The Prime Minister’s Little Wife

Chapter 73

Chapter 73: Drooling Over a Handsome Man

Usually, when their eyes met, either Xu Zhizhi would look away first, or Xiao Jingheng would. But this time, neither of them made the first move.

Xiao Jingheng didn’t want to look away, and Xu Zhizhi forgot to.

Xiao Jingheng had changed into a dark blue robe. The clothing accentuated his fair skin, making it appear even fairer. His face was clean and smooth, like a peeled egg.

Even a man’s skin could be so flawless.

And his tall, upright posture exuded a sense of strength and resilience.

It was the aura of a true man.

Standing beside him, one felt a sense of security, as if no storm could be feared.

Xu Zhizhi couldn’t bring herself to look away, and neither could Xiao Jingheng. The two of them stared at each other for a long time, until Xiao Jingheng pursed his lips and smiled at her.

The phrase “a smile like a flower” wasn’t just for women—it applied to men as well.

Xu Zhizhi’s heart skipped a beat.

This little playboy was so handsome it was almost criminal~

If this were modern times, he’d be a natural-born heartthrob!

With looks and a physique like his, he’d be a once-in-five-thousand-years kind of man. Who else would even stand a chance?

If he debuted as a celebrity, he’d instantly become an international superstar, his looks alone leaving other stars in the dust.

Who would’ve thought that such a handsome man would end up being her future husband? She’d probably drool in her dreams just thinking about him.

Xiao Jingheng looked at Xu Zhizhi, who was staring at him in a daze, her eyes sparkling like stars. She didn’t even blink, her lips slightly parted, a glistening sheen at the corner of her mouth.

Xu Xiaowu, seeing his sister staring at his brother-in-law with drool dripping from her mouth, asked curiously, “Sister, why are you drooling while looking at Brother-in-law?”

Xiao Jingheng chuckled inwardly, very satisfied with his appearance.

His earlier awkwardness was nothing.

Xu Zhizhi let out an “ah” and indeed felt something slippery at the corner of her mouth. She reached up to wipe it and was stunned!

Oh my gosh! She really had been drooling!

Could she tell her little brother that she had been drooling over a handsome man?

Not only had she been drooling over a man, but she had also been caught wiping her drool by Xiao Jingheng.

Oh my god!

This was so embarrassing!

Xiao Jingheng seemed to understand what Xu Zhizhi was thinking. He covered his mouth and laughed.

“Let’s go, let’s go eat.”

Xiao Jingheng stepped forward, took her hand, and led Xu Xiaowu over to eat.

Over here, many hands made light work. The villagers quickly carried the wild boar meat and went with the butcher to the village chief’s house.

The villagers kept praising Father Xu, then happily went to collect their share of the meat.

Xu Chunhua, Xu Lanhua, and Second Aunt Xu, along with a few helpers, were busy cutting the meat, washing the offal, and tending to the fire. By dinnertime, they had prepared several dishes that Xu Zhizhi had taught them.

Braised pork, spicy stir-fried intestines, sautéed liver, a vegetable dish, and a pork lung soup.

Xu Zhizhi and the other two arrived just in time for dinner. As usual, the men sat in the courtyard, while the women sat in the bamboo house outside.

Xu Honghua’s eyes had been glued to Xiao Jingheng from the moment he arrived. Even after he disappeared into the courtyard, she craned her neck to keep looking.

Xu Zhizhi herself had just been caught drooling over a man.

She couldn’t even bring herself to look down on her cousin now!

It was all Xiao Jingheng’s fault for being so ridiculously good-looking!

Third Aunt Xu watched her younger daughter with growing concern. She didn’t dare tell her husband, nor did she want to discuss it with her older daughter. She could only keep her worries to herself.

Third Aunt Xu had scolded Xu Honghua, but it was no use. If anything, she was the one who ended up so angry she felt like vomiting blood.

She glanced at Xu Zhizhi, who was quietly eating, whispering something to her older daughter Lanhua, then saying something to Chunhua, who burst into laughter. They were clearly in high spirits.

Zhizhi’s delicate features and fair skin made her look more and more like her mother-in-law!

Third Aunt Xu felt increasingly bitter. She looked at her younger daughter, who was still craning her neck to look toward the courtyard entrance!

The meat in her mouth tasted as bitter as bile. She glared fiercely at Xu Honghua!

Xu Honghua, however, was in no mood to notice her mother’s glare. She had been embroidering at home when she heard noises outside. Curious, she followed the sound.

It turned out that the handsome man had hunted a huge wild boar, but the foolish villagers were praising her ugly, stupid cousin for how much she had improved in looks and ability…

Listening to this, Xu Honghua was so angry she questioned her existence!

Clearly, it was the man who was capable. What did her stupid cousin have to do with it?

As Third Uncle Wang had said, how could such an outstanding man end up with Zhizhi? Xu Honghua was a thousand times prettier than Xu Zhizhi!

Xu Honghua had followed the crowd to the courtyard entrance and overheard the man’s deep, magnetic voice saying he would share the wild boar meat with everyone.

Ah! So generous, so wealthy!

But then she saw Xu Zhizhi standing beside him, and her mood instantly soured. She decided she must go to the neighboring Qingshi Town to find her older cousin.

Xu Honghua had it all planned out. Her older cousin was infatuated with her and would definitely help. She would have him marry Xu Zhizhi.

If her cousin refused, she would drug them and force them to consummate their relationship…

Thinking this, Xu Honghua’s mood improved. She ate the braised pork with gusto—it was fatty but not greasy, truly delicious. Her sister’s cooking had really improved.

Third Aunt Xu, seeing her younger daughter finally eating peacefully and no longer craning her neck to look toward the courtyard, finally relaxed. She picked up a piece of intestine to eat. She didn’t know how it was prepared, but it had no foul smell. Instead, it was crispy and fragrant.

Since marrying Xu Dahu, Wang Daya had been helping out at Xu Zhizhi’s house every day, tending to the fire and doing odd jobs. The work was light, and she ate plenty of meat and fish.

Her husband, Dahu, had even said at night that her skin had become fairer, and she had gained some weight. She no longer felt like a bag of bones…

But her grandmother kept insisting that her mother bring her back and have her talk to Xu Zhizhi about marrying Third Uncle’s daughter to Xu Daniu.

Her mother, however, wanted her to suggest marrying Second Sister to Xu Daniu. Wang Daya didn’t know what to do and was deeply troubled!

She was living well now and didn’t want to offend Xu Zhizhi!

Wang Daya secretly glanced at Xu Zhizhi, who was smiling, her delicate features even more beautiful.

Seeing this, Wang Daya’s mood also lifted, and the meat tasted even better. She would never say anything to upset Xu Zhizhi.

If Xu Zhizhi were unhappy, her husband and mother-in-law would surely treat her less kindly.

Xiao Jingheng, as usual, ate only one bowl before leaving the table, so as not to make his father-in-law and the others uncomfortable. They ate stiffly, not daring to pick up food or speak, always sneaking glances at him…

Once he left, they came alive, grabbing food, gulping down soup, and eating the meat with gusto.
