The Rejected Alpha's Vengeance

Chapter 517: What of The Goodbyes We Never Said? [1]

[HAWI]

"...If you stay in there for long, I will cause chaos, and Mbali will have to kill me, and that will leave Adolf without a mate, and Adolf is Rukiya's best friend and brother," Zaniel shrugged casually like he was giving the psycho woman an ultimatum.

Mbali facepalmed while Adolf stared at his mate like the man had a death wish he was posing an indirect challenge to Hawi by using Rukiya Greyson and that was suicide for anyone with a mind that could work.

This wasn't supposed to be the way shit came on but they didn't have that many choices laying around for them to go on and explore, right? Society had fucked them one too many times, and all they had to show for it, was the broken hearts that their bodies were covering.

Perhaps it would help if they stripped each other's area and had a heart-to-heart, right? But that wouldn't even work because they had all been in pain, they had all lost something and they were trying to move on.

Sure, they knew where each and everyone's scar was at, but they wouldn't dare to use that against each other. That was what life had reduced them all to and it wasn't as fair as they wanted to scream it out to the world anyway.

"You're learning, Zaniel. That's smart of you, but be careful not to try that when I feel like committing murders because Ruru isn't here to stop me. I bet you know what that means for anyone outside of this team, right?

"Careful not to be an outsider too, yeah?" Hawi worked with a smile on her face like she wanted to send the warning with a theta that sounded more like a promise. This was crazy and the Savasci knights were tense; too tense that she had to speak to cut through the tension.

"Mistress, what do you need us to do?" Malika asked respectfully like she always talked to Hawi.

This was a very delicate moment for all of them and they had to try and make sure that things were alright. It didn't matter how long the battle would be, what mattered was they were one and together.

"I need you to take care of our people, Malika. Once they come home, there won't be a Sicario wolf or a gray wolf. They will all be Sicario wolves. They will all be our people and they won't be treated any differently than we would treat the Sicario wolves.

"The residences aren't that hard to set up now that the territories are bound together. There won't be a city of Greysons, or a city for purely Sicario wolves. They will share apartment blocks.

"They will live as one people and goddess help the souls of anyone who will try to fuck that up," Hawi said casually and they listened to her.

They could feel that she was trying to run away, but this time they weren't as worried, because, unlike the other times when she ran without saying anything, this time seemed like it would be different but would it?

Would it ever be better for them or was this just an illusion they were feeding themselves to make them feel better about the chaos and the wars that had cost them an arm and a leg? Was this how shit was supposed to be for them either way?

"That will not be a problem, Hawi. You know that too," Hudhayfah said and Hawi looked at the old healer with them. He had been patient despite all that had happened.

Hudhayfah had a lot to say and do, just like the rest of them, but he was like a team trying to figure out what part of the mess they could sort out first. There was a hard moment for them all and females, hell was too cold a place for them this time.

Perhaps if they got through the next few years, they would be able to tell the difference between pain and pleasure or pain and happiness or whatever the fuck made the pain a little more insane than what that was.

"Adolf, Zane, and Hudhayfah will be the key representatives of the Greyson team, while the transition is ongoing, which will make it easier for them to settle in. I understand that Sherry is also coming, so she can join you if you so wish," Hawi said and they nodded in understanding.

It was practically expected because they had the closest of bonds with the Greyson wolves and would find a way of making them understand the transition very well without causing any trouble between both packs.

This was a huge change for them all, but one thing that Hawi was certain of was the fact that every Great wolf out there knew just how much Hawi loved and respected Rukiya.

They knew that Hawi would have laid her life for Ruru at the chance she got and it was never one thing that they could debate.

The same was true for Ruru. Ruru would do the same for Hawi and maybe that was what Ruru had done, even though Hawi still was confused about it all. Maybe there was a point in Ruru's sacrifice, but why was it so confusing for them then?

"Malika, Elodie, Theo, and Rio, you will be in charge of the Sicario team and everything that happens in the pack. My sister will remain the pack alpha with the help of my protector," Hawi said and the Savasci knights gasped in surprise.

"You're giving up your protector? The woman who is supposed to serve you and protect you from everything?" Rio asked clearly not understanding what the fuck was going on here.

There had been many insane moments when they had thought Hawi was losing her mind, but this was a general worry for them all. Malika was the realm's greatest protector.

She was the one person who could save people with just her name… like Awuor Hawi. She was lethal and by far the best protector that the realm had gotten. Leaving Malika behind was a terrier idea, and surely Hawi had to have known that too.

"I see the faces you're giving me, you think I'm insane," Hawi chuckled when Mbali watched intently she hadn't heard her name in the mentions and it worried her for a moment. Did this mean that she was being dismissed?

Oh, Mbali was not sure where she would be at, but despite her sudden anxiety she chose to trust Hawi. The mad woman never did things without thinking, and this was one of them. But what was her reason this time though?

"Why?" Malika asked, after a short silence. She was trying to wrap her head around the fact that Hawi was leaving them again and even her behind. Malika loved Elodie, she adored her mate, but it had always been duty over love for her. Surely Hawi knew that too.

"Why what, Malika?" Hawi asked and Malika sighed.

"Duty over any relationship, remember? Why leave me behind when you're going out there? I am your protector, Mistress. Elodie knows that, hell, the entire realm knows that and understands it, which is why it doesn't make any sense to me," Malika said.

Hawi smiled at her like she had expected this.

Of course, if Hawi was being honest with herself she hadn't intended for any of this alignment. She had only ever wanted to be with her Ruru and wait and hope for the day her mate was given back to her.

Rukiya was an immortal and she couldn't die. It wasn't that hard of logic for anyone, really, because it was more of common sense than whatever the fuck was going on here. But what else could Hawi do to make that a reality for her?

Her mate was gone.

The love of her life had left her alone.

Granted, she had left her with the Savasci knights but Hawi felt lonely. She hated the mess and seeing the protectors carry her mate away was all she needed to know that nothing was ever going to be the same for her.

"I know. And that is what you will be doing here. You will be protecting everything I hold dear, Malika. My sister, my knights, and my people. They are all under your protection, so you need to make sure that none of them have an extra scratch on them that I didn't leave.

"No wars should reach them. Nothing should give them sleepless nights when you're here. Protect them with your life, protect them like you would protect me because when I come back, I don't expect to find everyone I left.

"Unless they died by natural causes, which is not something my knights will endure. They all have the immortality spell still and you're that anchor. That shouldn't be hard for you, no?" Hawi asked earnestly.

The Savasci knights who had been ready to speak their minds, went dead silent. They had known that Hawi cared for them all, and despised everything they had gone through together and the chaos along the way, but this was next level.

She was leaving behind her best warrior for their sake and frankly, that was way more terrifying than having Hawi close to them. This was crazy and they didn't know what to say to it for the first time.

"How long will you be away, Mistress?" Malika asked, even though the urge to ask about what Hawi would do with her sister lingered on her lips. She wanted to ask that, but she knew she couldn't question her.

They may have been family but they were also subjected to the mad woman. They were there to serve him regardless of what that meant to their bonds with each other.

"I don't know…"
