The Rise of Vikramaditya: Bharat’s Unbroken Destiny

Chapter 40: Chapter 40: The Siege Tightens – A Test of Will

The Mughal Army Regroups

Dawn broke over Chittorgarh, but it brought no peace. Smoke from the previous night's Rajput raid still lingered in the air, mixing with the scent of blood and burnt supplies.

Jahangir stood at the edge of his war camp, his face dark with fury. The Rajputs had humiliated him. They had set fire to his supply tents, slaughtered his men in their sleep, and vanished into the night like ghosts.

He could not allow this insult to stand.

"Asaf Khan," he said, turning to his trusted general. "We will not give these Rajputs another chance to mock us. Prepare for a full-scale assault. We take Chittorgarh by force."

Asaf Khan hesitated. "My Emperor, their defenses are strong. We have lost two waves already. Another reckless attack might cost us even more—"

Jahangir cut him off with a glare. "Then we do not attack blindly. We starve them. We burn them out. We break them piece by piece."

And with that, the Mughals began their most ruthless tactic yet.

The Siege Tightens: Mewar Under Pressure

The Mughal army completely surrounded Chittorgarh, blocking all possible supply routes. No food. No reinforcements. No escape.

For the first time since the siege began, hunger crept into the fortress.

Amar Singh stood at the ramparts, watching the enemy lines. The Mughals had shifted their strategy—they no longer rushed the walls in reckless waves. Instead, they had set up their own defensive barriers, catapults, and trenches.

They were waiting.

His men, proud Rajputs, still stood strong—but he could see the exhaustion in their eyes. Supplies were dwindling. The enemy had begun using fire arrows, setting parts of the city alight.

And worst of all, water was running low.

The siege had become a battle of endurance. Who would break first?

---

The Mughals' New Strategy: Tunnels of Death

Jahangir was not content to simply wait. He knew that if he could not take Chittorgarh from above, he would take it from below.

His engineers were given a new order: dig tunnels beneath the fortress walls.

Night and day, hundreds of men dug silently, moving closer to the walls of Chittorgarh. Their goal was to plant explosives, causing the walls to collapse from within.

But Amar Singh was not blind.

One night, as he walked the fortress grounds, he felt the earth tremble beneath his feet.

Something was wrong.

Immediately, he ordered his men to investigate. The Rajputs began listening to the ground, placing their ears to the stone floors.

Then, they heard it—the faint sound of digging.

The Mughals were trying to bring the fortress down from below.

Amar Singh reacted at once. He ordered his best warriors to dig counter-tunnels.

And so, deep beneath the battlefield, a new war began.

---

The Underground Battle: Rajputs Strike Back

As the Mughal miners inched closer, they suddenly heard a noise—swords being drawn.

Before they could react, Rajput warriors emerged from the darkness, attacking them in the tunnels.

Underground, in the tightest of spaces, a brutal fight erupted.

Swords clashed, blood spilled onto the dirt, and the tunnels became death traps.

The Rajputs set fire to the tunnels, collapsing them and burying the Mughal miners alive.

When Jahangir heard the news, he was furious.

Another plan, foiled by the Rajputs.

But this time, he had one final weapon left.

---

The Final Blow: The Mughal Cannons

Jahangir, now desperate, ordered the full use of Mughal cannons.

The Mughals had always relied on superior firepower, and now, they would unleash everything they had.

Massive bronze cannons were positioned outside the walls, their barrels aimed directly at the fortress.

BOOM!

The first shot shook the earth, smashing into the stone walls.

BOOM! BOOM!

One after another, the cannons pounded Chittorgarh, tearing through its defenses.

For the first time, Rajput warriors faltered. The walls that had protected them for so long were beginning to crumble.

---

Amar Singh's Decision: Fight to the Last Breath

Amar Singh knew they could not hold forever. But surrender was not an option.

He gathered his generals—Rana Karan Singh, Udai Bhan, and the bravest warriors of Mewar.

"We stand at the edge of history," he said, his voice calm but firm. "The Mughals think they can break us. But they do not understand. We are Rajputs. We do not kneel."

His men nodded, fire burning in their eyes.

"We have held this fort for months. Let them come. We will meet them with steel and fire."

And so, the Rajputs prepared for their final stand.

---

The Storm Before the Final Battle

As night fell, a cold wind blew across Chittorgarh.

In the Mughal camp, Jahangir stood before his assembled army.

"Tomorrow, this war ends," he declared. "Tomorrow, we crush Chittorgarh once and for all."

The soldiers roared in approval.

But in the fortress, the Rajputs stood with swords drawn, unshaken.

They knew what was coming. And they would not run.

Tomorrow, the final battle would begin.
