The Rejected Alpha's Vengeance

Chapter 584: The Unchanging Scent of Home

[HAWI]

"No. You're not doing that," Mbali said in warning, like she was not going to take such a risk with the most unstable person in all of history.

Perhaps it was because she was scared Hawi would try to hurt them into limbo or she just didn't have enough strength to deal with whatever antics Hawin was about to pull this time.

"What?" Hawi asked as she created a portal, wondering why Mbali was not for it. However, as she looked into Mbali's eyes, she saw the uncertainty and Hawi was tempted to smile at the way that Mbali was being careful.

However, she didn't. Instead, she shut the portal she had created right before it could reach Sicario and she stared at Mbali, waiting to hear what she was supposed to do this time.

"Amina will create the portal home," Mbali said with a tone of finality, making Amina stare at her while Hawi whined in objection like she had given Mbali reasons to trust her over the few times she had created portals.

For a moment there, Hawi wondered if Mbali remembered the memory fragment that she had eliminated with Islinda. The memory of that portal that Hawi hand made it to Club Hernia with her.

It was not like she had ever created a perspective that would make Mbali distrust her. That had been the only one and it was not intentional. Still, she didn't argue with Mbali. This time, she let the Lycan do what she wanted.

"Me?" Amina asked, not sure where this was headed. She was tempted to think that Mbali trusted her that much, but she knew that they had to be some sort of a play here, given the way that Mbali was scowling at a pouting Hawi.

Maybe it was that obvious that Mbali didn't trust Hawi to create the portal back home or maybe it was because the situation wasn't certain. And with Hawi being the one who suggested the voyage home, they had to wait and see what the fuck would happen.

"It's alright… She doesn't trust me to go through the portal with you guys since all of this was my idea," Hawi said with a light laugh, even though it was the truth. They had survived so many things and Mbali clearly knew her better than she had imagined.

Hawi wanted to laugh at the idea of being kept in love by Mbali but she couldn't because right now, it was obvious that she would be going home. It didn't matter that she would be going freely or if she had to be wrapped up in chains.

That was all Hawi needed to see in Mbali's eyes before she realized that the Lycan warrior wasn't about to joke with their return home. They had to go together, or no one would be going home. It was that simple.

"Oh," Amina said, unsure of what else she was to say to this long game. The sooner they got out of this realm, the sooner they would be back home living the lives they should have had when the great war was won that long night.

Amina knew that there was something else here and she wished that it wasn't the kind that hurt Mbali because she wasn't sure she would melt anyone, including Hawi trying to hurt the woman that she loved.

That wasn't how shit always worked and no matter how hard they would try to make things make sense there was only so much they could do before exploding at each other with a regard for life. That wasn't the intention, truly.

"You're going through first, and don't you dare use your magic to manipulate the destination. If you do that, I'll instigate the rest of the knights and we will abandon Sicario to seek you out," Mbali said to Hawi once Amina created the port.

Her tone was simple and stern and yet her words held the kind of weight that made Hawi's heart warm. It made her feel like she belonged and was loved, not to mention the fact that it gave her the hope that everything would get better over time.

Granted, Hawi knew that Mbali chose Amina to create the portal because Amina wouldn't try to do anything that would upset Mbali, but even that didn't change her excitement. She just wanted to be on the same team as the love of her life.

"But–" Hawi tried and Mbali glared at her in warning. Mbali knew that this wouldn't end at this moment if they started bickering with Hawi and she ended Hawi to not change her mind about home.

Maybe it was because Mbali missed their friends or that she just wanted a change of environment, not to mention she wanted Hawi to never feel lonely. With her and Amina on this side of the realm, Hawi would have always felt like the third wheel even if that wasn't what had been intended.

She would have been lonely for so long and her heart would have pushed her to do things to numb the emotional pain she had been feeling. It was the kind that Mbali was all too familiar with and she didn't want Hawi to go back to that point.

It wasn't the best of places for a girl like her and Mbali knew that a little too well.

"Go in, or I'll tell Elodie about that apparent ghost who stole her bottle from the winery," Mbali threatened.

Hawi instantly went pale.

What she had done was one thing that Elodie would have her head for, and her sister was scary as fuck. That wasn't the kind that she wanted to run into back home, so defeatedly she stared at Mbali before looking around for them one time and went in through the portal.

She didn't have that much of an option anyway.

"Winery? The greatest evil and face of insanity just got threatened by a wine bottle? Wow," Amina commented once Hawi was gone. She was in the kinds of shit about the knights that she hadn't thought possible.

All those years ago at the clearing with Nik, she had also seen them act like they were the dumbest of creatures when in reality they were walking lethal weapons. The duality was something that Amina had never been able to understand even to this day.

Perhaps there would come a day for her to be on the same page as them, however insane that thought was. But then again, if Mbali had forgiven her, anything was possible at this point, right?

"You still haven't even heard or seen the half of it. Anyway, come let's go home. It's been a while since anywhere felt like we belonged," Mbali said and Amina pulled her into a gentle yet reassuring hug.

There was so much the Russel warlock wanted to express, but right now they didn't have much time.

Amina knew that this was one of the craziest things she was getting herself into and while a part of her was scared shitless of the crew that had wiped out her entire family, the other part was glad that life was slowly meaning something for the both of them.

She would do whatever it took to be in Mbali's good books either way.

"You are my world, Hermosa," Amina whispered as she held onto Mbali a little longer.

She didn't want to go through the portal because of the possibility that Hawi wolf would hunt her down, but she had Mbali and she was choosing to hope that Malika wouldn't use that blade she had handed over to take her out.

"You're thinking too much. We may be crazy, but not crazy enough to make one of us sad," Mali said in reassurance like she could see the wheels spinning in Amina's head. She couldn't blame the woman though.

They all didn't have the best track record out there as the Savasci knights. They had done things that even the moon goddess questioned herself about each and every time. This bunch was insane in so many ways but it was their way of life.

"I trust you, princess," Amina added before they went through the portal to Sicario, hoping that all would be well and that she wouldn't be eliminated on sight. Perhaps this was one of those times when Mbali would have to pray for divinity to make sense right?

Trust was something that Amina Russel never had for anyone and sometimes not even her brother but with Mbali it came a little naturally. Maybe It was because she had all down her defenses whenever it came to this wolf Lycan that it didn't matter anymore.

"I know," Mbali said calmly, like she didn't want Amina to feel anything that she didn't want her to. She was being careful and Amina would have expected it, even as they went through the portal together, hands in each other's.

Sicario was bustling with life that evening when a portal breached their wards. It was something unusual that should have shocked them at some point in time, but it didn't. If anything, they were too calm even when the shift was obvious.

Perhaps it was because they had already felt that kind of energy earlier and it was familiar to them. This was the same energy that they had felt when Amina had created a portal that led her and Trey out a week ago.

It wasn't usual for the wolves to be that calm, truly, when there were Russels around them, but they had trusted their knights to make the decision for them. They knew the Savasci knights wouldn't ever let anything happen to the new Sicario they had all worked so hard to bring to life.

"What is that?"
