The Sole Heir of a Ruined World – Chapter 13

Outbreak in Dobong District Causes Minimal Damage
A powerful hunter was present at the outbreak site.

A lightning-wielding hunter—could this be the rise of a new deity?

After the outbreak in Dobong District, South Korea was abuzz with speculation.

Outbreaks.

The world has witnessed countless outbreaks so far. Some have destroyed cities, while others have led entire nations to be overrun by monsters.

One thing is clear: no place remains untouched when an outbreak occurs.

Even if hunters are dispatched to assist, they often arrive too late. To make matters worse, monsters that emerge during an outbreak are 1.5 times stronger than usual.

Imagine hundreds of such creatures suddenly flooding a city—it’s almost impossible to be fully prepared.

This particular outbreak came from what was considered a mere C-rank gate. The hunters sent in were experienced veterans, averaging B-rank.

Hardly anyone expected them to fail. But expectations were shattered.

The being that emerged from the gate was none other than a legion commander of Baal. A powerful demon, so strong that even an S-rank hunter would struggle to defeat it without risking their life.

At the time, the strongest hunters near Dobong District were no higher than B-rank.

Inside the gate, the hunters were at most F or E-rank. Even if reinforcements arrived, survival seemed impossible.

To make matters worse, the legion commander cast a barrier around the area—one so strong that only an S-rank hunter could hope to break it.

At that moment, none of South Korea’s S-rank hunters were in a position to act immediately.

Those outside the city assumed no survivors would be left.

There was even fear that the commander might extend its attacks to nearby cities, putting the nation’s survival at stake.

But when the situation was finally revealed, the outcome was shocking.

The legion commander had disappeared, and the city’s residents were still alive. Though there were casualties, it was a miracle compared to the complete destruction everyone expected.

The survivors all spoke of one man—a hunter who wielded lightning.

Like a god striking down monsters with bolts of lightning, his actions were described with enthusiasm. Stories of this hunter spread rapidly through online communities, captivating the entire nation.

“Have you heard about the Dobong District incident?”

| Lo0. “I heard Baal’s legion commander appeared, and it caused chaos with disaster response teams rushing in.”

| “They say one hunter killed it. Apparently, Dobong District is safe thanks to a single hunter stepping in.”

| L. “Nonsense. A legion commander? There’s no way one hunter could handle that. Even the Sword Saint would struggle with that.”

| L. “I’m serious! The government even released a statement saying a single hero saved all of Korea!”

The online community was in an uproar.

For those who had only heard stories about the power of a legion commander—hunters included—it was nearly impossible to believe that one hunter defeated such a being.

And for good reason.

In Africa, when a demon king’s avatar appeared, six S-rank hunters from different nations were sent to stop it.

They didn’t even reach the demon king because they were stopped by the legion commander.

In that battle, three of the S-rank hunters were killed.

A legion commander was that strong. Just one of them could threaten an entire nation.

So, it was hard to believe.

If someone could face and even defeat a legion commander, that hunter would undoubtedly surpass S-rank.

| L. “You guys really don’t believe me? Fine, I brought a video to prove it.”

The viewers, who had been loudly denying the possibility, fell silent as they watched the video.

[Krrrrrk!]
The screen showed a horde of monsters surrounding the city’s citizens.

The monsters, already terrifying, had become even stronger due to the outbreak, making even B-rank hunters unsure of their survival.

[Boom! Crackle!]

Suddenly, lightning struck down on the monsters.

Thunder roared like a beast, shaking the heavens and the earth.

The monsters didn’t even have time to scream before they were obliterated by the lightning.

As the camera panned over the charred remains of the monsters, the viewers fell into stunned silence.

| L. “This… is real?”

| Lo0. “Yeah, my friend who was in Dobong District at the time filmed this.”

| L. “That’s insane. Is this guy really human? Controlling lightning like that?”

| L. “Lightning as a weapon? Can you even call him a hunter at this point?”

| L. “Wait, so all that chaos in the sky was caused by one person?”

After the Great Cataclysm, countless people awakened as hunters.

Among them, many could manipulate natural elements like water or fire. But none of them had shown power like this.

The strongest elemental hunter ever recorded was A-rank. Even they couldn’t cause natural disasters.

Lightning, especially, was a power no hunter had mastered before.

And this lightning—so devastating—was beyond comparison.

| L. “That’s basically a god.”

| L. “Honestly, doesn’t this remind you of Thor? Or is it just me?”

| L. “More like Zeus. This is basically divine power.”

Whether they called him Thor or Zeus, the consensus was the same: the hunter in the video was being compared to a god.

| L. “Do you think he’s like Sword Saint?”

| L. “No way. No matter how strong he is, it’s a stretch to compare him to the First Hunter.”

| L. “Are you serious? After watching this video? And he defeated a legion commander. That alone means he’s already surpassed the Sword Saint!”

Some people doubted the legitimacy of the claims, believing it was just a government, who wanted to promote their hunters.

But eventually, the conversation shifted from the hunter defeating the legion commander to simply surviving.

Because the idea of one person killing a legion commander was too much for them to accept.

Yoo Jin-chul smirked as he browsed through the online comments.

“A hunter fabricated to boost national pride… If only that were true,” he muttered.

A hunter capable of wielding lightning.

If someone that powerful was under the government’s command, South Korea’s safety would be assured.

Because this hunter hadn’t just survived the legion commander.

He had defeated it. And when they found him, he didn’t have a scratch on him.

That meant he had overwhelmed the commander with ease.

If they could recruit him, South Korea could easily become the strongest nation in the world.

To some, this might seem like an exaggeration. But Yoo Jin-chul, who had been at the scene, was confident in his assessment.

He remembered standing helpless before the legion commander’s barrier, praying for survival.

And then, the hunter appeared, wielding lightning and turning the tide of battle.

The name “Lee Hank-yul” came to Yoo Jin-chul’s mind as he walked through the government office, lost in thought.

But his steps halted when he heard someone call out to him.

“Minho!”

Kim Min-ho, who had been absorbed in his phone, looked up at Yoo Jin-chul and smiled.

“Hyung! What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be at the testing grounds right now?”

“I had something to check on. What about you? Shouldn’t you be busy with your assignments?”

“I heard there was an outbreak, but I haven’t had the chance to catch up on the details.”

Hearing this, Yoo Jin-chul sighed and explained.

“There was an outbreak in Dobong District. A legion commander appeared.”

Kim Min-ho froze in shock.

“Baal’s Third Legion Commander,” Yoo Jin-chul clarified.

“You’re joking, right?”

“Do I ever joke about things like this?”

“No… you don’t.”

Kim Min-ho’s expression grew serious.

He knew what a legion commander was capable of.

“We need to call for reinforcements! The Sword Saint, and maybe even foreign hunters—”

“It’s over,” Yoo Jin-chul interrupted. “The legion commander is gone, and the outbreak has been resolved.”

Kim Min-ho was skeptical.

“Was there an S-rank hunter involved?”

“Maybe,” Yoo Jin-chul replied unclearly.

In truth, the hunter who had defeated the legion commander seemed far beyond S-rank.

Again!

Lee Hank-yul looked at the residents running in front of him.

When Thor was summoned, all the existing villagers, farmers, and warriors died.

I guess I should say that it’s fortunate.

The loot from this outbreak more than made up for the losses.

The number of newly summoned residents was six, and two warriors and two farmers entered Asgard.

Even though he summoned so many residents, Lee Hank-yul’s magical power was still great.

“Magic Power: 2,322”
Only warriors or farmers can summon 4 people.

Lee Hank-yul quietly watched the villagers running around the meadow.

The new residents looked exactly like the existing residents, and although they had more benefits, I wasn’t very happy
about it.

Lee Hank-yul moved with a sigh and went to inspect the remaining loot.

“‘Crimson Magic Stone x121”
“Yellow Magic Stone x218”
“Black Magic Stone x1”
“Broken Legion Commander’ s Armor Fragments x7”
“Legion Commander’s Core x1”
“A greatsword soaked in blood.”

He got quite a lot of rewards.

If he just turns all the magic stones into magical power, you will be able to achieve tremendous growth.

The problem was that there was a set amount of time it took to grow.

We can expand the land further. We can fill the grasslands with warriors and farmers.’

Lee Hank-yul thought about it and then looked at the spoils of war that the commander had brought out.

Lee Hank-yul let out a hollow laugh after looking at their explanations.

“… This is crazy.”
If they were all released into the world, they would be looted of such incredible power that everyone would be greedy for them.
