Chapter 30 - The Fifth Element (3)
Daemon.
There wasn’t a demon in the Demon King’s army who didn’t know his name.
Daemon, the front-line commander of the Demon King’s army with an unforgettable beautiful appearance and a solid physique like carved marble.
Women always swarmed around him, and Daemon took turns with women who flattered him every day. He acted like a demon unaware that he was on a battlefield and showed no interest in the war.
“Lord Daemon. The human kingdom’s resistance is fierce. They’ve organized a special task force called the hero party and deployed them to the front line, executing special operations that can change the tide of war. Because of this hero party, several officers including Halifa have been defeated and killed. Lord Daemon. I believe special measures are needed.”
He was a demon with almost no military talent, nor was he the type to listen attentively to others. If someone warned him:
“That’s just like a final struggle. Don’t worry. I learned in military strategy that such small-scale operations can’t turn the tide of war. War isn’t just about a few people. The army is about power versus power. We’ll continue to deploy forces, and eventually, the kingdom will be pushed back due to the difference in military strength.”
“But Lord Daemon. At the current rate of the hero party’s path, it’s expected that tentacles will soon reach Lady Keiberess as well.”
If someone objected to his opinion and gave a serious warning, Daemon would distort his face horribly and create an intimidating atmosphere.
“Are you doubting my judgment now? Who put me in this position?”
“The-The Demon King…! The Demon King appointed you as the front-line commander.”
“Right. If I were a stupid guy, would I have been put in this position? Because father favors me so much. That’s why he gave me such extensive military authority.”
Daemon was also an overconfident demon.
He thought he was in the front-line commander position because of his military talent. But most demons were convinced that he was in the commander’s position because the Demon King had excessive expectations for his own bloodline, and sometimes due to a leader’s misjudgment caused by love.
“Y-yes! Lord Daemon!”
“If you understand, you may go.”
Daemon was arrogant even among demons, and his abilities were miserable compared to his talent for seducing women. These two factors created synergy, making him more insolent than anyone except when dealing with women.
The reason he had maintained the front line until now was because the women he had seduced were relatively competent officers and conducted the war enthusiastically, full of desire to achieve merit and be promoted.
Daemon believed that the female officers he had brought with his charm would end the war and be able to rule the kingdom.
“Lord Daemon! Viezra has failed to capture the Edels region and has been killed by an enemy general!”
“Uh…”
“The assassins mobilized for the fortress capture operation have been annihilated, and the operation has failed!”
“Uh…”
“Lady Keiberess has failed to attack the fortress and has been captured as a prisoner! The Empire’s high ground has been occupied, and the entire regional front is in danger of collapse!”
Thus, Daemon, who had been floundering in vague and complacent plans and the favoritism he had received since childhood, didn’t know how to cope when facing the harsh reality of the battlefield.
The most competent advisor who could advise him about the war had been captured by the enemies, and the female officers he had seduced and bound to him were dying one by one.
Officers who believed they could rise to high positions by winning battles and gaining Daemon’s favor saw their morale hit rock bottom with each defeat news, and warriors and military officials in other regions criticized him daily.
Especially after hearing the news that Keiberess had been captured, her family sent a very agitated letter of protest pressuring Daemon.
[We have heard all the rumors about adulterous activities in this war.
We know well what stories Keiberess heard and was angered by during the fortress attack, and for what purpose she charged into the fortress. You have brought shame to the demon warrior and provided the initial step towards a wrong path.
If Keiberess does not return safely this time, we will criticize and publicize your vulgar womanizing and incompetent military talents, demanding strict judgment.]
“Uh…”
Daemon knew which parts of a woman to press to feel pleasure, and how far to push. He also knew that sometimes he should let a woman go to make her feel anxious.
But all the knowledge he had was useless on the battlefield.
He scratched his head and broke out in a cold sweat, but couldn’t think of any further countermeasures.
“Wh-what should I do? Huh?”
“…First, we should negotiate for the prisoner. We should request the return of Lady Keiberess in exchange for releasing some of the kingdom’s lands that we currently effectively control.”
“…I have to give up land?”
“They won’t accept other conditions. No, it’s uncertain if they’ll accept even this condition.”
Daemon distorted his face at his aide’s advice. The fact that he had to plead while giving something to humans drove him crazy. Daemon hit the desk and shouted at his aide:
“Tell them to hand her over if they don’t want to die! Tell them I’ll kill them all if they don’t hand over Keiberess!”
“We won’t retreat even if they return Lady Keiberess, will we? It’s a meaningless threat. It will only provoke the opponent.”
If they’ve already decided to kill, threatening to kill is meaningless. Daemon was more irritated by the aide’s talk back, but had to bow his head because he had no rebuttal. The aide who had been bowing his head until recently and Daemon who had been walking with his head held stiffly had somehow switched positions.
The aide looked at the back of Daemon’s head and said:
“Lord Daemon. There are already talks in the Demon King’s castle about replacing the commander before it’s too late. I hear that capable individuals in the Demon King’s army are desperate to achieve merit at the front line.”
Daemon’s eyes widened as he stood up at the aide’s words. Then he grabbed the aide’s collar and shouted:
“Wh-what are you saying! Father wouldn’t abandon me!”
Despite Daemon grabbing his collar and shaking him, the fallen authority no longer frightened the aide. The insolent Daemon who had exercised personnel rights and behaved rudely was gone now.
“Of course, the Demon King won’t abandon you, Lord Daemon. But if mistakes continue like this, you won’t be able to remain here as a commander. Lord Daemon. You need to pull yourself together. This time, you must recover Lady Keiberess and properly maintain the front line.”
“…Damn it.”
Daemon’s hands fell. He sat in the chair and covered his head. The love letters that had made him happy, the dictionaries piled in front of him, the romance novels he had brought to study dirty talk all seemed foolish now.
If Keiberess dies, he’s finished too.
He would no longer be able to seduce women and might have to live locked up in the Demon King’s castle for life.
If he can’t restore this battlefield, he won’t be able to hold his head up properly in the demon world anymore.
Daemon gritted his teeth.
He had to save Keiberess somehow and bring her back.
Somehow.
“Aide. What if they’ve already killed Keiberess?”
“They know how important a figure Lady Keiberess is. They won’t treat her carelessly. We just need to find suitable trading conditions and hand them over to them.”
“Y-yes… That’s right, isn’t it?”
Daemon, despite his anxiety, smiled happily at the fact that Keiberess’s body would be unharmed.
For one reason.
Because her family would dislike it if she were tortured.
“Yes. She’ll be safe without injuries.”
Daemon muttered like that and smiled.
“Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”
Smoke rose and the smell of burning flesh filled the room. Lena whistled as she examined the red-hot branding iron from various angles, and Mille reached out to Lena and said:
“Lena! I want to try too! Me too!”
Lena grinned at Mille’s request and carefully handed it over so that Mille wouldn’t get burned. Then she pointed to the mottled thigh and said:
“Ah, yes. Now! You have to press hard with all your strength. Understand?”
“Yes. I got it! I do it like this, right?”
Sizzzzzzzzzzle.
“Kyeuaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”
Keiberess screamed as her body trembled. As she shook her head trying to overcome the pain, Lena said in a cheerful tone:
“What, it hurts? Seems like it hurts a lot? Ashuria! Can I ask you?”
“Heal.”
“Ah, aeuuuug…! Kyeuu…!”
Ashuria, who had been standing next to her with an expressionless face, nodded at Lena’s request and healed Keiberess. The body that had been a mess with burns and penetrating wounds just a moment ago returned to its original state.
With the eerie feeling of wounds healing, Keiberess closed her eyes, her shoulders twitching.
“Kkeuk… Kyeuk…! Th-this…! You crazy bitches…! Like this… I…! Do you think I’ll say anything at all…!”
“It’s not like I particularly want to hear any story from you?”
Even when Keiberess shouted with flashing eyes, Lena brushed it off. The demon commander’s intimidation was of no use in this small room. Lena heated the branding iron in the fire again and said:
“Just… We want to use our expertise. We don’t like you.”
Sizzzzzzzzle!
“Kyiaaaaaaaaaaaa!”
Once again, a pungent smell arose after burning. Lena took a deep breath and made an ecstatic expression. Keiberess glared at Lena, sweating profusely.
“I’ll… kill you…”
“Could you kill Ashuria before me? Because you’ll hate her more.”
Lena pointed at Ashuria as she said so. As Keiberess made a puzzled expression and turned her head, Ashuria rummaged around her waist and took out a letter. Before Keiberess could understand the situation, Ashuria began to read the letter in a calm voice:
“Viezra. Every time I see you, I feel my lower body writhing like a Hell Actomil Snake…”
Keiberess widened her eyes and tried to lash out as if she would devour them.
“You, you son of a bitch…! I-immediately that mouth…!”
Sizzzzzzzzle!
“Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”
Lena began to whisper into the ear of Keiberess, who was panting from torture:
“Whose fault do you think it is that you’re being tortured like this? Hm?”
“Th-that’s…!”
“Daemon is the bad one, isn’t he? If it weren’t for Daemon, you would have won. If he hadn’t just sent letters to women stupidly, you wouldn’t be here like this.”
“No…”
From the other ear, Ashuria’s quiet voice echoed:
“Halifa. Could there be a woman as lovely as one carrying poison? I want to share aphrodisiacs with you and fall into ecstasy…”
“Nooo…”
Sizzzzzzzzle!
“Kyaaaaaaaaaaa!”
“Do you really think it’s not true?”
Along with Lena’s voice, laughter filled the room.
