Chapter 25: HISTORY OF BURDEN
Margaret's hands trembled as she held the sack of grain close to her chest, her eyes filled with quiet fury and grief. "My husband died fighting a darkside spirit, and you expect me to let you take my son to hunt the same monsters that killed him? No, I won't allow Alfie to join the Shinra academy. Going with you is absolutely impossible. I just lost the man I love—I can't lose another."
She turned and began walking toward the small garden in front of the house. Marco followed, his steps slow but firm.
"Are you certain about this, ma'am?" Marco asked gently. "Alfie's Renshi awakening will attract darkside spirits to this town. If he's not properly guided, he won't survive. You may lose him either way."
"Then do the same spell Falco did!" Margaret snapped. "Seal the Renshi! Prevent him from using it!"
Marco sighed. "It's not that simple. That spell—cutting the connection to the Renshi castles—it's something I spent decades learning. I can't do it for Alfie. Only the owner of the castles can close them. Falco doing it so young… that remains a mystery even to me."
Margaret stared at the soil beneath her feet. "Then teach him. Give him the knowledge. Surely someone taught Falco."
"That's why I need to take him with me," Marco replied. "It will take months to teach. I can't waste time staying here. Once he learns to control it, I'll send him back."
There was a long silence before Margaret asked, "And what if my other sons awaken the same Renshi? Will you help them too?"
Marco nodded. "They won't. They both only awakened standard dark Renshi last night, triggered by Alfie's burst. They're ordinary Shinras—they can be safely sent to the Shinra academy. It's protected. The boys will be safe there. And they'll grow stronger… able to defend each other."
Margaret's eyes welled with tears again. "I'm terrified. If I lose them… I don't know if I can survive that kind of pain again."
"I understand," Marco said. "But this world doesn't allow weakness. You must choose strength—for them. The academy is protected by mage-forged barriers. No Renshi aura escapes. The boys will be fine."
Margaret clutched the grain bag tighter. "Then promise me—swear to me—you'll keep Alfie alive."
Marco placed a hand over his chest. "I gave Falco my word. I give you the same promise now. I will protect him."
After a deep breath, Margaret finally nodded. "Take Elijah and Marcus to the Shinra academy. Take Alfie with you, and teach him. I trust you."
But a sudden thought struck her. "Wait… why not take Alfie to the academy as well?"
Marco's expression turned grim.
"Because of history," he said. "Because of who—and what—Alfie is."
He gazed up at the sky as if peering through time itself.
"Long ago, when Renshi first appeared, no one knew its origin. Then came the great star—so bright it erased night for over a year, Legends call the star the father of RENSHI". After it faded, life changed. Plants, water, the earth—everything became imbued with Renshi. Humanity used it for farming, building, healing. Then the first children were born with innate Renshi."
He continued, "Some feared them. Others revered them. War broke out. Whole planets were destroyed. The bloodshed led to a fragile peace, and those children were accepted. They became the first Renshi users."
Margaret listened silently, sensing the weight of what he was about to reveal.
"Time passed. Then… the abominations were born. The Twelve Children with the two parts of RENSHI. Born on the same day, each one possessed both light and dark Renshi. Their power was unimaginable. When their true abilities awakened, they destroyed countless planets with the rampaging AURA. People called them "WIZARDS"After the destruction,After years of rejection, they made up their mind and took control over the universe after decades of taking control of the universe they tried to absorb all planetary Renshi to pay back mockers, the balance broke. They were consumed by their own darkness after the humans figured out from a spy witch, the witches where born years after their REAWAKENING,the AURA from the REAWAKENING triggered some of the future children to be born with the dual RENSHI,the humans tries to kill all millions of babies born with the dual RENSHI, News got to the rulers of the universe. They stopped it and took all witches in to a planet and called it "HOME"
According to the witch's account, the downfall of the Twelve Wizards began with a grand and dangerous initiative known as Project Reborn. The goal of this project was nothing short of universal domination — to devour the Renshi of every planet in the universe and become the sole wielders of its power.
To execute this plan, the wizards designed a powerful artifact called the Non-Renshi Storage. Unlike any known magical tool, this storage device was created from a colossal tree that floated in the skies of a mysterious world known only as the Planet of Floatation. What made this tree so unique — and dangerous — was its complete disconnection from planetary nature. It was a non-living entity in terms of Renshi, meaning it contained no Renshi energy of its own. This absence allowed it to absorb Renshi from other sources, just like mage-crafted tools, but on an immense scale.
The wizards used this floating tree to construct a massive extraction machine, combining several trees to form a central core and using parts of the bark and roots as sockets to extract Renshi from planetary cores. Their plan was to slowly feed this harvested Renshi into themselves using the storage system, giving them the ability to consume limitless Renshi without the danger of overwhelming their physical bodies.
However, the true weakness of the device lay in its origin. Because the tree was never in contact with planetary Renshi, its neutrality became a liability. The moment it was exposed to a foreign Renshi source — even in small quantities — it began to change, becoming a Renshi conductor itself. This crucial detail was uncovered after years of research by Renshi scholars and human sages who had been secretly studying the wizards' actions.
Seizing this opportunity, the Renshi users crafted their own versions of the Non-Renshi Storage, integrating them into their bodies. When the wizards initiated the first phase of Project Reborn, attempting to devour the Renshi of a chosen planet, the human countermeasure activated. The vast channeling of artificial Non-Renshi Storage backfired on the wizards, forcing them to absorb unstable and redirected energy beyond their control.
Overwhelmed by their own greed and blinded by ambition, the wizards lost control of the immense Renshi they sought to monopolize. This catastrophic event did not destroy them, but it led to their corruption."
Marco's voice lowered.
"Their corrupted Renshi birthed their darkside into existence darkside spirits without bodies, they where born from the excess RENSHI through the failure of project reborn, this spirits borned drained the Renshi across planets until they could form bodies of their own—the first generation of the wizards darkside spirits where called by humans "Ancient gods". And from them, more generations came. Each one not as strong and monstrous as the previous one."
Margaret stepped back, overwhelmed.
"But not all with dual Renshi turned evil," Marco said. "The witches were different. Lesser than the wizards, but still born with both light and dark. The humans turned on them out of fear. The Shinras were originally created to hunt witches, before the darkside spirits took priority."
Marco finally looked Margaret in the eyes.
"I am a witch, ma'am. Second generation. My parents died protecting me. I've lived in hiding my entire life. I have survived only by using the light half of my Renshi. If Alfie goes to the academy, the moment they identify his dual Renshi, they'll eliminate him. No hesitation. No mercy."
He paused. "Alfie needs me. Others like me will have sensed his awakening. Powerful Shinras could already be coming. We need to leave before they arrive."
Margaret took a long, shaky breath, the truth crashing down on her like a storm.
"I… I didn't know," she whispered.
"Few do," Marco said softly. "But now you understand why this isn't just about training. This is survival."
Margaret looked up toward the distant hills, where the sky was beginning to darken again. She turned back to Marco, her voice low and heavy.
"Then take him. But promise me again… you'll protect him. Not just from the darkside spirits. But from everyone."
Marco bowed his head. "On Falco's name. I swear it."
