The Silent Guardian: A Percy Jackson Fanfiction

Narrator's Pov

It was a few days since Percy, Thalia, and Grover came back from a mission to retrieve 2 demigod siblings. It was the fact that in that mission, Annabeth was captured and taken hostage by the Manticore, and let's just say, that Anthony was not in a great mood. It took Chiron, Thalia, Percy, and Grover holding him back before he could take off toward a base he knew Luke held prisoners.

He couldn't have his sister's blood on his conscious, So, he waited for the inevitable quest that was surely to come. He bided his time, it didn't help him whatsoever that the Hunter's of Artemis came, making the camp more annoying to deal with. And the Aphrodite cabin unpredictable and mad, making it hard for him to predict their actions.

So, like always, he went to the place he felt truly at peace than anywhere in camp, Thalia's tree. And even though she wasn't in it, she was sitting there, looking at him with mirth in her eyes. She could see the obvious irritation in his eyes, even when he was physically older than her, when he was around her, he acted like the little brother she knew before turning into a tree.

"So," she said, amusement obvious in her voice," What seems to be irritating you Owl Head," Thalia barely keeping her laughter down when she saw his eyes twitching in annoyance.

Anthony then sighed saying," Well if you want to know, the Aphrodite cabin has been a pain in my ass ever since Lady Artemis's Hunters came," Thalia just raised an eyebrow, before Anthony said," Since I train near cabin 8, I'm either in between an argument between both cabins, or Harassed by the children of Aphrodite to prank them with my traps,"

" It's fucking annoying!" Thalia then asked," Did you accept or refuse?" Anthony then looked at her like an idiot before saying," Of course I refused! Most of the Hunters of Artemis have thousands of years of Experience! and the younger Hunters have decades of it, my measly 14 years of trap making would look like a Child's work to them!"

Thalia looked at Anthony before smirking, saying," Now that you have that out of your chest, you should probably run now," Anthony looked confused before turning behind him, face turning pale, as the Aphrodite kids were behind him. He then looked back, a pleading look at Thalia before feeling despair as Thalia just shrugged.

He ran away as fast as he could, hearing screams of," Get him!" And a few," How could you side with the poop sniffers!" That last comment made him pale even more. He needed to find another place to think to himself other than Thalia's tree.

A Few Hours Later…

Anthony found a place where the mob that was Aphrodites kids couldn't find him. He was hiding in a training ground, one that wasn't frequented by its users. What he hoped was that he'd hide from the mob here, then leave before the fore mentioned users find him in their training ground.

Unlucky for him, while running from the mob, the users of the training ground saw him run into their training ground and hide there.

While not angered, they decided to play a prank on the poor lad. So, the Hunters of Artemis walked into their training grounds, noticing Anthony's position, before setting up an archery range near his position. And as they pulled there bows back, readying to fire their bows, Anthony sprang out of his position into a kneeling position in front of them.

He then said," Please forgive me! I ran in here to hide from the Aphrodite kids, and since you guys don't use it that much I thought it'd be fine to hide here!," And while Anthony closed his eyes in a pleasing manor. The Hunters of Artemis just laughed before their newest hunter, and one of the 2 demigods that they received after the mission that Annabeth got captured, then said," Don't worry, it was just a prank on you,"

Anthony just stared at them before saying," Um, aren't Hunters of Artemis Man Haters?" At his question they all looked at each other before shrugging. Before there captain and leader, Zoe Nightshade, began with," Thou is correct, but thy actions and selflessness is admirable, our lady hath said you to not exhibit the qualities most men posses,"

Anthony then sat up and said," Well, since my life isn't in danger, and balls are not getting ripped off, I guess I'll be seeing you guys in the capture the flag game?"

They all nodded before Anthony left, going to his normal training ground, and as usual begins to train to exhaustion. He said he wouldn't do this again, and promised Annabeth that he would take care of himself, but he reverted after Annabeth got captured. 

He hated himself for not going with them when asked, he had an opportunity to be there, but he trusted all of them to handle themselves. It was then that a small boy came into his field of vision, he looked at Anthony with fascination, as he went though his regiment. Anthony then saw a glimpse of Annabeth, her eyes filled with awe when he showed her a new tactic against monsters, and his eyes softened as a small smile appeared on his face. He then called over to the boy, saying," Hey Nico! Don't just stand there, come here, you look like your gonna burst,"

Nico then excitedly rushed up to him, Anthony ruffling his hair as he got closed before saying," Now why would a little kid like want from someone as boring like me?" Nico then frowned. Saying," Your not boring, and I want you to play Mythomagic with me!" Nico said it with a bright smile.

Anthony just looked at him, sill seeing glimpses of Annabeth, before he just chuckled before saying," Why? You know you haven't won against me even once since you got here. What makes today so different?" Nico smiled in response.

He then said," Because this time I'm not the only one who's gonna be challenging you!" and as Nico said that Anthony looked up. Only to see the Hunters of Artemis looking at him with stone cold expressions, while Bianca just sheepishly smiles at him, mouthing a sorry to him.

Anthony began to chuckle, before laughing so hard that tears fell from his face, he could see the peeved expressions of the Hunters at his laughter. But he couldn't help but think that he needed this, a laugh that made him forget the fact that Annabeth was captured, the fact he hated himself more than anything in the whole world. And the fact that he could see himself in Bianca and Annabeth in Nico. So, after laughing his heart out, they played the Mythomagic game, ending in his win.

A Few Days Later...

It was the day of the Capture the flag game and the atmosphere was tense, and as Chiron started the game, the Campers began to execute Anthony's plan. He knew that the chance for them to win against the Hunters of Artemis in their natural habitat was almost zero, but key word was almost, with that in mind he explained his plan to the campers.

Anthony began with the defense of the flag, and said to leave it to the Athena Cabin and him, while he then said the since Aphrodite cabin is out for blood. To make them the diversion team, with the Ares and Hephaestus cabins joining them, while the Hermes cabin is the scouting team. With the Demeter cabin backing them with their powers and plant knowledge, then a small detachment led by Thalia and Percy will go after the flag.

And as they began their plan, the unsuspecting Hunters of Artemis was trapped in a web, and the one making them with utter ease. And as his plan began to bear fruit, Percy was seen being chased by the hunters with the flag, while Zoe could only look back at the flag still on its place. In front of it was Anthony, spear and shield protecting it silently, eyes hardened unconsciously. The look of a seasoned warrior settled on his face, as Zoe looked at his cloudy grey eyes, the once bright warmth they brought when they were playing Mythomagic not there. Only the eyes of a person traumatized and came back alive.

And as Percy passed the line, the silver flag turning blue, and the campers winning against the Hunters of Artemis in millennia. And as the celebrations started, it was interrupted by the oracle appearing before Zoe Nightshade, she stared at the oracle before saying," Six shall go west to the goddess in chains, One shall be lost in a land without rain, The Bane of Olympus shows the trail, Camper and Hunter combined prevail, The Titan's curse one must withstand , And one may perish by a parent's hand," And as everyone looked at the oracle return to mist, a meeting was called.

And as the Heads of all cabins and the Hunters of Artemis held their meeting in the big house, Anthony looked as if something possessed him, and as he stood up and all eyes were on him. He looked at Zoe, with a pleading look, asking to join the quest, stating that both Campers and Hunters are needed on this quest. He anxiously awaited her answer.
