The Silent Deity: Saiki Kusuo in Tensura

Chapter 33: The Predator’s Shadow

Inside a private room beneath the Free Guild headquarters, the air was thick. Tension hung like fog, wrapping around the five figures seated around the circular table. Their usual smugness was gone—replaced by heavy silence and worried glances.

Yuuki Kagurazaka leaned back in his chair, arms folded tightly, tapping his fingers against his bicep. His Anti-Skill, the strongest counter-ability in the world, should've made him feel untouchable.

But this time, it wasn't enough.

Not against Veldora.

Not anymore.

Across from him, Kigali was pacing, biting the edge of her thumb. Laplace sat with a crooked grin, but his eyes darted around nervously. Tear clutched a cup of tea in both hands, though it had long gone cold. And Footman—the usually loud and laughing brute—sat hunched forward, silent.

Something had changed. They all knew it.

Kigali (breaking the silence):

"I'm telling you all, Clayman's gone. Dead. Wiped off the face of the world."

Tear (her voice trembling):

"I-I tried to reach him with our link spell. I tried three times. There's nothing. Not even static."

Laplace (clicking his tongue):

"Like he was erased…"

Yuuki (low voice):

"Or worse."

Everyone went quiet.

Footman (growling slightly):

"He was dumb… I told him to stop poking Veldora. That wasn't a dragon you mess with. That's a walking apocalypse with a smile."

Yuuki (sternly):

"He didn't just poke him. He dragged the Church and a 20,000-strong army to Veldora's gates. And then tried to pin everything on the Storm Kingdom."

Kigali (slamming her fist on the wall):

"And what do we do now?! We're next! You think Veldora doesn't know it was all our plan?! You think he's gonna stop with Clayman?!"

Laplace (trying to joke):

"Heh… I mean, maybe he'll be nice about it? Send us a warning letter first?"

Tear (horrified):

"Laplace!!"

Yuuki:

"Enough."

His voice cut through the room like a knife.

Yuuki (calm, but deadly serious):

"We run."

Everyone froze.

Kigali:

"…Run? Just like that?"

Yuuki:

"Yes. Just like that."

Footman (grumbling):

"Where?"

Yuuki (thinking aloud):

"The Eastern Wastes. Beyond the Badlands. No ley lines. No magic tracking. It'll take even Veldora time to sniff us out there."

Kigali (sitting down finally):

"This is bad. Really bad. Even you, with your Anti-Skill, can't stop Veldora if he finds us."

Yuuki (gritting his teeth):

"I know. He's not the same dragon from years ago. He's something else now."

Tear:

"What even is the Storm Kingdom? How did they win so easily? Who's helping them?"

Laplace (shrugging):

"Doesn't matter anymore. We lost the game. This ain't chess anymore—it's survival."

The silence returned, heavier than before. Each of them was deep in thought.

Yuuki:

"We cut all ties. No contacts. No magic use unless it's hidden. We move before nightfall. We burn everything here."

Footman:

"And what if he still finds us?"

Kigali:

"…Then we hope we can beg."

Laplace:

"I hate begging."

Tear:

"I'd rather beg than get erased like Clayman."

Yuuki looked at them all, one by one.

Yuuki:

"There's something about Veldora now. Something darker… colder. He beat Guy Crimson. He humiliated Luminous. And no one's saying it, but… he's not just a dragon anymore. He's something else."

Laplace (muttering):

"A god in dragon's skin…"

Outside the building, in the shadows of the city alleyway, a cold wind stirred the leaves. But it wasn't wind.

It was a pulse.

A whisper of energy.

Unseen eyes were watching.

Far, far away, back in the Storm Kingdom, Testarossa, Ultima, Diablo, and Carrera were gathered, seated like statues of destruction before their lord.

Veldora (smirking):

"Let the hunt begin. Make them wish they had never been born."

And just like that, with a single blink of time—the Transcendent Demons vanished.

Back in the Free Guild, Yuuki paused.

He stood slowly, eyes widening. A drop of sweat slid down his cheek.

Yuuki:

"...Did any of you just feel that?"

Tear:

"F-Feel what?"

Yuuki (looking around):

"Like death just brushed past us."

Kigali:

"We're out of time."

Yuuki (grabbing his cloak):

"Run."

But before.....

They burned their belongings—gilded chests, silken gowns, precious relics—and scattered bodies into the flames to fake their own demise. Flames roared, consuming their past lives.

On a distant dune, Saiki watched the spectacle while savoring his coffee jelly.

Saiki (tilting his spoon): Yare yare... "Let the Demons do their work, they can handle it."

He lounged, completely confident the demons could handle what came next. Behind him, Yuuki whispered urgently.

Yuuki: "No flying. Hide your aura. We'll run on foot, no magic—no trace."

They scattered into the desert under the scorching sun, sprinting across burning sands.

You could feel the temperature climb—or maybe that was something else. Faint at first, then louder: low whispers across the sand, a gentle hum... like the world exhaling a curse.

Yuuki (panting): "They're coming closer… Hurry!"

Laplace (voice shaking): "How—what is that?"

Before them stood four silhouettes with unnatural poise. A chill rolled through their spines.

They skidded to a halt.

Carrera (smirking): "Look what we have—tiny bugs thought they could waltz away?"

Ultima (soft grin): "Lucky day, vermin. You get to see the fruits of our newfound might."

Diablo remained silent, the corner of his lips twitching in a cruel grin.

Testarossa (voice like steel): "You rats dared conspire against Lord Veldora's kingdom…"

Laplace tried to explain, hands trembling.

Laplace: "We—we were hired! Didn't know it was his domain—please!"

Kigali nodded frantically.

Kigali: "Yeah, yeah! We'd never attack willingly—"

Then, without warning, Diablo vanished and reappeared inches from Yuuki.

Diablo (whispering): "Lies reek in your aura."

Yuuki stumbled back in alarm.

Yuuki (Voice trembling): "Who... are you? Identify yourselves."

Diablo unleashed a chilling laugh.

Diablo: "Forgive the delay. I am Diablo. Behold—Testarossa, Ultima, Carrera. We were once Primordials—Noir, Blanc, Jaune, Violet. Named by Veldora. Now: we are Transcendent Demons."

At the weight of their legacy, all five froze. Even the desert seemed to recede. None dared breathe.

Laplace (barely audible): "Trans… transcendent demons? No… we're finished…"

They understood—they had stepped into a nightmare beyond escape.

Yuuki steadied himself, voice shaking but defiant.

Yuuki: "Give us a chance! We can offer value—information, intel. Your kingdom needs allies!"

Laplace and Kigali shot pleading looks—why him?

Kigali (hissing): "Boss, don't—you're asking for death."

But Testarossa's lips curved into a smirk.

Testarossa: "You request mercy?"

Ultima (laughing harshly): "Mercy? For what? You're a bug trying to lodge in the Storm King's bed—uninvited."

Then, suddenly, intense pressure studded their minds. Pain erupted in their souls—teeth clenched, backs arched.

Footman screamed.

Tear gasped.

Laplace clutched his head.

Invisible claws shattered their wills. They convulsed, trying to tear out the agony from inside.

Carrera (coldly delighted): "let the torture begin. Show them true suffering."

Saiki leaned back, eyes gleaming.

Saiki (murmuring): "This is real… raw."

Later—when only coals cracked in the shifting sand—their broken forms were taken by the demons to somewhere and to endure something worse than hell.

Saiki looked to the sky, soft grin on his lips.

Saiki: "Storm Kingdom growing stronger... and I can finally have the peacefull life?."
