The son of the God-Emperor in Warhammer Fantasy

Chapter 597: Chapter 596: Becoming a Father!

"Aw~ Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry~" The Lady of the Lake knew that Angron's fierce appearance had scared the child. She quickly pulled the baby back and said a bit reproachfully, "Don't get so close; you're scaring the child!"

"…Brat!" Angron, who had never suffered such humiliation, could only retreat a few steps, wiping his face and finding it smeared.

"Hahaha! Angron, wipe your face!" Fugen struggled to hold back his laughter, his face twisted in an effort to contain it, as he handed Angron a towel. "I think you need this!"

"~!@#%^&*" Angron wiped his face with the towel and muttered, "Not bad."

"Not bad?" Fugen was puzzled.

"He's just a baby, but he's already peeing so much. Looks like we don't have to worry about him," Angron said, finally laughing, "Just like his dad!"

"Brother, you're mocking me!" Ryan couldn't help but laugh as he looked at his son, feeling deeply emotional.

Seeing the wrinkled face of the newborn, Ryan thought it was normal for newborns to look this way and needed some time to grow plump and healthy.

The baby, seemingly unaware of the commotion he had caused, cried for a while and then gradually calmed down in the Lady of the Lake's arms, opening his big blue eyes as if to take in the world.

"So cute!"

"Wow, so small, and looks just like Lady Sulia!"

"But his nose looks like Ryan's!"

"Wow, he's recognizing people, look, he's looking at us!"

"Hey, come over, let Auntie hold you!"

The little guy was immediately surrounded by women, witches and sorceresses crowding around to admire him, their faces filled with admiration and affection. Even Veronica reached out to touch the baby's cheek, and he looked at her curiously without crying.

"He's so cute, Master!" Even the Dark Elf couldn't resist; she leaned in to look at Ryan's son, rarely smiling in public. "Just as interesting as you, Master!"

"…" Ryan thought, what kind of description is that?

Seeing his son being passed around like a toy among the women, Ryan felt strange. Just as he was about to say something, the little guy opened his mouth and called out, "Daddy!"

"?!"

Everyone turned their attention to Ryan.

This baby could speak right after being born?

"Daddy! I want daddy!" The little guy, held by Teresa, cried out again.

"Oh, oh, oh! Daddy's here! Daddy's here!" Ryan, overwhelmed with emotion, quickly took the swaddled baby from Teresa, feeling like he was holding the most precious thing in the world. "Daddy's here, daddy's here!"

"Daddy~" The baby called out happily, reaching out to touch Ryan's face.

"This child is extraordinary; he can talk right after being born!" Francois, also delighted by the child's birth, came over, pulling out gold coins to reward the Lake God prophets and the two old women. "This is truly a blessing for our Duke family! Rewards! Rewards!"

The two old women, each receiving more than twenty gold coins, were overjoyed, having never seen so much money.

"He's a healthy child." Fugen smiled as he approached, hanging an obsidian necklace around the baby's neck. "This is a gift from your uncle; may you grow strong and healthy!"

Since the name "Devonshire" had already been decided, there was no need for further discussion. Ryan, holding his son, seemed like a foolishly happy father, spinning around in joy.

But the baby, seemingly tired of being passed around, started crying loudly, prompting Ryan to quickly stop. "Alright, alright, no more spinning. Come, son, let's go see mommy!"

"Mommy!" The baby seemed to understand the word, stopped crying, and looked around the room, pointing at the Lady of the Lake. "Mommy! I want mommy!"

"WTF?!" Ryan's expression changed.

Something was off!

The Lady of the Lake, also surprised, quickly hurried to Ryan's side, seeming to realize something. She hastily took the baby into her arms. "Mommy's here!"

"Mommy~" The baby called out again, reaching for the Lady of the Lake.

The Lady of the Lake, now beaming, gently kissed the baby on the cheek. She happily cradled him against her chest. "Say mommy again?"

"Mommy~" The baby obliged.

What was going on?! Ryan's face turned green.

Why was his and Sulia's child calling the Lady of the Lake "mommy"?

Something wasn't right!

Francois, even more perplexed, was stuck with a burning question.

This was Ryan and Sulia's child, so he should be my grandson.

But the child was calling you mommy.

What should I call you?

Francois felt overwhelmed, needing time to process.

"No, no!" Ryan, worried, snatched his son from the Lady of the Lake and hurried towards the tower. "This isn't right! How did things turn out like this?!"

"Ah! My champion, what are you doing?" The Lady of the Lake felt as if she'd lost something precious and quickly followed.

Everyone else rushed after them, though Fugen stopped Angron, saying, "We should stay outside."

Rushing into the birthing room, Sulia seemed neither weak nor tired, comfortably chatting with the maid Sylvia. Morgiana, making tea on the side, was puzzled by Ryan's hasty entrance with the baby. "Ryan, is there something wrong with the child?"

"My son, my dear son, Devonshire, tell me, who is this?" Ryan, sweating, pointed the baby towards Sulia, prompting him to look.

"Mommy!" The baby, excited to see Sulia, called out.

"And this person?" Ryan, relieved, pointed to the Lady of the Lake.

"Mommy!"

"???" Ryan's expression turned odd. He quickly had the baby look at Teresa. "And this lady?"

"Auntie!"

Teresa frowned but accepted it.

Now, everyone began to sense something was wrong. Ryan had the baby identify all the women present.

Devonshire recognized only the Lady of the Lake and Sulia as "mommy," calling everyone else "auntie."

"No, this isn't mommy; this is auntie. Say, a-u-n-t, auntie~" Ryan, flustered, pointed to the Lady of the Lake. "Auntie!"

"Mommy!" The baby insisted.

"Auntie!" Ryan's frustration grew.

"Mommy!" The baby remained firm.

"Auntie!" Ryan's tone hardened.

The baby burst into tears, his loud wailing filling the room, startling everyone with a noise that seemed to have a magical resonance.

"Ryan~ there's nothing wrong!" Sulia chided, signaling Ryan to hand over the baby. "The child recognizing the Lady as 'mommy' is something to be happy about, why are you so harsh? Give me the baby!"

"But, I just feel…" Ryan, looking pained, hesitated but handed the baby to Sulia.

Remarkably, Devonshire immediately stopped crying when handed to Sulia, quickly falling asleep after being fed.

To allow Sulia to rest, Teresa and Veronica left after paying their respects, leaving only the Lady of the Lake, Sulia, Sylvia, Morgiana, and Ryan in the room. The Dark Elf stood behind Ryan, watching the sleeping baby with heart-shaped eyes. "So cute!"

"Yes, such a good child!" The Lady of the Lake, cradling the baby, looked at him with great joy. "So clever! It's settled; I'm also your mommy! Good boy~"

"Lady, did you do something to our child? Otherwise, why would he recognize you as mommy?" Ryan, feeling conflicted, suspected the Lady of the Lake might have tampered with the baby.

"I didn't, I didn't. Don't say such things," the Lady of the Lake denied, looking smug. "This was your son's decision, not mine! Can't you tell if I had done something?"

Ryan nodded reluctantly, admitting the Lady of the Lake seemed to have not tampered with the baby, who instinctively saw her as his mother.

So where did things go wrong?

"Morgiana, please entertain the guests outside," the Lady of the Lake ordered, holding the baby. "And Sylvia, please."

"Yes, my lady!" Morgiana, reluctantly looking at the baby, approached the Lady of the Lake. The Lake Witch kissed the baby's cheek, then left with Sylvia.

"Sulia, thank you for your hard work." Ryan, unable to fathom the situation, turned his attention to his wife, taking her hand gratefully. "This is our child."

"Ryan, my husband," the knightess, equally happy, gently said, "Don't worry about the child calling her mother. I don't mind; why should you?"

"But…" Ryan trailed off.

"You heard that, my champion. Your wife doesn't mind, so why are you still concerned?" The Lady of the Lake squeezed between them, still holding the baby. She then began reciting in Elvish, placing a white finger on Devonshire's forehead.

"Child, when you were born, the entire Shalon Forest whispered your name—Devonshire!"

"We will…"

"Wait!" Ryan's face turned even grimmer as he interrupted, "Can you change the words? My lady? I don't like this; it's too ominous."

"Devonshire, you are a proud star, the hope of the world. The wheels of history turn again, a new era begins, the end times draw near, and the Chaos God's chosen one has appeared. We

face the most terrible war. In the name of Arthur, may the gods bless you!" The Lady of the Lake, puzzled by Ryan's agitation, complied.

As the Lady of the Lake blessed him, a golden chalice mark appeared on Devonshire's forehead, then faded.

"The Lady and I will raise this child together." The Lady of the Lake, after casting a major spell, seemed tired and said, "If I did anything, it was just now. I'm completely open with you, Ryan, so please don't always look at me with suspicion."

"Mm." Ryan thought to himself, isn't it because you're always up to something without consulting me, making me suspicious of your intentions?

"Ryan~" Sulia laughed gently, leaning on Ryan's shoulder. "Thank you, I'm very happy."

"I am too, my lady," Ryan, warming to the baby, spoke softly. "Rest well; I'll take care of everything outside."

"Yes, this is a family of four!" Sulia, satisfied with the situation, reached out. "The Lady, you, me, and Devonshire—we can overcome any challenge together!"

"Did you hear that, Ryan?" The Lady of the Lake placed her hand on top of Sulia's. "This is Sulia's wish!"

"I understand," Ryan smiled bitterly, having no reason to resist.

After a few more words, Ryan and the Lady of the Lake left the room to let Sulia rest, though she seemed not very tired.

"When do you plan to visit the Empire?" The Lady of the Lake asked, holding the baby.

"Sometime in January next year. I plan to visit the Empire with Sulia, Devonshire, and Olica to strengthen our relationship," Ryan replied with a nod. "Bringing my firstborn has significant meaning."

"Good, I'll go with you then!"
