Chapter 18: Eyes in the Shadows
The air in the Storm Kingdom was calm, but its silence was deceptive—beneath that calm, a web of espionage had begun to unravel.
In the following days after the grand war room meeting, Testarossa and Souei, with the full might of the shadow army behind them, moved out into the world. Their mission: discover the true intentions of every nation, uncover hidden schemes, identify potential allies, and snuff out threats—before they even formed.
Unknown to them, above the skies, invisible and utterly undetectable, Saiki Kusuo floated lazily in the clouds, sipping on a new flavor of coffee jelly he just created. With a single flick of his fingers, he erased their presence entirely from every possible detection method—magic, spiritual sense, divine perception, everything.
Saiki (thinking): "They're doing the legwork, might as well make it smooth. If someone spots them, it'll be too annoying to deal with."
First stop—Rudra's Empire, a vast and militarized nation known for its discipline and ambition. It was here, in a heavily guarded war council chamber, that the spies struck gold.
Rudra sat at the head of a long table, maps of the Jura Forest laid out in front of him. Velgrynd, standing beside him with crossed arms, radiated disapproval.
Rudra: "The Jura Forest is a strategic zone. Rich in resources. Perfect for expansion. I've waited long enough."
Velgrynd: "And you forget who declared ownership over it?"
Her voice was sharp.
Velgrynd: "Veldora. The Storm Dragon. The same Veldora who humiliated Guy Crimson."
Rudra: "He was weakened, humanized. I could take him."
Velgrynd: "And get yourself erased? Tch. Try it. I won't help you crawl back this time."
Above the chandelier, cloaked and invisible, Testarossa smirked.
Testarossa (telepathically to Souei): "Overconfidence and pride. This one might become a problem."
Souei: "He underestimates Veldora. That's dangerous."
Testarossa: "Let's move before we melt from the arrogance in here."
Next stop—Falmuth, a den of greed and political backstabbing.
Testarossa wore the guise of a foreign noble, dazzling a ballroom of schemers with a red dress that shimmered like fire. Souei lurked in the shadows behind the curtains, listening.
Falmuth Noble: "The monsters are organized now, led by that… dragon-thing. Still, monsters are monsters. If we can get in early…"
Falmuth King: "That forest should've been ours years ago. We will reclaim it."
Testarossa swirled her wine with a smirk, eyes cold.
Testarossa (thinking): "So many worms. And yet they think they're lions."
Souei: "No diplomacy here. Greed runs deeper than logic."
Lubelius was the land of light, or so it claimed.
Here, Louis Valentin stood at a grand altar, preaching divine order. But behind the scenes, the true ruler, Luminous Valentine, watched from her darkened throne.
Luminous: "So, the Storm Dragon has evolved. How amusing. And he's declaring dominion now?"
Louis: "We should proceed carefully."
Luminous: "We will observe. Jura Forest will either flourish or become a crater."
Testarossa, floating through the stained-glass rafters unseen, noted the eerily calm confidence in Luminous's voice.
Testarossa: "She's not impressed. But she's intrigued."
At the Rosso estate, Granbell Rosso sipped brandy while whispering into the ears of politicians and nobles. He held power without a title.
Granbell: "That forest will shake the world. But if one watches the ripples... one knows when to dive."
Souei: "A manipulator. Not overtly hostile, but certainly watching."
An oasis of elegance and wisdom, Sarion was peaceful. The elves welcomed scholars, mages, and diplomats, but rarely warriors.
Testarossa, now disguised as a diplomat from the a near by Linhdom, sat in a roundtable discussion of magic.
Elf Scholar: "A city in the forest? A kingdom ruled by Veldora who bested Guy Crimson?"
Testarossa (calmly): "A new chapter in the world."
Elmesia (thinking): "If this Veldora rules with wisdom, perhaps we may learn something..."
King Gazel was in the middle of a weapons demonstration.
Gazel: "Strength and unity—if Jura has both, we will honor it. If not, we must protect ourselves."
Souei: "He's a warrior king. Respectful, strategic. A potential ally."
Demon Lord Carrion was seen sparring with his generals, shouting and laughing.
Carrion: "If Veldora's kingdom is strong, I want to fight them. If not, I'll help them get there. Let's see what they're made of!"
Testarossa (chuckling): "He's got a fighter's heart. I like him."
Leon sat alone in a silent, opulent throne room.
Leon: "Veldora bested Guy and now he takes the throne of monsters. I must know more. For research, of course…"
Souei: "He's not hostile. But he's curious. Very."
Frey, in her palace, sighed as she looked at the horizon.
Frey: "As long as it doesn't mess with my kingdom, I don't care."
Testarossa: "Neutral. Lazy."
Clayman danced in a twisted ballroom, whispering to himself and shadow puppets.
Clayman: "My orc lord will rise… I will rule! Jura will be my stage but i should proceed with caution!"
Souei: "He wants to create a demon lord. He is someone we should keep an eye on."
Testarossa: "Delusional and dangerous. Definitely red-listed."
Yuuki, cheerful and charismatic, held secret meetings in his office.
Yuuki: "Everyone's focused on that forest. Let's make sure we're behind the scenes when the pieces fall."
Testarossa: "He's the snake behind the curtain."
Back in the Storm Kingdom, the moonlight gleamed on the marble floors as Testarossa and Souei entered the throne room. Veldora, regal and composed, sat like a king in his black-gold armor. Saiki was floating upside down above the ceiling, sipping another jelly cup.
Veldora: "Welcome back. Speak."
Testarossa: "The world is watching us. Some fear us. Some plan to use us. Some... want war."
A magical illusion map appeared above the table. Each country was marked in green, yellow, or red depending on their disposition.
Souei: "Eastern Empire and Falmuth are red. Clayman is a wild card. Yuuki... is complicated."
Veldora: "And allies?"
Testarossa: "Gazel, Carrion, and Sarion.
Potential strong allies. El Dorado is neutral. Luminous is... unpredictable."
Veldora: "Then we move carefully. With strength. With patience."
He rose, the shadows of the room responding to him.
Veldora: "Let the world know... the Storm Kingdom watches back."
Saiki, still hovering, cracked a small smirk.
Saiki (thinking): "Yare yare... the show is just beginning."
And with that, the Storm Kingdom stood ready. Every eye, every ear, every whisper—it all fed into the growing power that was soon to shake the world.
