The Shimura Actually Has Ice Release

Chapter 31: Chapter 31 – Ice Release

"You can already use Ice Release?!"

As the person closest to Takeshi on the field, Kakashi naturally sensed where this cold air was coming from.

Knowing that Takeshi possessed the Ice Release Kekkei Genkai, he immediately increased the speed and power of his punches.

Crack.

An ice wall suddenly appeared out of thin air, separating Takeshi and Kakashi.

Crap.

Kakashi, who no longer had time to retract his punch, could only channel chakra into his fist in an attempt to shatter the ice wall in front of him.

...

"You bastard." Kakashi glared at Takeshi with his signature dead-fish eyes, his right hand swollen like a balloon.

"You can't blame me for that. It just means your punch wasn't fast—or strong—enough." Takeshi whistled on the side, struggling not to laugh out loud.

Ice Release.

An Ice Release ninjutsu that only required one hand seal, capable of forming an ice wall to block attacks.

If this were the adult Kakashi, he likely could have used lightning chakra concentrated in his hand to break through it.

Unfortunately, Kakashi wasn't that powerful yet, so the swelling in his fist was something Takeshi fully expected.

"That ice wall—how did he do it?"

Yūhi Kurenai, surprised by the sudden and dramatic ending of the match, turned to Asuma with a question.

"Looks like Takeshi has the legendary Kekkei Genkai. This kid's been hiding pretty deep." Asuma felt a wave of pressure wash over him. Why did he have so many ridiculously talented and handsome guys around him?

Looks like he'd have to work harder himself.

"Kekkei Genkai, huh? So he's like me!" Obito chimed in, trying to reassert his presence.

"You… You don't even know if your Sharingan is ever going to awaken." Anko mercilessly shot him down.

"Hey! Anko, you're way out of line!" Obito swung his fists in protest.

In any case, this "battle" ended with Takeshi's victory.

Back home, Danzō was all smiles and even praised Takeshi a bit.

Seeing Danzō in a good mood, Takeshi finally let out a sigh of relief. At least he wouldn't be getting any extra training.

More importantly...

He was going to academy!

That meant he wouldn't have to endure those senseless beatings during the day anymore!

How joyous, how worthy of celebration!

"By the way, once you start academy, you won't have time for your usual training, so until then, you'll have to double your training load." Danzō, having just remembered, threw a bucket of cold water over Takeshi's celebration.

"Of course, that doesn't mean you'll stop the training. I know what they teach at the academy—just the basics like the Three Basic Jutsu and some theoretical knowledge. So from now on, your real training will happen at night."

Danzō continued to twist the knife.

Old man... I swear I'll kill you!

A real man born under heaven should never remain beneath others!

Takeshi was about to channel his inner Lü Bu and run Danzō through with a halberd—

"Yes, Father."

But in reality, he chickened out. Completely.

"By the way, that Ice Release technique—" Danzō, remembering the move from before, asked curiously.

"My mom left me a scroll..." Takeshi answered truthfully. The scroll recorded some Ice Release jutsu, but the only ones he remembered were the simpler ones with fewer hand seals. As for the rest, he didn't even bother to read them and just stashed the scroll away.

"I see. Ice Release jutsu, huh? Even in Kirigakure, that's extremely rare intel..." Hearing that such a scroll existed, Danzō narrowed his eyes.

"Do you remember where the scroll is hidden?"

"It's near the village where I used to live, but I don't remember the exact spot. I didn't leave any markers, either. Still, if I go there myself, I should be able to find it..." Takeshi hesitated and chose not to reveal the full truth.

In his heart, he still held concern for a member of his clan.

Now that he was in this world, he really wanted to save that person.

He could use this scroll as an excuse to ask Danzō for permission to visit Kirigakure and look for someone who, by his guess, hadn't even been born yet.

"I see..." Danzō was clearly disappointed. After all, Konohagakure didn't have any recorded Ice Release techniques. If they could recover that scroll, it would be a huge boost to Takeshi's strength.

Looks like he'd have to find a way to acquire Ice Release jutsu from Kirigakure's official channels.

...

After who knows how many beatings, the day of Takeshi's enrollment finally arrived.

Speaking of academy, you had to mention one of the iconic traditions in Naruto: the Hokage himself giving a speech to pass on the Will of Fire.

"Where the leaves dance, the fire burns eternal."

Watching his classmates' reactions, Takeshi let out a sigh.

It was obvious that the children of major clans didn't care much for the Third Hokage's philosophy, whereas the civilian-born kids seemed deeply inspired.

If Obito were here, he'd probably be super fired up.

Seeing that Rin was sitting next to Might Guy and Ebisu, Takeshi figured that Obito was probably off somewhere helping an old lady cross the street again.

Come to think of it, Might Guy still got into the academy as a substitute—good, these key story events hadn't changed. As someone who reincarnated without a system, information was his only real advantage.

"The light of the fire will illuminate the entire village and allow the new green leaves to sprout. To an old man like me, you are those green leaves. We will always watch over you, until the day you take my place."

As Hiruzen Sarutobi finished his speech, the teacher beside him was the first to start clapping, soon followed by the students, now swept up in emotion.

Blending into the crowd, Takeshi clapped halfheartedly—just enough to pass.

"Thanks to the Third Hokage for his speech. That concludes today's entrance ceremony. Please remember your class times, and don't be late tomorrow." The teacher respectfully watched the Hokage leave before turning to the students with a dismissal.

"Oh, right—everyone, don't forget to take your student files home." On the way out, the teacher pointed to a stack of folders on a table.

"You carry Obito's for him, will you?" Picking up his own file, Takeshi spoke to Kakashi.

"Why me?" Kakashi looked thoroughly annoyed. "If you keep indulging that guy who's always late, he'll just get worse."

"Besides, aren't you closer to him? You should carry it."

Hearing Kakashi say he was close to Obito, Takeshi quickly denied it.

"Don't say nonsense. Obviously you're his best buddy."

"Hah? Every time that guy's late, you're the one making excuses for him. He only turned out this way because of you."

Kakashi didn't even know what "buddy" was supposed to mean, but judging by Takeshi's behavior, it clearly wasn't a compliment.
