The Pokémon:Isekai

Chapter 9: The Succesor

The silence stretched on, thick with tension. Then, finally, one of the trainers—the boy commanding Spearow—broke it with a sharp command.

"Spearow, Quick Attack!"

As if waiting for permission, the other trainers immediately followed suit.

"Pidgey, follow Spearow! Use Quick Attack too!" one of them shouted.

"Rattata, use Sand Attack!" the girl beside him ordered, her voice carrying a mix of excitement and nerves.

"Metapod, String Shot! Slow that baby down!" the last trainer commanded.

In a matter of seconds, all four Pokémon sprang into action, attacking from different angles.

Spearow and Pidgey became streaks of motion, closing in at high speed from above. Rattata kicked up a cloud of sand, aiming to blind Axew, while Metapod's sticky silk shot through the air, aiming to restrict its movements.

The crowd buzzed with anticipation, eyes fixed on Axew. The odds were overwhelming—this should've been the moment the dragon faltered.

But Axew didn't move.

It didn't flinch.

It didn't even blink.

It just stood there, waiting.

And then Sammy smirked.

"Show them why they should be afraid, Axew."

Sammy's grin widened, his excitement mirroring Axew's own as the battle continued to escalate.

As the opposing Pokémon rushed in, Sammy's voice rang out with confidence.

"Axew, cover yourself from the birds and use Taunt on Metapod and Rattata! After that, use Metal Claw!"

Axew's eyes gleamed as it swiftly reacted. The small dragon crouched low, letting the light reflect off its metallic sheen. Just before Spearow and Pidgey could strike, Axew raised its arms and crossed them over its head, allowing its hardened scales to take the impact instead of a direct hit. The force of the Quick Attacks pushed Axew back slightly, but it remained steady on its feet, barely fazed.

Then, Axew turned its head toward Metapod and Rattata, a sly, confident smirk forming on its face. With a sharp growl, it unleashed Taunt, its gaze daring them to strike.

Metapod twitched. The String Shot it had been preparing fizzled into nothing as the move forced it to abandon defensive tactics and go on the offensive instead. Rattata, eyes narrowed in anger, immediately forgot about its Sand Attack and prepared to charge head-on.

But Axew was already moving.

With a fierce cry, it lunged forward, claws glowing a sharp silver.

"Metal Claw!"

Axew's claws slashed through the air, colliding first with Rattata. The Normal-type let out a yelp as it was knocked backward, skidding across the dirt before tumbling to a stop. The attack had been brutal—Rattata was already struggling to get up.

Without missing a beat, Axew pivoted, using its momentum to bring its claws crashing down onto Metapod. The Bug-type, forced into offense due to Taunt, had no way to brace itself. The impact sent Metapod flying, spinning wildly before landing with a heavy thud. It didn't move.

The crowd gasped.

Two Pokémon down in an instant.

And Axew hadn't even broken a sweat.

"Use Assurance on those birds!"

Axew's body tensed for a moment, its eyes gleaming as it prepared to strike. The dark energy of Assurance surrounded its claws, flickering ominously. Since both Pidgey and Spearow had landed hits on Axew earlier, the move's power had doubled—this was going to hurt.

But the opposing trainers weren't backing down so easily.

"Spearow, use Focus Energy and double up with Fury Attack!" one of the boys commanded.

Spearow let out a piercing cry, its body glowing faintly as Focus Energy sharpened its senses, making its next attacks more likely to land critical hits. Without hesitation, it dove forward, its beak rapidly stabbing the air as it prepared to unleash Fury Attack.

The other trainer quickly followed up. "Pidgey, use Protect and cover Spearow!"

A shimmering, translucent barrier appeared around Pidgey just as Axew lunged forward with Assurance. The attack crashed against the shield, dispersing its energy harmlessly. Pidgey remained untouched.

But that wasn't the real target.

With incredible speed, Axew pivoted mid-strike, swinging its glowing claws at Spearow instead. The bird Pokémon, caught in the middle of preparing its Fury Attack, had no time to react.

WHAM!

The Assurance-infused attack struck Spearow hard, sending it tumbling backward through the air. The enhanced power from taking previous damage made the hit even more devastating. Spearow flailed as it crashed into the dirt, groaning weakly. It tried to push itself up, but its wings trembled—it was barely able to stand.

And Sammy wasn't done.

"Axew, finish it with Bite!"

Axew wasted no time. It sprang toward Pidgey, jaws snapping open, fangs coated in dark energy. Pidgey's Protect had faded, leaving it completely vulnerable. Axew's sharp teeth clamped down on the Normal-Flying type, and with a powerful Bite, it let out a startled cry before going limp in Axew's grip.

Sammy's Axew released its grip and stepped back, looking victorious. Both Pidgey and Spearow were down.

Silence filled the area for a brief moment before the gathered kids burst into murmurs and whispers.

"Whoa, he just wiped them out."

"That Axew is crazy strong!"

"That was a cool battle… but kinda scary."

Sammy dusted off his jacket, grinning smugly. "Not bad, huh?" He shot a look at Alex, a challenge clear in his eyes.

Alex smirked. "Yeah… not bad at all. Not only Sammy but all of the kids knows what to do and how to play. "

As Sammy's Axew let out a victorious cry, his RotomDex floated up beside him, its screen flashing with excitement.

"[Hahaha! As expected from my Trainer! You should at least be able to handle something like this!]" RotomDex boasted, its mechanical laugh echoing through the courtyard.

Sammy smirked, recalling Axew back into its Poké Ball before turning to his defeated opponents. Instead of gloating, he extended his hand toward them.

"That wasn't even close," he said with a confident grin. "But you guys did well."

The other trainers hesitated for a moment, then shook his hand, their expressions shifting from frustration to reluctant admiration. Sammy gave them a nod before walking toward the school, his RotomDex floating beside him.

I watched him go, still processing the battle I had just witnessed. "That was a good fight," I muttered under my breath.

Before I could dwell on it any further, I felt a tug on my sleeve. Turning, I saw a small group of kids—one of them being the same trainer whose rattata had just lost to Sammy. His expression was a mix of curiosity and determination.

"Hey, who are you?" the boy asked, tilting his head. "I've never seen you around here before."

I opened my mouth to answer, but before I could get a single word out—

"[This kid here is the great Alex Carter!]" my RotomDex declared proudly, floating in front of me. "[The one who's going to beat all 16 Gym Leaders and become the next Champion!]"

I groaned, covering my face with my hand. "Rotom, seriously?"

The kids gasped, their eyes widening in excitement.

"Whoa! If you're aiming to be Champion, does that mean you're stronger than Sammy?" one of them asked eagerly.

I blinked, caught off guard by the question. "Well, I—"

"[Of course Alex Carter is stronger than him!]" RotomDex interrupted again, buzzing with enthusiasm. "[And let me tell you, kid—Alex Carter is already the rival of that Sammy guy! And Alex Carter even got his starter before him!]"

The words hung in the air for a moment. The children murmured amongst themselves, their excitement growing.

Then, from a few steps away, a familiar voice cut through the chatter.

"Oh? My rival is here?"

I stiffened. The kids immediately turned, parting like a wave as Sammy approached with his arms crossed, a smirk playing on his lips. His RotomDex hovered beside him, its screen flashing curiously.

"I didn't know we were rivals, Ralts-boy," he said, his blue eyes glinting with amusement. "But if that's the case… how about we settle it right here, right now?"

The kids cheered, forming a circle around us.

I shot a glare at my RotomDex. "You just had to say that, didn't you?"

"[Hehe, don't be shy, Alex Carter! This is your chance to prove your strength! And ı saw your eyes while they battled. You wanted to battle as well am ı right Alex Carter,]" Rotom laughed, clearly enjoying the chaos it had caused.

I let out a long sigh before locking eyes with Sammy. His smirk never wavered, his confidence unwavering.

There was no backing out now.

"Fine," I said, rolling my shoulders as Aria peeked out from my backpack, her small hands gripping the edges tightly.

"Let's battle."

Aria leaped from my backpack, landing gracefully in front of me, her small frame radiating determination. She was just as eager to battle as I was.

Trying to keep my composure, I turned to RotomDex. "Hey, Rotom, tell me what moves Aria knows and what her ability is."

Before Rotom could respond, Sammy burst into laughter.

"Wait, you don't even know your own Pokémon's moves?" he cackled, shaking his head. "Hahaha! How much more pitiful can you get?"

The other kids joined in, their laughter ringing in my ears. I clenched my fists, forcing myself to stay calm.

RotomDex, oblivious to the teasing, floated beside me. "[Don't worry, Alex Carter! Aria knows Disarming Voice, Double Team, Confusion, and Astonish! But… I can't identify her ability. I'm sorry for this, Alex Carter.]"

I frowned. Rotom can't identify her ability? That was strange. It should have been able to see it easily. Was something different about Aria?

Before I could dwell on it, Sammy crossed his arms, his smirk widening.

"Are we even gonna start, rival?" he taunted. "Both me and Axew are getting more annoyed with every passing second."

The confidence in his voice was clear—he expected an easy win. He wanted to fluster me, to get under my skin.

I took a deep breath, my eyes locking onto his.

"Oh, we're starting, Sammy."

I pointed toward the battlefield.

"Let's see if you're still laughing when this is over."
