board, at the mercy of the creature.

Seeing Jaxon stop and look at it again, the creature stood up, clapped its front legs together as if applauding, and wore a human-like smile on its face, as if it was very happy playing some interesting game.

"Can you stop playing with me?" Jaxon pleaded, not caring whether the creature understood him or not.

The creature seemed to understand, tilted its head, looked at Jaxon, and then threw another wild fruit at him.

The message was clear: no way!

Out of options, Jaxon had no choice but to run.

Sure enough, the creature didn't let him go. Wild fruits rained down on him, hitting him each time.

Although the wild fruits didn't have much killing power, being hit by so many of them was still painful. Jaxon noticed that many parts of his body were turning red.

However, Jaxon had no other choice but to run. The creature was too agile to catch in this environment. As for scaring it away, Jaxon had already tried that, and it didn't work.

So, Jaxon could only keep running.
