The Prime Minister’s Little Wife

Chapter 58

Chapter 58: Shyness

“What’s the point of going? If they’re unwilling, are you planning to kidnap her?” Li Da Gou said.

“Buy some knockout drops and trick Zhizhi into drinking them. Then, if Er Gou does something with her, once the rice is cooked, how could she possibly escape?”

“Second daughter-in-law, you need to stop these thoughts. At this point, you’re still dreaming? If you refuse to repent, don’t blame me for being cruel!” Old Madam Li said viciously.

Old Man Li spoke sternly, “All of you, stop these inappropriate thoughts. That man of Zhizhi’s is not someone we can afford to provoke.”

He had been so scared earlier that he started muttering to himself. He truly understood that if it weren’t for the sake of his daughter Da Ni, that man would have surely wiped out the Li family!

He was absolutely certain of it!

Even now, his heart was still trembling!

With Old Man Li and Old Madam Li, the two heavyweights of the family, speaking out, the Li family didn’t dare to cause any more trouble.

But Li Er Mao, after hearing her mother’s words, thought of that noble, extraordinarily handsome man and felt a surge of excitement. She couldn’t care less about what her grandparents were saying!

She was determined to go to her aunt’s house. Xu Daniu wasn’t the one she wanted.

Her cousin, who had been rejected by her fiancé, how could she possibly be worthy of that radiant, moon-like man?!

Meanwhile, Xu Zhizhi, who was being coveted by so many, was quite different. She set aside the messy bedding and decided to tidy up the room tomorrow.

She took out a quilt from her space, spread it on the bed, and slept soundly until the sun was high in the sky.

When Xu Zhizhi woke up, she saw Xiao Jingheng sitting in the main room, with Xiao Wu standing in front of him, chattering away.

Everyone else had already gone to work. Today, they were preparing to lay the roof tiles.

“You’re up? Let’s go over for breakfast,” Xiao Jingheng said, looking at the drowsy girl.

“Big sister, you’re awake! Brother-in-law has been waiting for you for a long time,” Xiao Wu quickly said as he walked up to Xu Zhizhi.

“Have you eaten yet?” Xu Zhizhi asked, feeling a bit embarrassed.

Since arriving here, she had always gotten up early. Today was the first time she had slept in, and Xiao Jingheng had caught her.

“Not yet. We were waiting to eat with you.”

“Then Xiao Wu, go start the fire. The three of us will cook and eat here.”

Xu Zhizhi thought that since it was already late, the food over there would have gone cold by now.

Xiao Jingheng had no objections. He loved the meals Xu Zhizhi cooked.

Xiao Wu immediately went to start the fire. It had been a while since he had eaten his sister’s cooking.

Xu Zhizhi washed a bowl of rice to make porridge. She had preserved eggs and lean meat in her space, so she decided to make lean meat and preserved egg porridge.

She used the spiritual spring water from her space to cook the porridge. Xiao Jingheng had consumed so many medicinal herbs from her space that he should be able to handle it.

Since she didn’t have many preserved eggs, she hadn’t taken them out to eat before. It seemed she would have to figure out how to make some preserved eggs and salted duck eggs when she had time…

The money from selling bean sprouts wasn’t nearly enough to build their large courtyard. She had used the money from selling the ginseng earlier to cover the costs.

Xu Zhizhi thought that it would be another two months before the sweet potatoes brought in any income. She needed to come up with a way to earn money soon.

She couldn’t just sit around and watch their savings dwindle!

The fish in their pond were growing well. She could try making fish balls to sell.

Xu Zhizhi chopped the lean meat, peeled and cut the preserved eggs into small pieces, and prepared the chopped green onions. She felt that just porridge wasn’t enough, and since the green onions in her space were growing exceptionally well, she thought of making scallion pancakes.

After preparing everything, Xu Zhizhi went to wash up and then started frying the scallion pancakes.

Soon, the kitchen was filled with a delicious aroma. Xiao Wu stared unblinkingly at the pancakes that hadn’t yet been served, his throat making gulping sounds as he swallowed his saliva.

Xu Zhizhi hadn’t seen the little guy look so greedy in a long time. It was adorable.

“Go call Brother Xiao to set the table, and then we can…”

“Brother-in-law, set the table quickly! We’re having breakfast!” Xiao Wu shouted at Xiao Jingheng before his sister could even finish speaking.

From the moment the siblings entered the kitchen, Xiao Jingheng had been standing at the door, watching the busy figure.

Xu Zhizhi also stir-fried some bok choy. The produce from her space had an extraordinary flavor.

Xiao Jingheng set the table, and Xiao Wu arranged the bowls and chopsticks.

She carefully ladled the porridge into a coarse ceramic bowl and handed it to Xiao Jingheng with a smile.

Then she ladled another bowl, blowing on it to cool it down while shaking her head.

She smiled and handed that bowl to her brother, then served herself a bowl.

After serving the porridge, she sat down with a radiant smile, ready to eat.

Xiao Jingheng drank the lean meat and preserved egg porridge, which was rich, smooth, and incredibly delicious.

Even a simple bok choy dish was made sweet and flavorful, and the scallion pancakes, made with just flour and green onions, were a delicacy he had never tasted before.

He was extremely happy, eating the scallion pancakes with gusto while watching the girl beside him take small, delicate bites.

He wished he could transform into the food on the plate!

Xiao Jingheng was immensely grateful that he had stayed. Looking at the person beside him, his heart felt full.

As if possessed, he used his own chopsticks to pick up some vegetables and place them on Xu Zhizhi’s plate.

This was something he had never done before! Yet now, he did it so naturally, as if he had done it a thousand times.

Xu Zhizhi looked at the vegetables that had been picked up with chopsticks that had been in Xiao Jingheng’s mouth and felt a bit disgusted. Could she not eat them?

There was no custom of using serving chopsticks here, and Xu Zhizhi didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. Usually, everyone ate their own food and didn’t share dishes like this!

“I think you really like vegetables,” Xu Zhizhi said with a grin.

Her eyes curved into crescents, and her smile was radiant.

What goes around comes around, right?

Xu Zhizhi picked up the vegetables from her plate and placed them in Xiao Jingheng’s bowl, deliberately biting her chopsticks before doing so.

Let’s see if you’ll dare to do that again!

Xiao Jingheng’s heart raced, as if it had surged from a valley to a mountain peak and then back down again. This uncontrollable feeling left him dizzy, and the food in his mouth tasted as sweet as honey.

The sweetness rushed to his head, leaving his mind blank, remembering only Xu Zhizhi’s playful smile, like a flower in the mountains, like… his heart was filled with joy!

He felt a sense of peace and tranquility. If it weren’t for the sake of the people, he would have been content to live this happy life forever.

The three of them enjoyed the porridge and pancakes sweetly. Both Xiao Jingheng and Xiao Wu ate until they were full.

Xu Zhizhi cleaned up the dishes, with Xiao Wu helping behind her. Xiao Jingheng, who didn’t know how to help, watched carefully, thinking he would do it next time.

Xiao Jingheng stared at her slender, white fingers, like green onion roots, with smooth, rounded nails and healthy pink tips.

His heart raced uncontrollably, completely beyond his expectations.

“Xiao Jingheng…”

Xu Zhizhi called several times, but the man in front of her seemed entranced, standing dumbly at the door, staring at her.

He was blocking her way, but no matter how many times she called, he didn’t respond.

“Xiao Jingheng!” Xu Zhizhi shouted loudly.

Only then did Xiao Jingheng snap out of it. Seeing Xu Zhizhi’s puzzled face, he realized he had been lost in thought.

Without a word, Xiao Jingheng turned and left the kitchen.

Xu Zhizhi noticed that his ears, which had been snow-white, were now as red as if they were bleeding.

Ah! He’s shy!
