The Prime Minister s Darling

Chapter 274 - 274: 156 Great Disaster Looming (Gu Jinyu)

Chapter 274: 156 Great Disaster Looming (Gu Jinyu)

Gu Changqing gave a cold look, picked up the medicine bowl, and gently began to feed Gu Yan.

Gu Changqing was the oldest brother, and he had two younger brothers. Even though he was not much older than them, ever since their birth mother’s early demise, the stepmother had joined the family, and their father’s eyes were filled only with the stepmother and her pair of children.

Some things couldn’t be provided by servants, so he had gained experience caring for his two younger brothers.

Of course, Gu Yan was different from Gu Chengfeng and Gu Chenglin, he was too weak, and had to be treated as delicately as a newly born kitten.

Gu Yan, in his daze, tasted the bitterness and rejected it with a protrusion of his tongue, pushing the spoon out.

A few drops of medicine splashed onto Gu Changqing’s hand.

Gu Changqing wasn’t annoyed, he sat by the bedside and helped to prop up Gu Yan with a pillow.

Then he scooped another spoon to feed Gu Yan.

Gu Yan turned his head away and lay against the pillow, refusing to drink.

Gu Changqing had plenty of experience dealing with this kind of situation. There were some candied fruits on the table, so he picked one up and held it near Gu Yan’s mouth.

Gu Yan licked the piece, tasted the sweetness, and opened his mouth to eat. But Gu Changqing extended the spoon and fed the medicine into his mouth.

Gu Yan’s eyes widened in surprise, totally stunned!

This was also how Gu Changqing fed medicine to Gu Chenglin when he was young; the same expression was on his face too. But truth be told, Gu Chenglin was not as adorable as Gu Yan.

Gu Yan was flushed from the fever; a tuft of hair was pointed upward on his head.

Gu Changqing was reminded of a goofy fawn he saw during a hunt.

Probably, he won’t be able to treat a fawn as a hunting animal from now on.

Gu Yan, delirious from the fever, failed to register Gu Changqing’s presence and believed he was dreaming. He absent-mindedly allowed all the medicine to be fed to him.

Gu Changqing rewarded him with another piece of candied fruit.

He did not eat it, but held it in his hand.

Gu Changqing wondered, “Why aren’t you eating?”

Gu Yan responded pitifully, “If I wake and the candied fruit is still there, then I’ll know it wasn’t a dream.”

His cough was severe, causing his voice to become hoarse. Even without looking at his expression, anyone could hear the victimization in his voice.

Was he upset because I hadn’t visited him lately?

Gu Changqing felt at a loss for words.

You know nothing yet.

If only you knew that that I am the same big brother who neglected, despised you and allowed others to bully you when we were younger, you would never talk like this.

You wouldn’t want to see me either.

Nor would you wait for me.

Glancing at Gu Yan again, Gu Changqing saw that he had already fallen asleep leaning against the pillow.

He pulled the blanket over Gu Yan intending to leave, but just as he moved, he found that Gu Yan’s hand was tightly gripping his sleeve.

Gu Changqing gazed at his hand for a while, sighed helplessly, and sat back down on the stool.

The entire night, Gu Yan was burning with a high fever. He had heart disease, so he couldn’t just take any anti-fever medication.

Gu Jiao placed an ice pack on his forehead and brought two ice blankets from outside the room to wrap around him.

When Gu Yan refused to remain wrapped in the ice blanket, Gu Changqing hugged him along with the blanket into his arms.

This temperature was just right for Gu Yan, but to a normal person, it was as if Gu Changqing was embracing a big ice block, even his lips turned pale.

At dawn, Gu Yan’s high fever finally stabilized, showing no signs of flaring up again.

Gu Changqing, his body numb and stiff from the cold, returned to the residence.

Among the three children, Gu Yan was the most vulnerable. Now that he was fine, everyone else would most likely be fine as well.

The Yao Family had visited once, and learned about the children’s illness. She was anxious, but never having had chickenpox, Gu Jiao had not allowed her indoors.

Today, Gu Jiao tidied up and decided to visit the Marquis Residence to assure the Yao Family that everything was fine.

The weather was good today. There was no wind, and the sun was shining brightly. It felt comfortably warm.

Almost everyone in the residence knew her identity now, so no one dared to block her. She entered the residence through the main entrance.

The Yao Family’s courtyard was very remote. One had to pass through two interior doors, go through Shuixie Garden, and circumnavigate half the residence.

When Gu Jiao reached Shuixie Garden, she heard a melodious tune being played on a guqin. It reminded her of the melody that had haunted her for half an afternoon at the Medical Hall.

This version was smoother, and the quality of the sound from the guqin was also purer.

“Sister Jin Yu, you play so well.”

From within the pavilion, a young girl dressed in pink robes sincerely complimented Gu Jinyu.

Gu Jinyu stroke the guqin strings and gently glanced at the girl, “Once you learn how to play, you will be able to play it equally well.”
