Chapter 35: Blackmailing Ignatius
It was that small courtyard again.
When they arrived at the door, Aisha knocked on the door a few times and said respectfully towards the inside, "Master Ignatius, Mr. Davis is here."
As soon as the words fell, they heard a sound of something breaking inside. Then there was a flurry of hasty footsteps, and the door suddenly opened. It was Ignatius who opened the door in person.
Looking at Ignatius's flustered appearance, Alistair sneered, "Master Ignatius is a big shot in Silvermoon Valley. It's really quite surprising for you to receive me in person. I'm truly honored."
Ignatius gave a dry laugh and said, "What are you saying, Mr. Davis? You are a distinguished guest. I'm sorry for not greeting you from afar. Please don't take it to heart."
Alistair snorted coldly, and then motioned for Liam Smith to enter the small house directly.
Ignatius's face looked a bit ugly. Then he took the plate from Aisha's hand and said, "You can go down now."
"Yes." Aisha naturally didn't dare to disobey.
She closed the door and turned to leave. But before she left, she heard Ignatius's words, "Mr. Davis, I didn't expect your esteemed presence. It really makes my humble abode shine with glory."
There was a clear hint of flattery in his words.
Aisha was extremely shocked. Master Ignatius was a big shot in Silvermoon Valley. There were probably only a few people in the entire Silvermoon Valley who could make him treat them with such respect. She didn't expect Mr. Davis to be so powerful.
Liam Smith didn't stand on ceremony with Ignatius either. He directly sat in the main seat, and Alistair said, "Master Ignatius, you seem to be living quite comfortably."
Ignatius forced a smile and said, "Mr. Davis, you're joking."
Alistair's tone suddenly turned cold. "It's really difficult to meet Master Ignatius."
Ignatius thought something was wrong and asked cautiously, "What do you mean by that, Mr. Davis?"
Alistair snorted. "In front of your courtyard, I was stopped by two guarding pupils. They said I wasn't qualified to see you. It really made me quite depressed."
"Those blind things! They have no eyes. Please forgive them, Mr. Davis. I'll teach them a good lesson later." Ignatius said indignantly.
Wiping the cold sweat from his forehead secretly, Ignatius had already cursed the guarding pupils countless times in his heart. This Mr. Davis in front of him was a master who could easily dispel his Soul Power. His cultivation realm was definitely above his own. If he accidentally offended him, not only he himself but the entire auction house might be in trouble.
With a wave of his hand, Alistair continued, "There's no need to teach them a lesson. I've already forgiven them."
"Mr. Davis, your magnanimity is truly admirable." Ignatius clasped his fists and said, "I wonder what brings you here this time, Mr. Davis?"
Alistair smiled strangely and said, "It's nothing major, just a small matter. I just want to return something to Master Ignatius.""Return something to me?" Ignatius sensed something was wrong.
Without saying anything more, Alistair signaled Liam Smith to take out the storage bag that previously had Ignatius's Soul Power in it and place it on the table. The things inside had already been transferred to another storage bag.
Suddenly seeing the storage bag on the table, Ignatius's face turned ugly. He coughed a few times and tried to hide his embarrassment. "I don't know what you mean, Mr. Davis."
"It doesn't mean anything. I just can't afford such a generous gift, so I came here specifically to return it." Alistair emphasized the words "generous gift" particularly.
Ignatius knew exactly what Alistair meant. This was clearly coming to ask for an explanation.
He had originally thought that the other party would come to question him immediately after discovering that he had left his Soul Power in the storage bag. But after so many days passed and there was no movement, he thought the other party had already forgiven him.
But unexpectedly, he appeared again.
Ignatius knew that it was too late to say any polite words now. He quickly apologized, "No one is perfect. I hope Mr. Davis won't take it too seriously."
"I can let it go, but I don't know what some people will do." Alistair said sarcastically.
"I wonder what requirements you have, Mr. Davis. If there's anything I can do, I will definitely do my best."
Alistair chuckled. "I'm afraid what I want is something you can't do. But I do have some things here that I need to sell. Please take a look."
"Mr. Davis's items are surely of high quality. I'm very honored to have this opportunity." Ignatius flattered.
Nodding, Alistair secretly signaled Liam Smith to take out a wooden box and hand it to Ignatius. "You're a pharmacist. I'm sure you're not stumped by elixirs, right?"
"Of course not." Ignatius took the wooden box and opened it. Inside was an elixir exuding a faint fragrance. Based on his years of experience in refining elixirs, he immediately knew the origin of this elixir. But he still held it in front of his eyes and pretended to examine it carefully.
Then he said, "This is a top-quality Golden-scaled Herb."
"How many Soul crystals is it worth?" Alistair said indifferently.
Ignatius rolled his eyes and then said seriously, "It should be able to sell seventy Soul crystals."
"Only seventy Soul crystals?" Alistair seemed a bit disappointed.
Seeing this, Ignatius quickly changed his words. "But this Golden-scaled Herb of Mr. Davis has a long history and is extremely rare. It's worth at least one hundred and twenty Soul crystals."
"One hundred and twenty Soul crystals is just so-so." Alistair changed the subject. "I have another Golden-scaled Herb here. I wonder how much it's worth."
Liam Smith cooperatively took out another Golden-scaled Herb. Compared with the previous one, this one was better in all aspects.
Ignatius felt like he had shot himself in the foot. He had deliberately overestimated the price of the previous Golden-scaled Herb at seventy Soul crystals to curry favor, and then he had to add another fifty, which was already twice the normal market price.
Now there was another one of better quality. He couldn't say it was worth less than the previous one, could he?
Ignatius gritted his teeth and said with a bitter smile, "This one is even rarer. It's worth at least one hundred and forty Soul crystals."
Alistair nodded and stopped making things difficult for Ignatius. He merely instructed Liam Smith to take out wooden boxes one after another from the storage bag. Inside each box were all second-level elixirs.
As for the prices, under Alistair's deliberate efforts, almost all of them were sold to Ignatius at prices more than twice the market price.
Ignatius clearly had no choice but to accept it. It was like swallowing his pride. After all, he felt guilty towards Mr. Davis. He might as well think of it as paying to avoid trouble.
For a third-class pharmacist like himself, these Soul crystals were just a small amount and didn't matter much. It was quite a bargain to be able to build a good relationship with a powerful person.
Finally, the Fire Ganoderma Lucidum came out.
Unlike the previous second-level elixirs, when Ignatius saw the Fire Ganoderma Lucidum, his eyes lit up, and he almost drooled.
He said in disbelief, "This Fire Ganoderma Lucidum is at least a hundred years old. There hasn't been such a good Fire Ganoderma Lucidum in Silvermoon Valley for ten years."
This wasn't just flattery from Ignatius. This Fire Ganoderma Lucidum was indeed excellent.
"Price." Alistair lazily spat out two words.
It was about the price again. Ignatius's face looked ugly, but he still forced a smile. "Third-level elixirs are rare in Silvermoon Valley. This Fire Ganoderma Lucidum is worth at least one thousand four hundred Soul crystals."
"Master Ignatius, I'm giving your auction house priority because we've met before. Otherwise, I would have already taken it to the commercial street of the three major families." Alistair said with a faint smile.
Ignatius knew exactly what Alistair meant. He was clearly indicating that he wasn't satisfied with this price and urging him to increase it.
Although Ignatius had already offered a price 20% higher than the normal price, since "Fane Davis" wasn't satisfied, he could only increase the price now.
He said with a bitter smile, "Mr. Davis is right. In that case, I think one thousand five hundred Soul crystals should be fine."
This price was definitely the best Ignatius could offer.
However, Alistair still seemed dissatisfied. He pretended to be helpless and said, "I have a problem. If I'm not happy, I might go crazy. When I'm crazy, I'm even afraid of myself."
Ignatius was on the verge of tears. This was a blatant threat and blackmail. But he had no way to deal with it.
He gave "Fane Davis" a resentful look. Helpless, Ignatius steeled his heart and said in a deep voice, "One thousand seven hundred Soul crystals. This is the highest price."
The last sentence "the highest price" was naturally aimed at Alistair, indicating that he couldn't offer any more. This was Ignatius's bottom line.
Alistair saw that he had pushed Ignatius to the limit and decided to stop while he was ahead. He pretended to be wronged and said, "One thousand seven hundred it is. I'm too lazy to go to other places."
Ignatius rolled his eyes and secretly cursed in his heart: You're taking advantage of it and still acting like you're at a disadvantage. If you really went to other places, you'd be lucky to get one thousand two hundred.
Holding the Fire Ganoderma Lucidum, Ignatius didn't feel happy at all about getting the Third-level Elixir. He was just filled with helplessness.
"Does Mr. Davis have any other elixirs to sell?" Ignatius asked in a low voice.
Ignatius asked this question with a lot of trepidation. If there was another Third-level Elixir, it was estimated that all the Soul crystals he had saved by living frugally in the past few years would be gone.
"No. If I have any in the future, I'll still come to the auction house." Alistair smiled faintly. "I believe that with your character, you won't cheat an honest person like me."
An honest person? Bullshit. You're a sly old fox. Ignatius thought to himself.
But on the surface, he still forced a smile and said, "Mr. Davis is right. Please take a seat. I'll go and get the Soul crystals now."
Since everything had been more or less settled, Ignatius didn't delay any longer. He quickly went to get the Soul crystals and hand them over to "Fane Davis" so that he could have some peace.
"Go ahead. I'll wait for you here."
Ignatius nodded faintly and got up to walk towards the door. When he opened the door halfway.
Alistair's voice sounded again from behind, as if he was talking to himself, but his voice was extremely loud: "I've been thinking about changing to a storage bag with a larger space every day. Now I finally have the Soul crystals, and my dream is about to come true. Everyone in the auction house is so kind."
Ignatius almost stumbled—he. He had to add a high-level storage bag...
