The Silent Guardian: A Percy Jackson Fanfiction

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Tacking Care of Annabeth and Meeting New Friends

Narrator's Pov

After the two brainchildren slept, Anthony, being the early bird he is, woke up first. At first, he was confused as to where he was, until yesterday's events play through his mind. Getting up, he looked at his surroundings, noticing the makeshift tent around him.

He was about to stand when he heard soft snoring next to him, he looked over, seeing the girl he had tried to save until she had to save him. Not the brightest idea to cut the spider's abdomen, but it got the job done of slowing it down. It also had the bonus of getting the spider's attention solely on him, making a giant blind spot that he could exploit.

Though, now that he was not in danger of getting skewered, " I could've just gone for its eyes and be done with it and not waste so much energy fighting it" he thought. But his instincts took over and his mind was purely on protecting the blonde girl that was sleeping next to him.

He stared at her for a moment, her face scrunched up in fear, as she was shivering from the cold. Thinking for a moment, he hesitated before scooting over to her, gently sitting her up, before placing himself against the hard brick of the building their tent was next to. Before laying down a blanket he sewed together on his lap.

He laid her down, making his lap a pillow for her, before taking another blanket and covering her shivering form. He then gently combed through her hair, humming a song that his father sang to him as a kid. Her face relaxed, and her shivering stopped, making him smile, a small smile, but a genuine one. He sat there, humming, until he felt the girl stir, he looked down to see her open her eyes.

Annabeth's Pov

I opened my eyes, feeling someone's hand combing through my hair, it stopped, and as I looked up, I see the older boy's face. His dark grey eyes having a small spark, his small smile that looked foreign to his face, but looked genuine. And his long black hair framing his face, shadowing his eyes.

My knee jerk reaction would've been to punch him in the face and then scramble out of the tent, screaming stranger danger. But since he didn't do anything while I slept, other than cover me with a blanket and use his lap as a pillow for myself, I only sat up from my laying position.

He then got up, put the blankets into his bag, before slugging it over his shoulder and leaving the tent. I got my backpack and followed him out, as I got out, I bumped into his back, I yelped. Soothing the pain that was now on my nose, before looking up at him, he stopped right in front of the tents entrance.

He then turned around, looking at me with his stormy dark grey eyes. A spark lit in his eyes; a smile bloomed on his face, he then said, " My name is Anthony Rivers, self-proclaimed trap maker of Athena and your Older Brother," he held his hand out, gesturing for a handshake.

I took his hand in mine and said, " Nice to meet you Ant, the name is Annabeth Chase, self-proclaimed best architect of Athena and your younger sister," I smirked as his eye twitched in slight annoyance. He then smirked, releasing his hand from mine, he then walked to the entrance of the alley.

Waving behind him he said," Are you coming Annie? or does this older brother have to drag his little sister with him?" My eyes twitched in annoyance, and I scrambled after him, plotting my revenge for the nickname.

Narrator's Pov

They began their journey together to camp half-blood, though what they didn't know was that their mother had a plan that would steer them away from camp half-blood for the briefest of moments. So, as Anthony protected, fed, and guided his little sister to the destination that his father tried to get him to before he died.

His mother guided him towards the demigods who would protect and guide him in the darkest of moments. After days of travel, going from bus to bus, walking for hours on end, teaching his sister everything he had learned, and surviving monster after monster.

They reached the state of Connecticut, in a little town called Westport. As they looked around for supplies and food, they stumble across two kids, both of them looking a little bit older than Anthony. They were Collapsed on the ground, looking so banged up that they wondered how the two older kids were still alive.

Anthony, thinking quickly, told Annabeth to carry the female of the unconscious duo. While he would carry the male of the unconscious duo. As they carried the two, he couldn't help but think of how, what, or why, these two came to them in such a condition.

But he won't question what the gods intend to do with him and Annabeth meeting these two. So, with haste, he carefully moved them to a river, he then laid them beside the water, before praying to Poseidon saying, " May my prayer reach you, I plead you, your legacy, that you may grant me the blessing to heal these two in your waters."

His answer was a power washing over him, he then dipped his hands into the water, before pouring it over their wounds. The wounds closed, healed and made new, and if on some kind of signal, they both woke up. They stood up looking around them, then at the two younger kids that looked at them, confused as to how they were suddenly awake.

The two older kids looked at the eye bagged, black hair teen and asked, " Who are you and why are we wet and where are we?" Anthony then said," Um, my name is Anthony Rivers, the blonde girl behind you is Annabeth Chase, your wet because I used my blessing as a legacy of Poseidon to heal you with water, and um, you're in Westpoint, Connecticut,"

The blonde male's eyes darkened, as if bad memories appeared in his mind, he quickly asked, " so you're a son of Poseidon then," Anthony shook his head no, saying," I'm a son of Athena, I'm a descendent of a child of Poseidon." This made them widen in shock, even Annabeth looked surprised.

He never told her anything this, let alone the fact that he's a legacy of Poseidon. Then the questions started going through her head one after the other, though it stopped when the girl spoke up saying," doesn't Athena hate Poseidon and his kin? Don't they have a 2,000-year-old rivalry or something?"

Anthony's dark stormy pools lit up, a smile blooming on his face, he then said," Well, when my dad avoided the curse of having seaweeds for brains, and an interest in marine biology and theories that are famous around the world, he sure got the attention of the goddess of wisdom," he chuckled as Annabeth, stood there slack jawed at the new information.

His smile then thinned as a thought appeared in his mind, he then looked at them with a serious gaze, intimidating stormy dark grey pools looked at them, scaring the two older kids. He then said, " whatever happened to you, whoever is after you, if it doesn't endanger Annabeth, then I can guide you to Camp Half-Blood, all I ask in return is that you protect Annabeth,"

The two older kids looked at each other, the older girl nodding saying," My name is Thalia Grace, and this is Luke Castellan, and we won't let anything happen to her," The relief and burden Anthony felt lifted, just a little bit, His dark grey pools ever so brightening. And the smile that bloomed was the biggest he had ever had in months.

Luke then started leading them to his house, where they would meet his mother, his father Hermes, and the subsequent outburst of Luke. Leading the three to follow after Luke, Anthony apologizing for Luke's outburst before meeting him in the woods, leaning on a tree, knees close to his chest as he cried. Anthony just stood there, on the side where he would ponder on why was it that the gods did this to their children.
