Chapter 37
Chapter 37: The Battle for Mom, Chen Aiyi’s Daughter Chen Shuyi:
“Of course, if you really want to eat it, it’s not impossible.”
Qi Lin’s eyes swept up and down Chen Xueyao, clicking his tongue as he spoke.
“Sister Xueyao, you could trade something for it.”
He chuckled.
“Qi Lin, you bastard! What do you take me for? I would never trade myself for something like that!”
“Rest assured, I will never eat a single thing from your house again!”
Chen Xueyao’s beautiful eyes turned red, and tears slid down her cheeks.
Qi Lin’s words had completely shattered her self-esteem.
Without even bothering to eat, she wiped her tears and ran straight to her room, probably to cry in private.
Watching her flee in tears, Qi Lin felt no guilt at all. Instead, he smirked.
“Falling apart so easily? Such weak tolerance… I seriously doubt if this is the same Chen Xueyao from my previous life—the ruthless businesswoman who treated me with cold indifference. Bullying this version of her isn’t even satisfying.”
Shaking his head, he walked to the mahogany table and sat down, ready for dinner.
Whether Chen Xueyao starved or not was none of his business.
If a grown woman couldn’t even feed herself, what was the point of existing in this world?
“Aunt Chen, is dinner ready?”
“Hurry up and bring out my favorites—braised pork ribs, steamed king crab, spicy eel, and shrimp custard.”
Qi Lin shouted loudly, deliberately making sure Chen Xueyao, who was hiding in her room crying, could hear him.
“I used to think you were just a spoiled rich kid—lazy but not truly bad.”
“But now I realize I was wrong. You’re not just a spoiled rich kid; you’re a scumbag who enjoys bullying women. And that woman happens to be your childhood friend.”
Before Aunt Chen could respond, a cold voice came from behind Qi Lin.
He turned around in surprise.
A young woman stood there.
Her long hair cascaded down like a waterfall, her features were delicate, and her oval-shaped face carried a look of disdain.
She wore a floral dress, and her straight, slender legs were adorned with thin-strapped sandals. Under the warm lighting, her fair and flawless feet gleamed like jade.
“You must be Aunt Chen’s daughter, Chen Shuyi.”
With just one glance, Qi Lin remembered who she was.
Chen Shuyi had been about to mock him further, but before she could, Aunt Chen walked out of the kitchen, carrying a dish.
“Shuyi, is that how you talk to Xiao Lin? Those two kids just had a little argument. I’ve watched Xiao Lin grow up—he’s not a bad person.”
Aunt Chen shot her daughter a playful glare, warning her not to speak carelessly.
“You call that ‘not a bad person’? Mom, did you even hear what he just said? He wanted his own cousin to trade her body for snacks! This isn’t just about personality—it’s about having no morals at all! He doesn’t even deserve to be called human!”
Chen Shuyi didn’t live in Qi Lin’s house, so she wasn’t afraid of him in the slightest.
Qi Lin leaned back lazily. “Sister Shuyi, are you deaf at such a young age? I said she could trade something, like cleaning the house or something similar. When did I ever say she had to trade her body?”
When it came to twisting words and being shameless, even ten Chen Shuyis weren’t a match for him.
“You—!”
She was instantly speechless.
After all, Qi Lin hadn’t actually said anything explicit earlier.
But his tone had been full of innuendo! She was certain that’s what he had meant!
Unable to argue with Qi Lin, Chen Shuyi turned to her mother instead. “Mom, I have a job now. I earn a salary. You don’t need to work so hard as a housekeeper anymore. Please listen to me and come home with me. You deserve to enjoy life.”
It turned out that Chen Shuyi had come to Qi Lin’s house today to take her mother away.
Aunt Chen had been working as a housekeeper for Qi Lin’s family for over ten years. Since she was always around, Chen Shuyi had visited the house often and knew exactly what kind of person Qi Lin was.
She didn’t want her mother to keep living under someone else’s roof.
But there was another reason.
Chen Shuyi had always been jealous of Qi Lin.
In traditional families, people believed that having a son meant having someone to rely on in old age. But Aunt Chen had only one child—her.
It had always been a regret in her life.
Having watched Qi Lin grow up, Aunt Chen gradually began treating him like her own son.
As Chen Shuyi had said, even though she no longer needed to work as a housekeeper, she still came to take care of Qi Lin every day.
Because in her heart, she couldn’t let go of this “son.”
Growing up, Aunt Chen had always treated Qi Lin better than her own daughter.
That was why Chen Shuyi hated him.
She absolutely despised this spoiled rich kid who had stolen her mother’s attention.
At the same time, she wanted to prove to her mother that even without a son, a daughter like her could support her, bring her pride, and take care of her in old age.
“Shuyi, I’m only in my forties—why would I retire so early? I want to work a few more years and save up for your dowry.”
Aunt Chen shook her head, rejecting her daughter’s suggestion.
Earlier, before Qi Lin had returned, Chen Shuyi had spent a long time trying to persuade her mother in the kitchen.
But it hadn’t worked.
Her mother refused to budge.
Frustrated, Chen Shuyi’s tone became agitated. “Mom, you just don’t want to leave this spoiled rich kid, do you? What’s so great about him? Is he really more important than your own daughter?”
“Fine! Maybe not now, but what about in the future? When I have a husband and children, are you saying you’d rather take care of this rich kid than your own grandchildren?”
