As I came back from training and opened the door, I found my mum waiting for me with a face that clearly meant, "You're in trouble." Damn, I hate that look.
"Where were you?" asked my mum.
"Oh I was hanging out with Shinso you know" I answered, hoping to end the conversation quickly.
"Oh really?" she said, raising an eyebrow suspiciously. I nodded, trying to look casual.
"You know, this afternoon Shinso's mum called me and told me he hasn't been going out with you for the past few months" she said in a tone like she just checkmated me.
If she already knew, why bother asking me?
"Hiro, you need to make some friends. You can't keep distancing yourself from people all the time. Ever since you were a kid, you've been… how can I say it… a little antisocial? You need to put effort into your relationships, not just stay alone all the time training your body and your quirk. There's more to life than just strength and training" she said, looking genuinely concerned.
Me? Antisocial? Come on, I'm popular at school. I'm friends with Shinso and…
Damn. Only Shinso.
She's right. I'm too self-centered. I need to ease up a little.
"Okay Mum. I'll put some effort in" I said with a resigned tone.
"Good. Now go and change. You've got a dinner with your class tonight" she said firmly.
"But—"
Before I could even finish my sentence, Mum shot me a deadly glare. The same glare that once tamed Dad.
"Okay okay you win" I said in defeat and headed upstairs to shower.
"Even when you will become a hero, your mother will shut you up with a glare" I heard Dad laughing his ass off from the kitchen—until Mum shut him up with a look.
"Sacred words" I muttered.
After I showered, I had a small fight with Mum and eventually let her dress me the way she wanted.
What's the problem with always wearing hoodies and baggy clothes? I see none.
After that, she drove me to the dreaded dinner. As I was getting out of the car, she looked me straight in the eyes and said
"Hiro, be sure to remember our talk"
"Okay okay. Bye" I replied, stepping out and walking into the restaurant.
As I entered, I saw Shinso waiting for me. When I came closer, he started smirking and said in a mocking tone
"Oh oh — look who finally showed up"
"Shut up, you don't know what I had to get through" I answered.
"Looking at you and knowing that you only dress in comfortable clothes, I understand your mother worked a miracle" he said while laughing.
"Yes yes whatever. How many people are there?" I asked, heading to our table.
"Oh everyone. Even those who usually don't come showed up today" said my friendo.
I raised an eyebrow, suspicious.
"Yes, and don't use that expression. They decided to come only when they knew you were coming" he said in a disgusted tone.
I approached the table full of people with a smug smile on my face.
Hehehe.
See Mum? I am popular.
