Chapter 6: Who Are You?
The sound of birds chirping filled the air, and the cool morning breeze signaled the arrival of a new day.
Watching over the children still fast asleep, Madam Fyto went out to look for food in the forest. She found a few edible mushrooms and began gathering them one by one.
Suddenly, the bushes ahead of her rustled. She saw someone peeking through them. Realizing they had been spotted, the figure quickly ran off into the thickets.
Madam Fyto didn't stand still. She tried to chase after them. With her fairly swift pace, she almost caught up. Her hand reached just enough to grab the person.
"Huh?"
She managed to catch them, and discovered it was a little girl. Not a human, but an elf. She looked frightened, but the growl from her stomach revealed she was starving.
Seeing this, Madam Fyto invited the little elf girl back to the cabin for breakfast. Her hunger overcame her fear, so she followed Madam Fyto willingly.
Back at the cabin, Raagnol and the other children were already awake. It was clear they had been waiting anxiously for Madam Fyto, who had taken a long time to return. They were surprised to see who she brought home, a young elf child.
"Alright, children. I found her in the forest earlier. She seemed hungry, so I invited her to have breakfast with us."
"Oh, by the way... little one, what's your name?" Madam Fyto asked gently.
"Ver... Vera...lia..." the girl answered shyly.
"Oh... So your name is Veralia. Alright, Veralia... Do you know where your parents are?"
Hearing that, Veralia only shook her head. From her gloomy expression, it was clear she truly didn't know where her parents were.
"You don't know...? How did you end up in this forest?" Madam Fyto asked again.
But Veralia remained silent, not answering the question at all.
Madam Fyto sighed, then asked the other children to play with her while she prepared breakfast.
Some of them tried to invite her to play, but Veralia refused. Seeing this, Raagnol approached her.
"Are you still scared?" Raagnol asked.
Still, she stayed silent, not replying.
"Looks like she's scared of you... Raagnol," Leyko teased.
Raagnol shot him a flat look. Leyko, realizing his joke had flopped, just chuckled awkwardly.
"Alright, everyone, breakfast is ready!" Madam Fyto called out.
All the children, including Veralia, sat down for breakfast. On the round wooden table was a bowl of freshly cooked mushroom soup. They ate with whatever simple utensils they had.
Veralia ate ravenously. It was obvious she hadn't eaten for days, her sunken cheeks said it all.
Suddenly, a knock was heard at the door. Madam Fyto quickly told all the children to stay quiet. She walked cautiously toward the door. But once she reached it, without hesitation, she opened it.
It was the soldier who had saved Raagnol yesterday. He collapsed at the doorstep and fainted. Raagnol quickly helped Madam Fyto carry him inside.
Leyko did his best to calm the other children, who were panicking at the sight of blood flowing from the soldier's body.
Upon checking, they found his entire body covered in slash wounds. It looked like he had lost a lot of blood.
Without delay, Madam Fyto started cleaning his wounds and tried to stop the bleeding.
"No... This is bad. He's lost too much blood. He'll die at this rate…"
Suddenly, the soldier began to glow. Veralia was touching him with both hands. The room fell silent. Only the gentle light from her hands lit up the pale face of the soldier. Everyone held their breath. One by one, his wounds began to close.
Raagnol couldn't believe what he was seeing.
And now, the wounds were completely healed. The soldier was fully recovered.
Madam Fyto looked at Veralia. Her face didn't show any surprise at all, as if she already knew about this.
…
"You're... not an ordinary Elf... are you?"
