Chapter 76: CHAPTER 76
c76: Alliance Celebration
One clear September morning, Leng Yue finally welcomed her 16th birthday.
Chen Xiaoxiao accompanied her to the Beijing Pokémon Center, now a major regional hub affiliated with the International Pokémon Federation, to apply for her official Trainer Qualification and undergo the Trainer Rank Assessment, a standard practice adapted from the Indigo League evaluation system in Kanto.
Her final result came back as Intermediate Level, with a score bordering on Advanced, effectively placing her in the quasi-Elite category—comparable to trainers like Blue before his official rise in the Pokémon Adventures manga.
Though slightly below Chen Xiaoxiao's ranking who already achieved full Advanced Trainer status the result was still commendable.
At just 16 years old, Leng Yue commanded five powerful Pokémon, all hovering around quasi-Elite level: Lapras, Alolan Ninetales, Vanilluxe, the unique regional form of Glalie dubbed "Ice Pokémon" in the registry, and a rare Makura, a mutation of the Sinnoh-native Froslass with a spectral ice typing linked to Distortion World energy traces.
Her birthday celebration that evening was modest a few private tables arranged at home rather than a grand banquet hall.
Only close family members and a few intimate friends of the Leng household were in attendance, yet the atmosphere was lively and full of warmth.
Chen Xiaoxiao, ever thoughtful, had prepared a beautiful, personally hand-crafted gift for Leng Yue though what mattered more than the contents was the joy that sparkled in Leng Yue's eyes when she received it.
---
A month later.
It was now the first of October Alliance Celebration Day.
All major Pokémon Academies and Universities had entered a scheduled week-long holiday, akin to the Pokémon Trainer Week observed in the Unova region.
Curious about what "October 1st" means in this alternate historical timeline of the Pokémon World?
Haha let me explain!
In a past life, this day marked a national celebration in China.
But in this timeline, it has evolved into a worldwide holiday recognized by all Pokémon Leagues!
Why? Because this day commemorates the founding of the Global Pokémon Alliance, a milestone achieved decades ago, shortly after the events surrounding Team Galactic's downfall and the unification of inter-regional League policies.
So today, it's called: Alliance Celebration!
Chen Xiaoxiao had taken leave from her dormitory at Beijing Pokémon University, choosing instead to spend the holiday week living with Leng Yue.
Well… location didn't matter much.
After all, it was still the same person she fell asleep beside each night.
Drip, drop, drop, drop!
The repetitive alarm tone echoed in the room, rousing both girls from their slumber.
"Get up! It's eight already!"
Leng Yue groggily reached out to silence the alarm, then nudged Chen Xiaoxiao beside her.
"Let's sleep a little more," she muttered sleepily.
But Chen Xiaoxiao simply rolled over, stretched her arms, and pulled Leng Yue into a warm embrace.
In accordance with the national Alliance policy, Chen Xiaoxiao had granted herself and her Pokémon team a full week off. Even Zoroark and Togekiss, usually busy with morning drills, were now on break.
No early training sessions!
Ah yes, a shining model of modern patriotism true youth of the Pokémon Century, and a worthy successor to the dreams of trainers like Red and Platinum Berlitz.
"Get up!" Leng Yue protested again, cheeks flushed in the warmth of the moment. "It's Alliance Celebration Day! The city is so lively today! Come on, let's go for a walk!"
Despite being nestled in Chen Xiaoxiao's arms, her voice was filled with excitement as she playfully pushed her partner awake.
"Nooo, I've been hit by Imprison! It's too powerful! I need Xiao Yueyue's kiss to break the seal!"
Chen Xiaoxiao shamelessly played the rogue, pretending to struggle under a fictional Psychic-type move.
"Pfft! Get up, you scoundrel!"
Leng Yue couldn't hold back her laughter at Chen Xiaoxiao's antics, breaking free from her embrace before delivering a sharp slap.
Smack!
"Oww! Fine, I'm getting up! But why the violence? That really hurt!"
Chen Xiaoxiao rubbed her cheek, pouting with exaggerated drama, eyes gleaming with mischief.
Reality had already taught Leng Yue one important lesson: it's not easy to shake off a rascal once she starts acting shameless.
Ten minutes later, Chen Xiaoxiao finally got out of bed, looking smug and utterly satisfied.
As for what transpired in those ten minutes?
Well, we don't know the full details only that Leng Yue's face was so red, it looked like her blush could evolve into a Fire-type attack.
After washing up and changing into fresh clothes, the two made their way downstairs.
Aunt Qin had already prepared a hearty breakfast. Since it was Alliance Celebration Day, even Leng Xin was home from his duties at the Huaxia Pokémon Bureau.
He'd recently learned that Chen Xiaoxiao had spent a lot of time in the Huaxia Pokémon Headquarters' library cross-referencing data from Professor Oak's research with materials from Cynthia's Sinnoh archeological reports.
Not only did she show excellent combat potential for her age, but also a rare ability to sit still and study deeply calm, diligent, and humble.
Leng Xin was clearly impressed.
After breakfast, Chen Xiaoxiao and Leng Yue stepped outside.
It was Alliance Celebration Day, and the capital was bustling with people. Many had taken the week-long vacation to visit, and the streets of Beijing were packed.
Strolling casually, they eventually found themselves at Temple of Heaven Park, one of the celebration's key venues this year.
There, local students and residents had set up creative stalls to raise funds or help their families regulated by event organizers, with strict bans on counterfeit Poké Balls, black-market TMs, and other contraband.
Amid the colorful atmosphere, both girls felt their excitement building.
"Xiaoxiao, look! Over there Pokémon made from plasticine! Let's go check it out!"
Leng Yue eagerly dragged her partner toward a nearby booth.
On the table were meticulously crafted plasticine figures: Eevee, Pikachu, Togepi, and other fan-favorite Pokémon from across the regions, even a mini Shaymin in Sky Forme.
"They really nailed the details," Leng Yue commented, marveling at a miniature Glaceon.
"Need a custom figure? I can make one for you on the spot!"
The stall owner, a cheerful young man barely out of his teens, smiled as the girls approached.
"Hmm… I'll take this Eevee," Leng Yue decided, picking up the figure before glancing at Chen Xiaoxiao expectantly.
Chen Xiaoxiao, understanding the cue, promptly pulled out 10 yuan and paid. Well worth the price to see Leng Yue smile.
From there, they wandered deeper into the park.
---
Inside the park's central square, they noticed many uniformed event staff setting up something large.
"Hey, what's going on over there?" Leng Yue asked, curious.
"Probably an event of some sort," Chen Xiaoxiao guessed.
Just then, a friendly staff member walked over and handed them a brightly colored leaflet.
"Hey there, Trainers! Happy Alliance Celebration! We're with the Penguin Group, and we're hosting a Pokémon Doubles Tournament here today. Only the top 48 pairs will be accepted—96 Trainers total. Huge prizes on the line! You can register back there if you're interested!"
He gestured to a large booth at the rear before moving on to distribute more flyers.
Penguin Group, huh? You're even in Pokémon events now.
"It's a doubles battle! Xiaoxiao, let's join! There's prize money involved!"
Leng Yue's eyes sparkled with excitement.
"Absolutely! I haven't entered a single tournament since arriving in this world—I'm itching for some battle action."
"Yes! The championship is ours!" Leng Yue declared, flipping the flyer open. "Let's see how much the grand prize is!"
Curious, Chen Xiaoxiao leaned in against her, eyes scanning the text over Leng Yue's shoulder.
But then, two boys who had been eyeing them from nearby stepped closer after overhearing.
"Ha! You two beauties aiming for the championship?" one laughed. "Are you even from the capital? Don't get ahead of yourselves this city's crawling with talent."
The other chuckled as well.
Chen Xiaoxiao and Leng Yue, unbothered, continued reading the flyer like they hadn't heard a word classic 'Normal-type reaction.'
Embarrassed by the lack of response, the boys tried again.
"We're third-years at Huaqing University. I'm Zhang San, and this is Li Si," the first one added with a grin. "We're ranked top 20 among Huaqing's battlers. We're joining the tournament too, but teaming up together would be overkill. What do you say? Let's split up you each team with one of us. That way we can grab the championship and the runner-up spot!"
Zhang San made the offer without an ounce of shame.
