Chapter 27: The Shattered Past
Emma's eyes fluttered open, her mind reeling from the darkness. She was lying in a cold, damp cell, with stone walls and iron bars. A faint glow emanated from the walls, casting eerie shadows on the floor.
As she struggled to sit up, Emma realized that her memories were shattered, like broken glass. She remembered fragments of her past, but they were disjointed and unclear. The Master, Alex, Sarah... they were all there, but their roles in her life were murky.
A figure emerged from the shadows, its features indistinct. "Welcome back, Emma," it said, its voice low and menacing. "We've been waiting for you."
Emma's heart pounded in her chest as the figure drew closer. Who was it? And what did they want from her?
The figure stepped into the faint light, revealing a woman with piercing green eyes. Emma's mind recoiled, recognizing the eyes but not the face.
"Who are you?" Emma demanded, trying to keep her voice steady.
The woman smiled, her lips curling upward. "I'm someone who knows you, Emma," she said. "Someone who knows your secrets."
Emma's mind reeled, trying to place the woman. And then, like a key turning in a lock, the memories flooded back.
This was Elizabeth, the Master's loyal servant. But why was she here? And what did she want from Emma?
Elizabeth's smile grew wider, as if she knew Emma's thoughts. "You're a pawn in a much larger game, Emma," she said. "A game of power and deception."
Emma's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with possibilities. What game was Elizabeth talking about? And how could Emma escape?
As she looked into Elizabeth's eyes, Emma knew that she had to be careful. One wrong move, and she would be trapped forever.
