Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Fodder
North Blue - Unnamed Deserted Island - Coastline.
As the sun slowly set, its golden rays fell upon the desolate and silent beach. A group of ecstatic young pirates had formed a circle around a metal case on the ground, dancing with joy, their faces beaming with undisguised pride.
"Hahahaha! Finally! It's finally my time to make a name for myself!" Bellamy the Hyena roared with laughter, his hands on his hips. His laughter was so exaggerated it seemed he wanted the entire North Blue to hear him. "Lord Doflamingo has finally acknowledged us!"
He proudly puffed out his chest. "Once we hand this case over to the contact, we can officially join the Donquixote Family!"
"Boss, this is a golden opportunity!" Sarquiss exclaimed, rubbing his hands together, his eyes shining as he practically drooled. "Once we join the Donquixote Family, we'll be able to do whatever we want in the North Blue!"
"Yeah! We can beat up anyone we don't like, whether they're Marines or pirates! When they see the Bellamy Pirates, they'll have to tuck their tails between their legs!"
"Hehehehe..." Hewitt added with a sinister grin, baring his sharp teeth. "Then we can live like the executives, with endless fame, women, and Berries!"
"Yeah, yeah! The good life is finally here for us, brothers!" another pirate, Libass, shouted excitedly, before suddenly pausing with a confused look. He scratched his head. "But... boss, Lord Trebol, who gave us the mission, didn't seem to mention what the contact person looks like."
The air instantly went silent. Bellamy's exaggerated laughter died in his throat, his expression freezing, his lip twitching slightly.
"...Huh?" Sarquiss, Hewitt, and Libass all turned to look at him, their expressions a mixture of naive confusion and doubt, as if to say, "Boss, you don't actually know, do you?"
A drop of cold sweat trickled down Bellamy's forehead. He swallowed hard but quickly regained his composure, puffing out his chest arrogantly. "Hmph! This is a deserted island! There's not a soul in sight! When the contact arrives, we'll recognize them instantly! Why ask such a stupid question?"
"Ooh! As expected of the boss, so thoughtful!" Sarquiss immediately started sucking up, his eyes narrowing into slits. "A simple mission like this can't possibly go wrong! The boss is amazing!"
"Yeah, yeah!" Hewitt and Libass chimed in. "The boss is so smart, no one else would have thought of that!"
Bellamy beamed, his nose practically in the air, his earlier nervousness completely gone. Just as he was about to continue boasting about his great wisdom, a hand gently tapped his shoulder.
Sarquiss pointed to the far end of the beach. "Uh... boss, I think someone's coming!"
Bellamy froze, then turned to look. In the twilight of the setting sun, a tall figure was slowly walking towards them. A white coat fluttered in the wind, and his silhouette grew clearer.
"Hahaha!" Bellamy was excited again, pounding his chest. "It must be the contact! See? My reasoning was spot on!"
The Bellamy Pirates erupted in cheers, as if their dream of joining the Donquixote Family was already a reality. They failed to notice the cold aura emanating from the approaching figure...
As they turned to look, a tall, slender figure walked towards them through the sunset's glow. A white "Justice" coat snapped in the sea breeze. His young, handsome face wore a faint, unreadable smile that was unsettlingly calm.
"A Marine?" Bellamy squinted, then sneered with disdain. "Tsk, so young and handsome. He must be just a rookie. Does a mere recruit dare to come to the Donquixote Family's territory alone?"
"Boss..." Sarquiss reminded him in a hesitant whisper. "But... why would he come alone?"
"What's there to be afraid of?" Bellamy waved his hand dismissively. "I am Bellamy the Hyena, user of the Spring-Spring Fruit! A mere Marine rookie is just here to get himself killed!"
He strode forward and pointed a finger at Roy's nose. "Hey! Marine brat, do you know whose territory this is? You've got some nerve coming here to die!"
Roy stopped, his gaze sweeping over them before landing meaningfully on the metal case. "The Donquixote Family? Since when did that little flamingo start recruiting trash like you? Is he that desperate now? Sending ignorant fools like you as cannon fodder?"
"What did you say?!" Bellamy's face instantly darkened, his eyes turning red as he roared, "You dare insult Lord Doflamingo?! You're dead!"
He stomped his foot, his legs instantly compressing like springs. The next second, he shot towards Roy like a cannonball, his fist whistling through the air, aimed straight at Roy's face! "Spring Snipe!"
But Roy didn't even bother to move.
Clang!
The spring-powered fist was effortlessly blocked by a single one of Roy's outstretched fingers, as if it had hit an indestructible iron wall, unable to advance an inch.
Bellamy froze, his eyes wide with horror. "How is that possible...?"
"With this little strength, you dare to call yourselves part of the Donquixote Family?" Roy shook his head slightly. "That flamingo is clever, though, sending a bunch of idiots like you to your deaths. It seems this is all you're worth in his eyes."
"You bastard, what did you...!"
Before Bellamy could finish cursing, Roy casually flicked his finger.
BOOM!
A terrifying impact exploded outwards. Bellamy was sent flying backward like a bullet, crashing into a distant rock wall. The rock shattered, and dust filled the air.
"BOSS!!" Sarquiss screamed in terror.
Roy slowly walked towards the metal case, his voice icy. "My property. Hand it over."
Sarquiss gritted his teeth and drew his sword, but his arm was trembling noticeably. "You've got to be kidding! This is a mission from Lord Doflamingo! You're just a Marine, on what grounds..."
"Mission?" Roy chuckled, a mocking smile on his lips. "Don't be ridiculous. This is just the 'life-debt' he's paying to save his own pathetic life. Sending fools like you to deliver it means he never intended for you to make it back alive."
Sarquiss froze, not yet comprehending, as Roy's figure appeared before him in an instant, like a ghost.
"Nani?!" Sarquiss's face twisted in horror, his pupils shrinking.
Roy raised his hand and brought it down in a swift, clean chop. "In any case, worthless pirates like you are just a waste of food."
Thump!
Sarquiss had no chance to react before he was sent flying, his neck snapping instantly, killing him on the spot.
"Sarquiss!" Hewitt and Libass were pale with fright. They turned and fled. But they had only taken two steps before they both felt a sharp pain in the back of their necks. Their vision went black, and they collapsed to the ground, never to rise again.
Roy retracted his hand, his expression calm. He lifted the metal case with one hand and slowly turned to face Bellamy, who was crawling out of the rubble. Bellamy was in agony, struggling to his feet, blood pouring from his mouth as he stared at Roy in terror. "You... who are you?!"
Roy didn't answer, just looked at him with the pity one might show a dying creature. "Go back and tell Doflamingo..." A chilling smile spread across his face. "This time, I've accepted his 'life-debt'!"
He paused, then slowly added, "And while you're at it, tell that little flamingo that the next time I see him, the consequences won't be this simple."
Bellamy stared at him in horror, breaking out in a cold sweat. He scrambled to his feet and fled, stumbling and tripping, all his earlier arrogance gone.
Roy watched him go and snorted, then turned and disappeared into the island's twilight, carrying the case. The sea breeze whistled, and the deserted island fell silent, the last rays of the setting sun casting a quiet glow on the three cold bodies on the ground...
