Chapter 28:
Chapter 028: I, Qi Lin, Never Betray My Friends!:
“What an idiot. He got caught cheating and still acts so arrogant. He’s definitely getting expelled. Don’t you think so, Lan Yuxi?”
Seeing Qi Lin openly admit to cheating, Wang Cheng’s face lit up with satisfaction.
He leaned down and asked Lan Yuxi.
But at that moment, Lan Yuxi had buried her face in her arms, not even wanting to speak.
She had a terrible feeling—Qi Lin would definitely drag her down with him.
However, Wang Cheng saw that Lan Yuxi wasn’t responding and assumed she was still defending Qi Lin.
“Hmph, it’s all Qi Lin’s fault for corrupting Yuxi. Once that bastard is expelled, she’ll go back to being her lively and innocent self.”
Wang Cheng clenched his fists, his jealousy toward Qi Lin intensifying.
“Qi Lin, hand over the answer sheet you cheated from.”
Mei Sanyuan had no patience for Qi Lin’s carefree attitude. His expression was stern.
“Here, this is what I copied from.”
Qi Lin grinned and obediently handed over the sheet.
His cooperation caught Mei Sanyuan off guard.
He picked up the sheet and examined it, but as he did, his expression grew more serious.
After grading homework daily, he immediately recognized the handwriting.
And the moment he realized who had written it, the situation became much more complicated.
“Tell me, where did you get this answer sheet?”
Mei Sanyuan still asked, though deep down, he didn’t want to believe that his most trusted student would do such a thing.
“I may be a slacker, but I never betray my friends. Give up, teacher. I’m not going to say that the class monitor gave it to me.”
Qi Lin put on an unyielding expression.
At first, everyone was deceived by his performance, thinking that he was genuinely loyal.
Even Lan Yuxi felt a little touched when she heard the first half of his words.
This guy had bullied her so much, yet at a crucial moment, he still had a sense of loyalty.
But the moment she heard his last sentence, Lan Yuxi burst into tears from sheer anger.
Qi Lin, you damn bastard!
If you were going to sell me out, why did you bother saying all that nonsense?
Wasn’t this just a pointless roundabout way of humiliating her?
For the first time, the usually gentle and quiet school belle felt the urge to curse someone.
The shock came in waves.
The next moment, the entire class was stunned.
All eyes turned toward Lan Yuxi.
Qi Lin’s answer sheet was given to him by Lan Yuxi?
Was this real?
If the class monitor was caught cheating, it would be the biggest scandal in Huashi No.1 High School!
But the one most devastated by this revelation was Wang Cheng.
Hearing Qi Lin claim that Lan Yuxi had given him the answers, he refused to believe it.
“Qi Lin, watch your mouth. Don’t drag others down with you! Lan Yuxi is nothing like you. She’s an outstanding student, a model of academic excellence, and our class monitor. How could she possibly stoop to your level and cheat?”
Wang Cheng glared at Qi Lin angrily.
In truth, it would have been better if he had stayed quiet.
Lan Yuxi could have just kept her head down and ignored everything.
But now, with Wang Cheng painting her as a perfect, morally upright student, when the truth came out, wouldn’t that just make her downfall even more humiliating?
Lan Yuxi couldn’t take it anymore. Tears welled up in her eyes as she choked out, “Wang Cheng, haven’t you caused enough trouble? Fine, I admit it! I was the one who gave Qi Lin the answers. I told you not to report him, but you wouldn’t listen. Now look what’s happened—my reputation is ruined. Are you happy now?”
Wang Cheng: “…”
He never expected this outcome.
The teacher hadn’t even finished investigating, yet Lan Yuxi had already confessed.
And from the way she reacted, it was obvious she wasn’t lying.
Receiving such a cruel answer, Wang Cheng stood there in disbelief.
He couldn’t understand how things had escalated to this point.
Why would Lan Yuxi give Qi Lin the answers? Why would she cheat?
He had reported Qi Lin, yet in the end, the one who got hurt the most was the girl he loved.
A deep sense of regret sank into Wang Cheng’s heart.
He felt utterly defeated.
If he had known that the answers came from Lan Yuxi, he never would have reported Qi Lin.
“No wonder Yuxi looked so disappointed in me earlier. I really am an idiot.”
“Now everything is ruined. If Yuxi gets expelled because of me, what will I do?”
His heart was filled with sorrow.
“The rest of you, continue your exams. Qi Lin, Lan Yuxi, come with me to the office.”
Mei Sanyuan didn’t make a public scene. Instead, he had the two of them follow him.
Inside the office.
Qi Lin leaned casually against the wall, looking completely unfazed.
Lan Yuxi, on the other hand, had her head down, softly sobbing. She was terrified.
She feared being publicly shamed by the school.
She feared the judgmental stares of her classmates.
But most of all, she feared her father finding out and being utterly disappointed in her.
From childhood, she had always been the center of attention, praised and admired.
For the first time, she was experiencing what it felt like to be a normal student facing punishment.
“You two stay here and reflect on your actions. I need to step out for a moment.”
Mei Sanyuan didn’t reprimand them right away.
He was heading to the principal’s office.
Qi Lin was a wealthy second-generation kid, and his father had recently donated a large sum to build a library.
Lan Yuxi’s father was the city’s chief of criminal investigations, a man of considerable influence.
These two students couldn’t be treated like ordinary rule-breakers. He needed to discuss the situation with the principal first.
