The Ruthless Alpha's Sweet Mate

Chapter 16: Paranormal annoyance

Her eyes flashed with amber and the whole room instantly became silent. Everyone could feel the angry aura surrounding the Alpha. Alpha Bernard's eyes flashed with concern and he walked towards Nox, placing a firm hand on her shoulder.

"What's wrong, sweetheart?" He asked, Luna Helen by his side, both staring at Nox worryingly.

Aylin herself had already placed Nox's hand in her own, silently comforting her mate.

Nox glanced at all of them, feeling her anger rising again at the thought of any of them being in danger. She steeled herself, calming down before speaking.

"This war has just become much more difficult than we had initially anticipated." She spoke, the subtle anger in her tone clear.

"What do you mean, more difficult?" Marcus asked, a frown gracing his face as well, Delilah tense beside him.

"I will explain, don't worry." She said, smiling gently at her own mate to reassure her.

"However, first things first. Balor, contact the paranormal council." She spoke, and the room went silent again.

What the hell? The paranormal council? Why would they need to contact the Paranormal Council?

As Balor went off to do what his Alpha asked him to, Aylin looked at her mate with confusion in her eyes.

"What's the paranormal council?" She asked tentatively, embarrassed to have asked the question.

"Simply put; It's the council that was created to both manage and monitor all the paranormal species, to ensure both the safety of the species and the safety of the humans from the species," Annalise said, walking up to the little group.

" It consists of representatives of all the paranormal species; the werewolves, witches, vampires, lycans, Fae, and shapeshifters. They act like the neutral party and because of that, council members are forbidden to interfere with anything that goes on in the paranormal realm; unless it requires their intervention. Which begs the question; why are we contacting the council?" Annalise asked, holding her chin in thought.

Before Nox answered, a set of seven screens rose from the ground, opening and showcasing the faces of the seven members of the council to the people gathered.

"Alpha Scarlett Nox." a male voice spoke; " To what do I owe this pleasant surprise?" The man in question had long, platinum-coloured hair and piercing ruby eyes.

He was Altan, the leader of the paranormal council. No one was sure what species he was, and he never revealed the information.

Thus, so many speculations came about, one of them being that he was a descendant of the long-lost race of dragons, this entirely due to his monstrous magical power. And that was saying quite a lot, considering his dexterity as well, especially since no one knew his age.

"Your Excellency Altan," Nox began; " I have a complaint to lobby." She spoke, curtly.

He raised a brow in surprise.

" A complaint?" He asked, his eyes narrowing.

"Yes, a complaint, Your Excellency. I would like to kindly inform you to keep your subordinates in check. After all, a subordinate is the representation of their master, and thus bears the great burden of the master's reputation." Nox spoke.

A loud bang sounded, startling most of the people in the room, except Nox and her little group.

"How dare you speak to His Excellency Altan that way! Are you that eager to die?" A man spoke. He had piercing teal eyes and long auburn hair. He was the King of the Faes; Rowan.

"Of course not, Lord Rowan. I merely expressed my discontent as a subject under His Excellency Altan." Nox stated, shrugging.

A beautiful, melodic laugh pierced the air, turning all attention to the source of the sound. It came from a beautiful woman with long, brown hair and beautiful hazel-coloured eyes.

"My, my, Alpha Scarlett, you grow audacious by the day." The woman spoke, her melodic voice thick with feigned concern and obvious mockery.

The woman was the one person Nox wanted to strangle; Freya, queen of the witches.

" I could say the same, Lady Freya, only that I am not as uncouth." Nox shrugged, her carefree attitude easily concealing the blatant hostility she felt towards the witch.

"Alright, what did you mean by that statement?" A man asked. He was gigantic and muscular, with long, raven-black hair and piercing silver-coloured eyes. The man was the King of all Lycans; Freki.

"It was well-intentioned advice, Lord Freki. We both know I would never disrespect His Excellency Altan." Nox shrugged again.

"And why would His Excellency need such advice?" A cool voice asked. It belonged to the Vampire Queen; Ailith. She was a gorgeous woman with jet-black locks and magnificent golden eyes.

"Why else would one need to keep subordinates in check; were it not for the subordinates not knowing their place, Lady Ailith?" Nox said, the meaning in her words clear.

Altan gazed at Nox, amused. He wondered who had set the young wolf off to this extent since Nox was generally apathetic.

"From your current statement, Alpha Nox, it would seem that one of the council has offended you." A man spoke, a smirk on his face. He had bright amber eyes and light brown hair. He was the King of Shifters; Variagen.

" I thought I made that completely obvious, Lord Variagen. Why else would I bother the council were it not for that?" Nox spoke, her audacity shocking all who were in the room, including her mate. Wasn't this the most powerful of their realm? Wasn't Nox being a little hasty?

Even Marcus was a tad nervous since he was not sure why Nox was provoking the council. He wasn't worried for his best friend; he knew her temperament. There was no way she did this without reason. What he was worried about was His Excellency Altan's reaction. If the man decided to end them, there would be no place to hide.

"Show some respect, pup. This is still the council, know your place!" A man said. He had long, golden hair and bright aquamarine eyes. He was the King of all werewolves; Ivailo. Nox scoffed at him, disregarding his threat.

"With all due respect, Lord Ivailo, you say to know my place; are you aware of yours?" She began, narrowing her eyes in disdain at the man.

"The only reason you are still the King of us Werewolves is because I have no interest in the throne. It would do you good to recall just who spared whom between us." She spoke, her words dripping with authority.

Altan laughed, thoroughly amused at Nox. What she had said was true, and he could not believe she revealed this information so easily, seeing as she had asked him to keep it a secret between the three of them. His other subordinates were also unaware of the matter.

" I thought you asked me to keep it secret, Scarlett. Why reveal it now?" He asked her, curious about her motivation.

"It's simple, Your Excellency. One of your subordinates has danced around brazenly in front of me. If they woke the sleeping dragon, they must pay the price." Nox shrugged while the others were still stumped by the previous round of information.

Nox was more powerful than the Werewolf King? She had spared the Werewolf King? The Werewolf King? Were they all dreaming?

"Scarlett, enough with the suspense, just who is it that has offended you?" He asked, his curiosity getting to him.

" Lady Freya, would you care to explain what your direct subordinates; The Vates coven, are doing in a war against me?" She spoke.

The room went silent and her little group had a realization. That's why her mood was so foul earlier! Wait... did she just say that the direct subordinates of the queen of witches were on the opposite side?

This fucking changes a shit ton! Not to mention the obvious fact that this makes the war so much more difficult; this was a direct breach of the council regulations and it wasn't pretty.

They could also feel the fury rising within them. This whole situation was dangerous and absurd. What in the moon goddess' name did they do to deserve such a twist?

" I haven't the slightest clue what you're referring to, Alpha Nox," Freya spoke, her eyes narrowed in anger.

It was Nox's turn to laugh, an eerie, sinister laugh that sent a shiver down one's spine.

" Good, good. Since you are unaware, I assume you will have no issues when I wipe that meddlesome coven off the face of the paranormal realm? After all, this is a blatant disregard of the council regulations, is it not?" She said, a small, innocent smirk on her face.

For all who have known Scarlett, it was better for her to curse at you than play innocent. If she did the former, you knew you had sinned and could prepare appropriately.

When she did the latter, you could only hope that when you do leave the realm, it will be merciful; a prayer made in vain.

Freya trembled in anger, refusing to believe that such a premature pup would threaten her like this.

"Well, Your Excellency, I think her silence speaks for itself, doesn't it?" Nox said, the innocent smirk still in place.

"You have my blessing, Alpha Nox, you'll save me quite the trouble there. Deal with them as you see fit." He paused, glancing at Freya's obvious discomfort.

"No one from the council will intervene, I will make sure of it. Also, congratulations to both you and Alpha Jackson for finding your mates." He said.

"Wait, Your Excellency! Will you just let a child do as she pleases?" Freya asked, glaring at Nox. Aylin moved closer to her mate as if protecting her from the fierce glare, causing Freya's gaze to zero in on her.

"My words are law. Will you disrespect my judgement, Freya?" Altan spoke, his voice deeper in warning and his ruby eyes glowing slightly.

Freya shook her head vigorously, still staring at Aylin before Nox's words made her tear her gaze away from the omega.

"Get your eyes away from my mate before I mail your subordinate's minced carcass as a present." She spoke, a low, dangerous growl rising from her throat, her eyes flashing between amber and violet.

Freya glowered at the wolf, not woman enough to admit her fear of the young Alpha, especially since her combat prowess was weaker than the Werewolf King's.

However, a smirk bloomed on her face. Dare that pretentious Alpha to finish off her subordinates. The minute they are gone, she will ensure that the Alpha will never live peacefully again. Especially since she was sure of what she was seeing now.

Altan's laughter cut through her pointless thoughts.

" Now, now, Scarlett, let's simmer down for a moment," Altan said, gazing at Nox to gauge her reaction.

Nox stopped growling, her eyes, now fully amber, gazing at Altan blankly.

" With all due respect, Your Excellency, pardon my transgression just now. However, I only have one more thing to say to Freya." Nier spoke, before relinquishing control to Nox.

Nox wanted to be the one to deal the finishing blow and she was not going to deny her human the opportunity, especially since she had to go and nuzzle up to Aruna.

Altan noticed she had not been referred to her by her honorific and realised that this little pup was serious. As young as she was, even Altan couldn't take her lightly, though he was stronger by a margin.

"Go ahead, Scarlett." He said, smiling manigamously.

Altan knew full well that the only reason Nox obeyed him was due to her respect for him. Thus, he never tried to short-change her and gave her the respect she gave him. Nox smiled sinisterly, glaring openly at Freya.

" Listen up, old crone, and listen well, as I will only say this once." Nox began, ignoring the gasps of surprise that rose involuntarily and filled the room.

"If a single hair on the head of my mate or anyone else I care about is harmed;" she paused, her voice dropping with a dangerous snarl.

" Your corpse shall lay by the feet of the new queen of witches; crowned by me."
