Chapter 26: Chapter 26 Problem with Orochimaru
Jiraiya's mind was reeling.
The reality before him was so drastically different from what he remembered, it felt like a cruel joke.
Orochimaru, his childhood friend, the one he'd trained and sparred with, was now a girl.
The implications of this change were staggering, and Jiraiya struggled to reconcile his memories with the present.
His shock must have been evident on his face because Orochimaru, always perceptive, narrowed her eyes.
"You've been watching me since I arrived at the academy. What is your problem?"
Her voice, though feminine, still held the same sharp edge he remembered.
Orochimaru was used to being stared at, but there was something different about Jiraiya's gaze.
It wasn't the usual curiosity or disdain she often encountered. It was...confusion, mixed with a strange sort of recognition.
It made her uneasy.
"Huh, On, no I don't have any problem,"
Jiraiya stammered, his thoughts still in disarray.
Orochimaru misread his reaction.
"You think that my name doesn't suit me, I can tell. I don't like my name either so keep it to yourself."
She was quick to anger, always had been, but there was a vulnerability in her words that Jiraiya had never heard before.
"I don't really have a problem with your name dude,"
Jiraiya replied, still struggling to adjust to the new reality.
"I AM NOT A DUDE!"
Orochimaru's voice exploded, echoing through the academy halls. The outburst startled Jiraiya, and he realized his mistake.
"Shit, my bad..."
Jiraiya apologized.
He had never meant to offend her, but his mind was still catching up with the changes.
Tsunade, who had been watching the exchange, smirked and came forward.
"Jiraiya, how could you bully her?"
She knew Jiraiya wasn't a bully. But it was fun when she saw the opportunity to play him.
"Come on, Tsunade. Don't play me like that. Listen, Orochimaru. I don't really think anything bad about you. You are just… Urgg, beautiful and cute…"
Orochimaru's face twitched. He complimented her but she didn't feel happy about it at all.
And when it was going to be more awkward, the bell rang.
It was time for them to go study to become a ninja.
Orochimaru's gaze remained fixed on Jiraiya, intense and unwavering, reminiscent of a predator stalking its prey.
Jiraiya recognized the danger.
A wry smile tugged at Jiraiya's lips.
"Damn,"
He thought to himself,
"I need to be prepared. Orochimaru can be so incredibly petty when he… no she wants to be."
He knew that Orochimaru's retaliations could range from mildly inconvenient pranks to elaborate, meticulously planned traps.
Jiraiya's mind overworked, already strategizing his next move.
He wouldn't allow Orochimaru to gain the upper hand.
…
Tsunade's laughter echoed through the streets as she walked alongside Jiraiya, whose current appearance was nothing short of comical.
From the tips of his hair to the soles of his feet, he was drenched in a vibrant shade of blue.
"Honestly, Jiraiya,"
She managed between giggles.
"What on earth were you and Orochimaru up to? You two have been causing chaos at the academy since morning!"
Jiraiya grumbled under his breath, casting a rueful glance at his blue-stained clothes.
He had fallen victim to one of Orochimaru's traps, a trap so childish yet effective that Jiraiya couldn't help but feel a grudging respect for his rival's ingenuity.
He could have easily avoided it, of course. Jiraiya was no stranger to Orochimaru's tricks.
But this time, he had deliberately let himself fall into the trap. He knew that if he didn't, Orochimaru would simply continue to plot and scheme.
However, Jiraiya wasn't one to take things lying down. He may have been the victim today, but he was also the godfather of the prank master, Uzumaki Naruto.
Pranking was practically in his blood, and he had already devised a fitting retaliation for Orochimaru's blue surprise.
Unbeknownst to Orochimaru, Jiraiya had returned the favor with a prank of his own, leaving his rival in a similar state of disarray.
As Orochimaru walked home, she too was covered from head to toe in a vibrant hue – not blue, but a shocking pink.
Jiraiya's mischievous grin widened at the thought of Orochimaru's reaction.
"She is going to be livid tomorrow."
Tsunade shook her head. She really liked to be around him. Everyday was so fun.
…
Orochimaru stomped back to her dwelling, fuming, her body still tinted with the remnants of Jiraiya's ridiculous prank.
The pink hue clung to her skin, a constant reminder of her humiliation.
"That blasted, white-haired monkey!"
She seethed, her voice laced with venom.
She had never anticipated being outmaneuvered in such a fashion, especially after witnessing her opponent fall so convincingly into her own carefully laid trap.
Jiraiya had known about her scheme, yet he had still played along, his apology seemingly genuine.
For a fleeting moment, she had almost been swayed, her anger momentarily tempered by his apparent sincerity.
But that moment of weakness had been brutally punished. No sooner had Jiraiya tumbled into her trap than he had sprung his own, retaliating with an almost childish prank that left her flustered and covered in pink.
The audacity of it! They were supposed to be even, but Jiraiya had tipped the scales once more.
"This isn't over,"
Orochimaru hissed, her eyes narrowing with renewed determination.
"Tomorrow, I will have my revenge. And this time, my trap will be flawless. He won't see it coming."
A sinister smirk curled her lips as she began to plot her next move.
Jiraiya might have won the battle today, but the war was far from over. And Orochimaru was not one to concede defeat easily.
She would make him pay, and when she was finished, he would regret ever crossing her.
