The Sinister Screen Queen

Chapter 22: Trouble's Favorite Daughter

Tanya turned to see a sharply dressed woman in her early 40s, with a poised demeanor and a glimmer in her eyes.

Her jewelry was understated yet looked like old money.

Dressed in a tailored cream-colored coat with a scarf draped loosely around her neck, she exuded a mix of old-world sophistication and confidence.

"Well, well." The woman said with a small, amused smile. "Getting into trouble again, Tanya? Your mother would be thrilled to hear about this."

Tanya stiffened slightly, quickly masking her irritation. "Lady Edith Beckett."

She greeted, her voice carefully neutral. "Always a pleasure."

Lady Edith Beckett, an old friend of Tanya's mother and part of England's aristocratic elite, raised an eyebrow. "You're fortunate the police didn't press further."

"I saw to it that they reconsidered, such a scandal would hardly suit your family's name."

Tanya forced a smile. "Thank you. Truly. But, uh... maybe we keep this little incident between us?"

Edith chuckled lightly. "No promises, dear. It might slip into conversation over tea. You know how your mother loves a good story about your... escapades."

Tanya sighed, resigned. "Of course she does."

Keira looked between them, unsure of what to say, before Edith gestured toward the doors. "Come along, girls."

Edith led them towards the exit. "Come along now. Let's get you both home before you attract more attention."

Edith hailed a sleek black taxi, efficiently organizing their departure.

As they settled into the backseat, Tanya glanced at Edith. "Thank you. I owe you a favour."

Edith tilted her head, her smile faintly mischievous. "I'll remember that, dear."

Keira, still shaken but starting to relax. "Thank you, Lady Beckett."

"Think nothing of it." Edith replied smoothly to Keira.

"You're lucky Tanya here has a charm for squirming out of trouble. She's always been... interesting." Edith stared out the window.

Tanya smiled faintly but stayed quiet, watching the London streets blur past.

As the taxi pulled up to her home, Edith leaned toward her. "Interesting company you keep these days."

"Do try to stay out of trouble or at least keep it entertaining for those of us watching."

"Noted." Tanya replied dryly, exiting the car with Keira.

Your mama really cares too much

The house was quiet as Tanya and Keira slipped inside.

"Hahaha."

Keira finally seemed to unwind, even managing a laugh.

"Can't believe you stood up to that cop." Keira said, grinning.

"I thought for sure we were going to a cell."

Tanya shrugged. "Eh, it's all about confidence."

"Well, thanks for saving my career tonight." Keira said, nudging her playfully.

"You can pay me back by not freaking out next time." Tanya teased.

"Like I would ever go on another adventure with you." Keira shakes her head.

They parted ways, Keira heading upstairs while Tanya made her way to her room.

She shut the door behind her, exhaling deeply as the adrenaline of the evening finally wore off.

Mission complete babe!

"One hundred thirty-five thousand EP in one night?!" She practically shouted, it was like winning the lottery.

You got lucky getting that hidden objective Casey hummed out.

They pay a lot more

Tanya began doing the mental math. She hadn't seen her EP balance but she was now a rich woman.

Pooorr

"…"

Tanya's mind raced with possibilities. "This... this opens up everything!"

"I could invest in high-tier skills. I could unlock rare items. I could—" Her eyes sparkled with an idea.

"I could save for a gold-tier draw! Those rewards are amazing!"

I believe you are overreacting Casey snickered at the childishness.

Tanya sat down and couldn't stop staring at her balance, savoring the numbers like they were a gourmet meal.

"This much EP... It's freedom."

"I could kiss more models like Gemma." Tanya's heart fluttered at the fantasies.

Surprised you know her. I thought you didn't care about models

"I don't." Tanya said defensively.

"But I have a thing for Australian models. Miranda Kerr, anyone?"

Tanya waited for anybody to agree with her.

Unfortunately, only Casey was here, and she wouldn't understand.

"Doesn't matter. What's my reward for Gemma?"

Casey rolled her imaginary eyes. Sure, sure. Let's see what you get for robbing a poor young girl's lips

Casey summoned a spinning wheel of silver cards. Don't get your hopes up. It's random.

Tanya rubbed her thumb for good luck. "Do it."

The wheel spun, a cascade of silver cards flashing.

It went on for way too long but ended too quickly and the screen stopped on a shining silver card.

And unlike before when the card turns and shows what she got.

The silver card comes out of the screen and floats towards Tanya.

"Casey!?" Tanya worries it might be a bomb.

Grab it you baby

Tanya reluctantly opens her palm and the card floats onto it.

Which thankfully doesn't blow off her hand.

Turn it over already, Let's see Casey implores her to do it quickly.

Tanya flips it over, brows furrowing as she reads it.

Mary Poppins

Tanya blinked. "Wait... the Mary Poppins? The actual one?"

Yes, that Poppins. Congratulations Casey replied, deadpan disappointed.

Tanya continued to stare dumbfounded. "You mean I can bring her into the real world? The Mary Poppins I grew up watching?"

Yep Casey getting over its dissatisfaction.

Tanya squinted suspiciously. "And her magic? That works too?"

Casey sighed having hopped for something deadlier. Yes, with her magic intact. She'll appear exactly as you'd imagine

Tanya blinked in disbelief. "You're telling me I can summon a fictional nanny with a flying umbrella and a magic carpetbag?"

Correct Casey answered.

You could, hypothetically, summon her to clean your dirty room or... I don't know, get some life advice

Tanya laughed nervously, staring at the card. "Wow. I was a child when I watched her."

"How does this even work in a modern world?"

You underestimate System Casey!

I can do anything Casey smugly proclaimed her greatness.

Tanya looked at the shimmering card, imagining the chaos or brilliance it could bring.
