Chapter 11 - Hope...

Hope

The Dangai or Precipice World is the realm that exists as the connection and bridge between Soul Society and the World of the Living. It is the main transportation for the Shinigami to perform their duties in the next world; performing Konso to help Pluses to move on to Soul Society and cleanse the Hollows of their sins they committed during their time as a Hollow.

However like everything else in life, there are the negative effects. One of them is the Cleaner.

"Crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap!" Naruto exclaimed as he and the others frantically run for their lives. He glanced out of the corner of his eye and saw a huge organic train-like vehicle with a lone yellow light chasing after them.

"WHAT THE HELL, YORUICHI?! If this is the official gate, then why do we have to run for our lives just like the last time?!" Ichigo asked frantically as the cat runs in front of him.

"Last time?! When?" asked Naruto.

"Before we arrived to Soul Society, but it was through an unofficial gate. We barely made it that time." Uryuu replied.

As Naruto was about to speak, Yoruichi beat him to it. "We needed a Hell Butterfly to pass through safely. Only Shinigami can handle them. Come on, we're almost there!" Something about that clicked in Naruto's mind and so did Kurama's.

"Wait… you're a Shinigami, aren't you? Couldn't you handle the Hell Butterfly?"

Yoruichi had a small sweat-drop on her/his head when everyone looked at the cat incredulously. "Uhh-Look, the exit!"

Saved by the bell.

When they finally made it safely, Naruto and the others were expecting to be in a building or a rooftop. But Fate had something else in mind. "Uh, are we in the sky?" asked the Jinchuriki before he looked down with the others to find the ground far below them before they looked at each other. "Craaaaaappppppp!" Naruto trailed off as he was pulled down by the gravity with Ichigo, Orihime, Uryu and even Chad screaming their lungs out.

Suddenly the feeling of falling stopped, causing Orihime to open her eyes and found her-self and her friends on a long white sheet that is floating through the air. Yes… floating through the air like a magic carpet. She then noticed the person in the front and smiled.

"Mr. Urahara!" Orihime beamed with happiness.

"Eh?" Naruto muttered before he sat upright along with Ichigo, Uryuu and Chad just when the man turned around to face them.

Urahara is a lean-built man with light skin and light blonde messy hair, although they nearly look pale, with two strands framing the sides of his face and one strand between his eyes, plus he has a chin stubble. He dons a dark coat with a white diamond pattern along its bottom, a dark green shirt and pants underneath and lastly traditional wooden sandals and a striped dark green and white bucket hat that shadows his eyes.

"Well, well, well. Welcome back everyone," Urahara greeted pleasantly.

"Urahara." Was all Ichigo could say at the moment.

"So that's Kisuke Urahara. I thought he'd be… nerdy and weird," thought Naruto as he observed the current Guardian before he took a glance over his shoulder at the three people behind him. "That large man there is Tessai Tsukabishi, the former Captain of the Kido Corps and childhood friend of Urahara and Yoruichi."

Tessai is a tall, muscular, lightly tanned-skinned man with cornrowed hair and a large black handlebar mustache that is somehow connected to his sideburns. He wears rectangular-shaped glasses, a white muscle shirt with regular pants and a blue apron.

"As I recall, he was exiled along with Kisuke after being framed by Aizen."

Naruto slightly nodded before his gaze shifted to the younger persons or the correct term; kids. One of them is a small boy with red hair and wearing a white shirt that had the logo for "Urahara Shop" on the front and blue trousers with the bottoms turned up. The other is a young-looking girl with a perpetual blush on her cheeks, round purple eyes, black and long, black hair with purple tint that is parted in the middle with two strands of her bangs in the middle of her face while the rest of her hair is in pigtails with pink ties. She wears a white shirt with the "Urahara Shop" like the boy's shirt, but printed in pink and a knee-length pink skirt with white dots.

"Jinta and Ururu. Those two are pretty brave to be involved with something like this." Naruto thought to him-self before he heard his name being called. "Hm, who called me?"

"Well, I did," Urahara said cheerily, "So you're the one who helped Ichigo here to save Rukia. Yoruichi told me about you."

"Then you know I need to speak to you about… the Key."

Straight to the point, isn't he?

Just like that, the man's cheery expression turned to one of dead seriousness. "Of course, but first let's drop off Ichigo and the others at their homes. We'll discuss afterwards."

Naruto nodded in agreement before he noticed Orihime, Chad and Uryuu looking at him confused. "I'll explain in due time, but for now you should get home and rest." The trio reluctantly agreed and kept quiet for the entire ride.

Jinta turned to Tessai and whispered to him, "Who is the blondie? Does the boss know him?"

"… You could say he's been waiting for him. But never mind his identity, do you feel his Spirit Energy?" Tessai whispered back as Jinta gave a nod for his answer, "Then you know it's stronger and more intense than Ichigo's own Spirit Energy. He's easily a Captain-level."

"Just when I thought Ichigo is the strongest of us. What do you think, Ururu?" Jinta asked his slightly taller female campanion. No answer came from her, which worried the boy. He scooted closer and noticed Ururu's eyes were glazed and void of emotion. "Oh no." He quickly nudged Tessai, which caught his attention and gestured his head to the girl and mouthed, "It's happening."

Tessai tensed before he nodded and readied him-self for what's about to happen in 3… 2… 1. As quick as lightning, his arms wrapped around the sudden lurching Ururu who, for some reason, was trying to attack the blonde teenager that arrived with Ichigo and the others.

"Could his Spirit Energy cause her to act this way? It is stronger and more intense than everyone here." Tessai thought as he kept his bear hug grip on the thrashing girl, which surprisingly didn't catch anyone's attention… except Urahara who gave a small nod.

Naruto caught the gesture and looked over his shoulder to find a sleeping Ururu in Tessai' arms and Jinta casually whistling some jaunty tune. "Eh, it was probably nothing." He shrugged and faced forward just in time to see Ichigo deliver an elbow at the bucket-hat wearing Shinigami for using Rukia as a scapegoat.

After dropping the teens at their homes, except Ichigo who chose to be dropped off somewhere, Naruto observed the new city called Karakura Town and noticed that many of its population has Spirit Energy but in very small amounts compared to Ichigo and the others. Before he could think of anything else, the rug landed in a clearing in front of an average shop that has the "Urahara Shop" on top of it.

"This is where you will be living until Aizen is stopped," said Yoruichi as she walked towards and entered the shop along with Urahara and his employees.

As he's about to step inside of the shop that would be his home for the next two months, Naruto couldn't help but feel a bit home-sick. He misses Konoha; its vast lands of surrounding healthy and tall trees, the Hokage Monument, Teuchi's Ramen stand.

"I hope everyone are all right," muttered the Jinchuriki as he closed the door behind him.

(Shinobi World Universe)

-(Meanwhile)-Konohagakure-

The most powerful and peaceful village was something to beholden. Its landscape is blanket by an ocean of healthy trees and the great rays of the Sun hovered over them, filling the habitants with joy and happiness. But no more.

The trees are anything but lifeless and gray. The Sun is blocked by eternal darkness and the said darkness brings with it despair and suffering.

Ten months. Ten months since the Allied Shinobi Forces met their end by the might of the Shinju. Ten months of chaos and suffering. The Five Great Shinobi Nations suffered greatly of their losses but it is not compared when the citizens of each Hidden Village went through. They lost sons, uncles, fathers, grandfathers, grandsons, daughters, mothers, aunts, etc. But that is not the worst of it.

Hope was lost.

The civilians and Shinobi lost the will to fight when Kumogakure and Kirigakure along with their respective countries were overwhelmed and taken by the Shinju's forces. The current reserves of Shinobi from both villages fought them to allow the populations to escape. There were 5,000 Kumogakure and Mizugakure Shinobi in both reserves… only 700 in total managed to come back alive.

The refugees journeyed to the neighboring villages but it soon led to overcrowding and problems. The reserves of Shinobi of each village do their best to resolve the problems, but eventually they lost the will to fight, even the Five Kage themselves.

Only a few Shinobi still have hope, but one of them believes not all is lost. And that one person is pissed right now.

"Let me in!"

"The Hokage asked to be alone in her office. That is her orders," said a Dog-masked Anbu standing guard outside of the Hokage's office alongside another Anbu wearing a Bird mask.

"Yeah right, you know just as well as I do that she just wants to drink booze and be drunk all day and night. That is not how the Hokage is supposed to be acting. She's supposed to be leading us. Especially in this dire time."

The Anbu sighed but still stood firmly. "Careful, Honorable Grand-"

"My name is Konohamaru." He snarled at the Anbu who flinched a little. The grandson of Hiruzen Sarutobi has short spiky brown hair and black eyes and had grown in size as well. He dons a red short-sleeved shirt, gray pants, a long scarf around his neck and his Konoha headband.

"Nevertheless, Lady Tsunade will not be disturbed. Even if you are the Third Hokage's grandson, we will remove you from the premises."

Konohamaru narrowed his eyes as the two Anbu took subtle fighting stances. "This is how you will be for the rest of your life, Lady Tsunade?!" No answer came from the door and that gave fuel to the fire inside the young Shinobi. "Fine! Drown yourself in booze for all I care, but I want you to remember you're disrespecting the Will of Fire, the previous Hokages… and Naruto." Konohamaru's head lowered a little as he remembered of his brother-like mentor. "He never would've given up. He'd keep fighting until his last breath."

After saying what he needed to say, Konohamaru walked a few feet until he heard a creak from behind him. He looked over his shoulder to see the door opened to reveal Tsunade; the Fifth Hokage.

She is a woman of great beauty with brown eyes and straight blonde hair that are waist-length and with two shoulder-length bangs framing sides of her face and a rhombus mark on her forehead. But her greatest characteristics are her rather large bust. Her attire consists of a grey kimono-style blouse with no sleeves that is held closed by a broad, dark bluish-grey obi with matching pants. The blouse is closed quite low enough to reveal his sizable cleavage.

"L-lady Tsunade!"

The Kuniochi looked pale instead of light-skinned due to her excessive drinking. She looked at Konohamaru with half-lid eyes and pointed at him, "You… come… inside," Tsunade slurred before she disappeared into her office.

The young Sarutobi member gulped nervously since he didn't expect the drunk to answer before he walked past the Anbu and entered the room. As soon he entered, his sense of smell was overwhelmed by the strong odor of alcohol and sake, forcing Konohamaru to cover his nose. He turned on the light and was shocked by the number of bottles scattered all over the floor; some of them are even broken.

"How in the hell does she walk through this? Not only that, this is disrespectful," thought Konohamaru after he carefully crossed over the desk where Tsunade was downing another bottle of sake. "How can you do this? This was your grandfather's and my grandfather's office during their reign. Have you no shame?"

"I can do… what… ever… I want."

Konohamaru shook his head in disapproval, "If Naruto was here, he-" A loud slam shut the boy mid-sentence as he watched in fear at the splintered and broken desk that was the unfortunate victim of an angry Tsunade.

"… You didn't see what happened that day."

"What?"

Tsunade bit her lip as she tries to fight back the tears coming out of her eyes. "You don't know what happened that day. You didn't see-"

"Then tell me," said Konohamaru resolutely. The blonde Kuniochi was surprised by the boy's determination and couldn't help but feel nostalgic for he reminded her of the knuckle-headed Jinchuriki who died at the hands of the Shinju.

After pondering and Konoharamu's unwavering attention, she relented, "… That day… after Katsuyu healed myself and the other Kages, we made our way to the battleground where Naruto and the rest of Shinobi Forces were battling the Uchihas by Gaara's sand. We were only halfway there when we sensed Madara and the Masked Man's Chakra disappeared. At first we thought they were defeated but we were wrong. Not long after that, the entire Allied Forces' Chakra were gone as well and we feared the worst. Gaara did his best to get us there… and by the time we were almost there… Killer Bee and the Eight Tails' Chakra disappeared too."

"Wasn't he the Raikage's brother?"

"Yes… A was deeply devastated when he felt his brother's existence disappear, but that made us more determined to get to Naruto who was still alive. When we barely arrived, Naruto was already…" Tsunade choked back a sob and before she knew it, tears were streaming from her eyes.

Konohamaru looked at her solemnly as he pondered about Gaara who must be feeling the same pain like Tsunade, maybe even worse. He remembered Naruto telling him, before the latter left for his training before the war, that he fought Gaara and changed his way of philosophy and showed him that fighting to protect others is the true source of strength. Since that fight, Naruto became Gaara's first true friend and the loss of his first friend is great.

"You can't give up. We have to start fighting back. Before I came here, I had my Shadow Clones scout the Land of Lightning and the Land of Water countries for survivors who had been left behind during the voyage. When they dispersed, my clones found that the Shinju's forces are kidnapping civilians and Shinobi alike, including their families." Konohamaru said as Tsunade stopped crying and listened to him, "We must start fighting back."

"What is the point? We have nothing… I have nothing."

"Yes you do," Tsunade's eyes widen as she looked at the boy, "We have the Will of Fire in us. Its what makes us stronger and keep fighting against all odds and there is another power that is stronger than Fear."

"And what would that be?"

"Hope… we all have hope. It is we fight with when all else is lost."

"Well said, young one."

Both Konohamaru and Tsunade took fighting stances, although the latter looked sluggish at best from the drinking. They both looked around frantically for the origin of the voice to no avail. Before they knew it, they were in a room with a strange markings on the bottom of the floor with two lampposts standing opposite from each other.

"W-Where are we?" asked Konohamaru confused.

"I was about to ask you that myself," said a voice behind him.

Konohamaru turned around to find four familiar people and judging by their attire, they're from the neighboring villages. "Lord Raikage, Tsuchikage, Kazekage, and Lady Mizukage."

The Raikage is a tall, dark-skinned man with a large muscular build and his white hair combed back, a mustache and beard and pronounced cheekbones. He has black Fuma Shuriken tattoos on both shoulders and his attire is a gold belt around his waist with a boar's face engraved in the centre and his village's Shinobi sandals.

This is A; the Fourth Raikage and brother to the late Jinchuriki, Killer Bee.

The Tsuchikage is a very short, old man with a triangular beard and a moustache that has angular corners, a big red nose and thick eyebrows. The top of his head is completely bald, but has white hair on the lower-half of his head that is styled in a traditional chonmage. He is wearing a green and yellow coat with a red collar over his village's traditional outfit.

This is Onoki the Fence Sitter and the Third Tscuhikage.

The Kazekage has fair skin and short, spiky, auburn hair, pale blue-green eyes and no distinctive pupils or eyebrows. His most notable physical traits are his tanuki-like black eye rings like Naruto's whisker-like birthmarks and the carved kanji for "love" on the left side of his forehead. His attire consists of full-length dark trousers, with a pair of laces on each leg, a long-sleeved crimson coat with flaring hemlines and slits down on the lower half of the front and back, a grey holster vest held in place by a single strap over his left shoulder and his gourd that carries his sand is held by two buckled belts.

This is Gaara of the Sand; the Fifth Kazekage, former Jinchuriki of Shukaku the One Tail and friend of Naruto Uzumaki.

The Mizukage is a tall slender woman with green eyes and ankle-length, auburn hair styled into a herringbone pattern at the back, a top-knot tied with a dark blue band, and with four bangs at the front. Two of the bangs are short, with one covering her right eye, and two are long, crossing each other on her large bust. She wears a long-sleeved, dark blue dress that shows her impressive cleavage and falls just below the knees and is kept closed at the front with a zip, and is kept open on the front-right side from the waist down. The dress covers up her arms and the underside of her breasts and high-heeled sandals.

This is Mei Terumi, the Fifth Mizukage.

"Damn, they look like they've seen better days than this," thought Konohamaru as he observed closely to each of the Kage's health. Mei looked to be hungry for something and it's something… sexual given the look in her eyes. For Onoki, he seems to be more of a grouch than he was before the formation of the Alliance and as for Gaara and A, they both have signs of severe depression in their eyes.

"I'll ask again; who brought us here?" asked A firm but depressed at the same time.

"I did… Raikage."

A bright light appeared in the middle of the marked circle and blinded the Shinobi and Kunoichi present. After it disappeared, Konohamaru opened his eyes and was surprised to the one person who was considered a myth by all but the Senju and Uchiha Clans. But also as the most powerful Shinobi of all time. "T-The Sage of the Six Paths?!"

The Rinnegan-bearing Shinobi smiled at the boy while the Five Kage opened their eyes to confirm what the boy said and they were more surprised and in awe, especially Tsunade.

"T-This must be a trick," said A in disbelief as his eyes quivered at the haori-clad robe man standing in front of him.

Hagoromo chuckled at their shocked expressions. "Those looks on your faces. Those are the same looks when they came here." Konohamaru's ears perked up when he caught that word and so did Onoki.

" 'They?' " asked the floating Kage with a raised brow.

"Here's a hint; who is loud, brash and needs oversimplified analogies to get to his head?"

Without a beat, Konohamaru answered with no hesitation, "Naruto?! Naruto was here?! He's alive?!" The elderly Sage nodded, bringing tears to the young Sarutobi's eyes. "How?"

In the next few minutes, the Five Kage and Konohamaru listened to Hagoromo of his intervention that saved Naruto and Kurama, the training that gave the Jinchuriki new strength and his mission to find the Sealing Keys in separate worlds. While the Sage was explaining, Tsunade couldn't believe she is standing in front of her direct ancestor. The man who defeated the Ten Tails singlehandedly and was titled as the "God of Shinobi" before her grandfather and former sensei, Hashirama Senju and Hiruzen Sarutobi, respectively.

As for Gaara, life came back to him when he heard Naruto is alive and he felt happiness inside of him… happiness for a long time since the end of the Fourth Shinobi World.

"H-Honorable Ancestor," said Tsunade hesitantly while mentally cursing her-self for her current state. "H-How long ago did Naruto set out for the Keys?"

"Please… call me Hagoromo… Tsunade." The man smiled at his living descendant, causing her to bring out a small smile. "Naruto left for the Keys about two years ago, I believe." Hagoromo answered while he noticed the Raikage's right fist tightening and the expression on the latter's face spelled one emotion… anger.

"Two years ago?" asked a confused Konohamaru as were Gaara, Mei, Onoki, and Tsuande as well. "That can't be right. It's only been 10 months."

"It's true that it's been ten months in the living world, but time runs faster here in the Afterlife. Excuse me, Konohamaru," The Sage said as he kept his gaze on the Raikage who looked ready to explode while Konohamaru was surprised that the man knew his name. "Is there something the matter, A?"

"Why? Why did you save that amateur Jinchuriki? Why didn't you save my brother?!" A screamed out as tears streamed from his eyes, "He was more experienced at controlling the Eight-Tails than that boy did with the Nine-Tails! Why didn't you save him?!"

After A finished releasing his anger, Hagoromo stood there passively while Tsunade, Gaara and Konohamaru glared at the dark-skinned man for wishing Naruto dead and his brother alive.

"… I couldn't."

"WHY?!"

Tsunade was about ready to sock one into the Raikage's personal jewels for speaking to her ancestor like that. However before she could even prep herself, Hagoromo slammed the butt of his ringed staff on the floor, causing cracks below on it. "Be careful with your tone… boy," the Sage said dangerously, so dangerously close to anger.

The anger inside of him was replaced with fear as A looked directly at the Rinnegan eyes staring at him. Power filled those eyes and it was a power that rivaled the Ten Tails' power.

"*gulp* I-I'm sorry for my rudeness… Lord Hagoromo. It's just-"

"If you let me explain, it's not because I didn't want to…" Hagoromo said with sincerity instead of anger, "it's because I wasn't allowed. When I was watching the battle between your Shinobi Forces and the Shinju, I made a plea to Kami to allow me to rescue both Naruto and Killer Bee… but I was denied and too late. I'm truly sorry about your brother, A."

The elder Raikage sadly nodded before Hagoromo faced the other Kages and a serious expression replaced his sincerity, "Now there is something I must tell you all." The Kage and the Genin waited as the suspense is filling them with curiosity, "You must prepare to fight the Shinju and his forces. He is building what I dreaded for so long and it is halfway completed."

"What is he building, Lord Hagoromo?" asked Mei as she fixed a bang of hair.

Hagoromo sighed as he closed his eyes and tried to find the best way to tell them, but found none. "The Shinju is building a Blood Portal."

"Blood portal?" was on the minds of the Shinobi and Kuniochi present.

"What is a Blood Portal?" asked Onoki with a brow. Whatever it is, it doesn't sound good especially if the God of Shinobi dreads it so much.

"Something not good, I assume," replied Konohamaru.

"… A Blood Portal is a means to allow someone of immense power or a massive amount of people to cross dimensions, specifically to the Major Worlds. It's quite different than the method Naruto uses to cross dimensions since he's only one person." Shocked expressions took over the Shinobi men and women as the Sage continues explaining, "However there is a terrible price to pay for such method."

"What is it?" asked Tsunade.

"… He needs sacrifices of 50,000 people." Everyone's eyes widen, horrified at the extremes the Shinju is going to complete his goals. "He needs their blood to maintain the portal and if he succeeds in completing the portal, he will sends his massive army to put the Major Worlds and their inhabitants under his rule."

"Wait… What about Naruto?"

"The Shinju already sent two of his men after him, although it wasn't until the first one died that he knows of Naruto's survival. He will keep sending his men after him and the Keys. That is why you must resume fighting; not only for yourselves nor your countries or home world. Fight for the neighboring Worlds just as Naruto is fighting for our World!"

The shocked expressions of the Shinobi are replaced with fierce determination and hope, causing the Sage to smile at them as he knew that their vessels are filled with the most powerful weapon that is stronger than Fear and Despair… Hope.

Tsunade watched her ancestor snapped his fingers and said good-bye to her and everyone. She was about to say something when she suddenly found her-self back into her office along with Konohamaru. Both of them nodded and proceeded to the door. As they walked, Konohamaru took a glance at the busty blonde woman and noticed she no longer looked pale or sluggish but regained the beauty she is renowned for in the world.

The Anbu outside the door were startled when the door opened and was surprised to see their Hokage full of life. "Assemble our troops and send message hawks to Tsuchigakure and Sunagakure. Also send forth the Raikage and Mizukage to the war council chambers in one hour."

"War council chambers? Lady Tsunade… Are you saying…"

Tsunade nodded firmly but stopped the Anbu from leaving for a moment. "Also alert all Shinobi to the changes we're making."

"What changes?" asked the Dog Anbu.

"… We're no longer the Allied Shinobi Forces. We are now the Allied Shinobi Resistance." Tsunade said proudly.

Naruto Uzumaki

Age: 17

Shinobi of Konoha and born as the son of Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki and became the third Jinchuriki of Kurama. The Disciple and descendant of the Sage of the Six Paths and the last known male member of the Uzumaki Clan.

Weapons: Tenkaichi: personally forged by Naruto before he began his journey. It is forged from the last of a meteorite with special properties and chakra metal to make it stronger. It is identical to Ichigo Kurosaki's Bankai, Tensa Zangetsu, by color, length, and tsuba shape. The only differences are the name and the red replica of the Uzumaki Clan crest that dangles from the chain.
